  1. That's a valuable piece when they are competitive in 2 years. A veteran backup that can play good defense everywhere in the OF.
  2. He's waiting to squeeze every penny from the team that signs him. Odds are any team spending 35 or so million per year aren't going to be making too many more moves, in FA anyway.
  3. Not just for 2019 but a good cheap 4th OF that is really good defensively and decent with the bat going forward.
  4. Personally, I would sacrifice the offense for the defense in CF. Happ is adequate in CF but I was impressed with Almora.
  5. The career OPS of 574 vs. 738 might make it look a little more significant. Plus if you do like WAR look at it this way, Almora had 3X the WAR in 2018 than Engel.
  6. To be fair Almora had 1.7 WAR (from baseball reference) in 480 PA while Adam Engel had a .6 in 463. So I would say Almora is a significant upgrade over Engel, position for position.
  7. What? The Sox have never spent over 100 million, haven't developed players in 15 years and have a FO/manager who dont know how to win. The is very little hope that anything will happen to make the Sox competitive. The past will always dictate the future, its preordained. ?
  8. Then he probably won't sign here. Do you sign him if he insists on playing SS?
  9. Yes they can. However, most are owned by larger groups and it gets trickier to run a business in the red.
  10. I don't think you'll hear him say that. If the Sox sign Machado, I think you'll see Anderson in CF.
  11. Agreed. But at the same if you compared the overall player, offensive and defense, I think there is little doubt Machado is better because the difference in the offense isn't that great compared to the difference in defense. Machado had an OPS of 905 last year, Harper 889. Harper has a career 900, Machado 822. So i don't think it's a question of offense vs. defense, it's more of a difference in star power and offense vs. overall player. They can't go wrong with either player. They are both massive upgrades for the Sox.
  12. I think it's mostly due to the overall game and WAR. WAR will include defense so that's where Machado has the advantage. If they both sign 10 year deals, that puts them at 36. Machado's defense shouldn't slip that much by then, especially if he eventually moves to 3B.
  13. Not a good idea not to tell him. However, if it's not an important area as I described above, it's not that big of a deal. He just couldn't play with the pain it caused. It's kind of like having a fractured rib. you can play with them as long as it isn't in certain areas.
  14. He has a fracture in one of his vertebrae. It isn't necessarily a big deal unless it's near the spinal cord or near one of the tips where the muscles attach. If it's where one of the muscles attach it can just hurt when he moves especially in rotation. They aren't weight bearing bones so there isn't a great deal of stress there.
  15. They did say that the one year deal would be between 40-50 million, so the agent might show some restraint for that payday. Plus he would be a free agent again in a year that doesn't have Harper involved. But again, still too weird.
  16. I think it's too weird as well. Just throwing it out there from the report.
  17. I was at that game that was suspended in 1984. Skipped school the second day to watch it finish.
  18. I would think most want to go to a team that will win. I don't know how many teams will consistently win over the 10 years of his contract. Why not look at a team that looks like it will have a good run starting in a year or two.
