  1. That's why he gats paid the big bucks. It is taking a calculated chance but going on his injury history, a fair bet. It all depends on the current offers.
  2. Agreed. If there isn't an acceptable package now. Roll the dice at the trade deadline.
  3. Woah! Is someone saying Hahn made not just a good but possibly great trade?
  4. OK. Nice research. This is drastically different then the discussions everyone had prior to the season. Most of the people on the board had figured that they were roughly19 million from the luxury tax. I still disagree that Chapman would have 1. Agreed to sign with the Sox because of the better opportunity in KC as he wasn't going to be the 3rd option in the pen. 2. That he would have made any appriciable difference. As Graveman was the primary closer and Chapman would have been relegated to lesser use even than he was in KC as Graveman was fairly successful.
  5. I think most of us have agreed with this. What we are saying is right now he should be asking for too much and see if a team goes for it. He doesn't need to be in a rush to trade RIGHT NOW. Why lower the ask now? You could say because teams aren't offering what he wants. The counter is he is still working on getting the best package. If it doesn't happen now, it may at the trade deadline.
  6. I hate to tell you this but nothing is 100% true all of the time. You said you doubt it, I said it may. I think the odds are better that it will, hence when you said you doubt it, I disagreed.
  7. I disagree. It goes back to the negotiations discussion. You are negating the fact that when teams feel they are close they get desperate. This is more likely to happen at the trade deadline because the team may be tied with two other and want to get him to win but also to keep a competitor from getting him. The value of a player is not solely based on him and his performance. The market makes the value. The trade deadline may be a different market.
  8. It will be interesting how the decreased time between pitches changes it. Pitchers can no longer throw with max effort, wait a minute to recover and repeat the process. Hopefully we start to see more pitching and less throwing and the starts will last longer. I think it will take time for that to happen though.
  9. Your number are from the end of 2023 after they traded some of the high salaried pitchers.Thats when they determined the tax. They didn't have that much before the season. A better look is probably the end of 2022 when it was about 14 million. Although even that isn't probably quite accurate. He drops below graveman with the Sox. His better opportunity was there.
  10. Yes they were when you consider they aren't going to go over and at the beginning of the season the plan was to compete last year. If they go right up to it because before the season they have no flexibility to acquire anyone. Acquiring a marginally better if at all pitcher prior to the season starting just wasn't worth it. Where does Chapman fit if Hendriks returns?
  11. He had a better opportunity to close there than with graveman here. As far as Lambert getting a save, other pitchers beside the primary closer will always have a few opportunities. They can't pitch everyday. Between the Sox near the luxury tax, the players on the roster and who was available signing another player just wasn't really an option.
  12. Because he wasn't going to sign to not be the at least the one of the primary closers. So you need to compare him to graveman not the weakest link in the bullpen.
  13. Don't think so. He wasn't much better than graveman.
  14. We all know that due to advanced metrics the only thing most people are pushing is velocity for avoiding g contact. That is the best way to get outs, shred pitchers arms and decrease the length of any outing. I hope the Sox are attempting to change that trend. Hitters don't hit they swing for the fences as that's been shown to produce more runs and decrease the fun of the game.
  15. I meant capital in general. His even 15 mil, is cheaper than the prospect capital it would take to acquire Cease value wise.
  16. They aren't counting on him to lead the staff. He pitched better than Cease last year. Not that I expect that this year but he will be far cheaper.
  17. He is actually a decent option if he pitches like he did last year. Not the quality of Cease but much more affordable.
  18. Not sure if that would be an upgrade based on what we've seen.
  19. Chapman would not have been much of an upgrade if at all.
  20. The options are dwindling. Especially the affordable ones.
  21. Agreed. He will not handle the NY media work fans well.
  22. Looks like Getz will need to settle for a couple of hiiters from Baltimore or take a chance at the trade deadline. It will be interesting to see how he plays this.
  23. Which is why nothing has been done yet and won't be for awhile. If he can't get what he wants, he will wait for the best package.
  24. It will suck for Orioles fans if they don't get some type of significant upgrade in pitching. They are really close to that WS.
  25. I know. But that's also why nothing has been done yet. All apart of the negotiations. It's a big mistake not to get pitching but if no one offers it, he can't get it.
