Sox Monopoly disclaimer: Milton Bradley expresses sincere thanks to ESPN personalities Harold Reynolds and Steve Phillips for their invaluable insight as consultants.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 01:41 AM) No you're not. I can remember him too. Now if you could remember like Black Jack pitching with the Sox, that would be a different story. Lyle Mouton...that is going way back though. I remember he hit a game winning homer against the Rangers early in the season. The Rangers were unbeaten at the time IIRC...8-0 perhaps? I'll dig it up real quick, even though I think I've dug it up before...lol. EDIT: Ya, I thought so. Was off by 1 in the W-L...Texas was 7-0 going in. Mouton, game winner Black Jack? Try Gary Peters!

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 01:44 AM) He said a team discount not an Ozzie discount Considering the team is paying the salary, I'd say it is a team discount.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 01:25 AM) Yeah but Freddy was more so because of Ozzie.... those guys were more so for the team... The fact remains, regardless of the so called reason.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) Santana and Sheets both took smaller contracts than what they could of got in the open market. Santana at the begining of his contract year and Sheets in the middle of it. Freddie Garcia also took less than he could have received on the open market.

I've taken a beating sticking up for Ozzie here over the season. The pic in my avatar justified my faith in him. This is just icing on the cake. Congrats Ozzie.

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) I can see George cutting loose anyone that isn't in a long term deal at this point. He's pissed they got their butts handed to them, and is just the type of person to cut off his nose despite his face. I have to acknowledge that as a very valid point which I hadn't considered.

Proper respect being shown by KW here. Hopefully, there is enough mutual respect that they're able to work something out.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) That's one way to look at it, but without the jump they got at home in all of the series, would they have won? The crowd DEFINITELY gave them a lift when they needed it, and the first two games of any playoff series is important. Yea, this team had (DAMN I hate that!! HAD!!) a swaggar on the road, no doubt, but winning at home eased the urgency on the road so they could just play ball. And that was well worth it, to me. But my way of looking at it is the right way!

I can't see the Yankees letting Matsui walk, based upon their history. However, if they have learned from that history about siging guys for too long and too much, they may be gun shy. I'm betting he'll be a Yankee next year.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 06:05 AM) Uh Oh; No shock there.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 07:14 AM) Well, if we're not sending as many troops over for the next rotation as the current one what does he want to call it then? I was just trying to add some pertinent information to the discussion. I didn't know much more than that about the subject, as I just seen a sound byte of Rumsfeld.

So we made the mistake of relying on years worth of our own intelligence as opposed to the word of a few U.N. inspectors. I can live with that "mistake".

Grumpiness should be a constitutional right.

It's obvious what's at the bottom of that pit. The Ark of the Covenant, the Holy Grail and King Arthur's Excaliber.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) The WS DVD has an official cover now... Mercy! That's sweet.

Good to see Joe getting some much deserved love.

Mark Shapiro, NOT Kenny Williams, Exec of the Year

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) I wouldn't call AJ having a career year. He degressed in nearly every offensive catagory except hr's. Nor would I include Buehrle and Konerko in the "career year" catagory. Contreras and Garland are finally doing what has been expected of them for a couple of years. Basically, I don't think this a case of these over performing with little chance of them repeating their siccess. -
QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) Remember something about the White Sox, we have watched it all year. They did NOT have the best starter in the league. They did NOT have the best closer. They did NOT have the best fielder at any position. They did NOT have the best hitter at any position. The DID have the best team. It should not be cause for resentment, or even a surprise that they have not garnered individual awards. If you broke this team up and distributed the guys around the league, how many of them would your hear about again, except when they come to town to face the Sox? Apart they are run of the mill, together they are awesome. I posted something very similar to this in another thread. I wasn't trying to steal your thunder as I hadn't run across this post as of then.

Borchard, if he is not traded, will have a shot to hit his way onto the team in spring training. I believe it will be make or break for him with the Sox. He very well could make the team as DH or 4th OF, especially if they take Randar's p.o.v. and decide not to let Anderson be the 4th OF for developmental reasons.

The 2005 White Sox are a pretty damn amazing team. No Rookie of the Year No Cy Young winner Completely shut out on Gold Gloves Will not have the league MVP No league leaders in the major statistical catagories (BA, HR, RBI, W, K's, etc ) Yet, won more games than any AL team and went 11-1 in the post season.

I wanted to emphasize this part of the column to those that hold Paulie's clubhouse presense with little value.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) Great responses. I'll now answer my own question. I don't think I'll be as pissed when we lose. I don't see how I can be. My whole life it's been wait til next year and so many next years, the team was out of the race by July and it was wait til next year again. This team scared the hell out of me as Cleveland crept up on it and thrilled the heck out of me in winning all but one postseason game. Finally winning it all ... I can't imagine wanting the next one as much. I agree I don't want the Sox to be a one-year wonder and maybe when next year gets rolling I'll care just as much, but I just don't see it. That said ... Thank you white sox for not only getting into the Series, but winning it. Just ask the Braves and Cardinals how hard it is to complete the deal. And thank you AL all stars for winning the All Star game and giving us home field advantage! That was sweet. Funny thing, but the home field advantage didn't come into play. If fact, it prevented the Sox from winning the Series at home.

I agree with Jugger ... if Maggs was worth 5/70, then PK is worth 5/60.
