QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 07:58 AM) If that was it, Travis Hafner and Paul Konerko should have been battling it out of the award instead of two guys who had 8 figure salary hitters protecting them. Hafner and Konerko were way more important to the Sox and Indians success than ARod and Ortiz were to the Red Sox success. Those two are west of the Hudson. They don't count.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) Sounds like they are trying a new tactic with Carrie, rip job motivation through the media. That probably signals the beginning of the end for Wood on the northside.

You also have to give Hendry credit for the Todd Hundley to LAD deal. That worked out well. Still, if he would have pulled off what KW did, he'd have a statue by now.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) I stand by lot G at $8 an hour and a half before game time. Maybe that will be $9 now. That's the way to go. Lot G early and a little hike over to Jimbo's. -
This line of discussion needs to end immediately. All parties involved, stop now.

QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) I would cry from misery if I ever saw that lineup in Chicago. It would produce less runs than the lineup last year, and would basically just suck in general. Damon will not be coming to Chicago. He is a defensive bum with one of the worst arms in the league, which is the opposite of what this team is based around. Not the south side of Chicago.

If Rowand is playing too deep in CF that's the fault of Ozzie and the coaching staff (Harold, specifically, iirc). They should position the outfielders where they want them to play.

People talking about trading this guy or that guy are talking in speculative scenarios. I don't think anybody has said we need to back up the truck.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 06:37 PM) You jest but if there was a Ms White America pageant the liberals and Jesse Jackson would be all up in arms over it. Or White Entertainment Television network Or a National Association for the Advancement of White People.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) Bonds 101: A company issues a bond to raise cash. The bond is a debt service. A promise to pay a rate of return when the maturity rate is reached on each level of the bond. That rate of return is determined by the colladeral backing the bond. Obviously the higher the rate of return the greater the appeal of the bond. The previous bonds for New Comiskey park were backed by new taxes & tax revenues. This new bond is backed by a reduction in expenditures for the ISFA. Originally the White Sox did attempt to raise the money themselves. But the best they could get on the basis of their own & US Cellular's credit rating was $30M. This would not cover the cost of the renovations. So the ISFA stepped in & issued a new bond that raised $42.5M. That more than covered the cost of renovations. No new taxes or sources of tax revenue were used to secure that bond. The promise to pay the rate of return on those bonds as they mature has been backed primarily from the reduction in expenditures for the ISFA by eliminating the fee to the White Sox for park maintenance. The only risk that is involved is if the White Sox should become insolvent & the ISFA can not find a new tenant that would continue to absorb that cost. I do not believe the ISFA will issue yet another bond for any future renovations such as RF porch. With the franchise value of the White Sox now pegged at $300M the credit rating of the team has greatly improved. They should be able to raise the funds themselves. I feel properly schooled now.

Since some of you have taken the plunge, I'm going to wait for ... ummm ... reviews. Let us know how good this thing is.

QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Personally I think he'll end up back here. The player wants it to happen, the owner wants it to happen. The GM and manager are smart enough to know FT can significantly contribute, if healthy. I think so, too. But, just knowing the Twins are interested kinda sucks.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) Be careful what you wish for, you might get it. I personally miss the days when the White Sox were our little secret. 16,000 is the ideal attendance. You could go to a game on whim, show up 15 minutes before first pitch, park within 100 yards and buy great seats at the gate. You could get from your seat to the can and back between innings. You could pick up your brat / polish / kosher on the way and still not miss a pitch. You could keep your coat and stuff in an empty seat. You could tell the beer vendor what inning you want him to come back. If somebody blocked your view, or was just obnoxious, you could just slide down the row. Life was good, life was good… Ah, the good days. Back when we weren't world champs. -
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 04:02 AM) So because Jeremy Reed ended up being a bust with no power whatsoever, Brian Anderson will do the same? Reed was a highly touted prospect but there's probably a reason Kenny decided he was worth giving up for Freddy Garcia. Maybe Kenny saw more upside in Anderson than Reed. Just because Reed was a bust doesn't mean Anderson will be. Just as easily as you can say Anderson will perform like Reed, I could say Anderson will perform more like Jonny Gomes or Nick Swisher. No, I'm not saying that at all. I'm giving you aomething to put some perspective into this discussion. Guys that come up from AAA and just rake during their rookie years are rare. I'm also not saying that Anderson doesn't have a higher ceiling than Rowand. I'm talking about 2006. I've been watching this game for a long time and I've too many "can't miss" rookies "miss" terribly. The odds of Anderson matching Rowand's 2005 numbers in 2006 are slim.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) Here's an interesting article on replacing Konerko if he does leave: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...ack=1&cset=true The following excerpt is for all of you guys who think the payroll is just going to jump to the $90-$95 million range. That quote fails to take into consideration that JR has consistently put profits into payroll for the next season, regardless of how much it jumped the previous year or two.

To all you guys that think Anderson would step in and put up similar numbers to Rowand, let's take a look at something. I'm shocked noone has made this point yet. Jeremy Reed was the next coming superstar before he was included in the Garcia deal. He had a half season of ML experience in 2004 after being shipped to M's. So, how did his 2005 numbers compare to Rowand? Reed - .254 3HR 45RBI .322OBP .352SLG .674OPS ARow - .270 13HR 69RBI .329OBP .407SLG .736OPS Reed came in below Rowand in every catagory. He was much more ballyhooed as a prospec than Anderson is now. Reed had a half season experience under his belt as well, so he knew what to expect more than Anderson will. I say it's very very possible that Anderson's numbers come in under Jeremy Reed's if he's given CF next year. In fact, Rowand has a better chance of achieving Rowand's 2004 numbers than Anderson has at achieving Rowand's 2005 numbers.

You guys need to take off the silver and black glasses. If the Sox choose to not make Frank an offer, what would preclude him from accepting an offer from the Twins? Loyalty to the Sox? I don't think so.

Class guy going to a class organization. Congrats Mr. Rooney. -
If the Sox decide to go another direction, Frank could end up anywhere in AL.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Makes me wonder if 2006 could possibly be the year of no attendance threads. It could be the year of "no tickets available" threads.
