He gawn! Now we get to pound on that bullpen.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) Aaron with the basehit up the middle, 7-2 Sox on the overthrow and Rowand goes to 2nd. 1 out. YES! 7-1

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) Of course it does. You don't see me saying we should get rid of him. However, it was still a very poor play, and cost us a run. Yes it did. But how many runs has his gloved saved over the year? I'd guess dozens.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 08:00 AM) You too? I have a bunch of Fisk cards. Probably 2 or 3 hundred of them, all different. Wow. I'm impressed. I'd like to know what other cards are out there that I don't have. More than 200 different cards? I've bought every one I ever ran across.

The way Lopez is pitching, he won't last 5 innings. We'll get into that wore the f*** out bullpen.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) Please tell me you didn't take offense to me saying that Crede had a lot more time on that play than he acted like? I wasn't sure what your "ok, oh man" meant. I didn't think it was a "f***ers" thing that I said. Yes. Crede made a mistake. s*** happens.

Sosa sucks. Don't ya love it?!?!?

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:03 PM) To extropolate on Ian's sig quote: Soxtalk seems to be home of the GMs who never make bad trades ever and are totally perfect. Just ask 'em! I guess people need reminding of "My boy Olivo" being called a Hall of Famer from the year previous. f***ing kneejerk reactionaries. Too many teams saw themselves as contenders and the market was s*** so KW did what he could to upgrade the team. Blum is an asset defensively off the bench and he's currently got a higher OBP than Crede and is just .014 points below Crede in batting average. I'm happy that we got more bench help with a versatile player for a prospect -- and I think Olivo proves that we'll never know how prospects will pan out. Yes, it'd be nice to get another lefty reliever but the market was s***. No other team made a huge splash unless you consider Matt Lawton the trade that will catapault your team into the playoffs Christ, if I didn't know better, I would think that the Sox had a white flag sale & weren't 14 games up in the Central right now with the way some of the Chicken Littles are acting. I think with some of the people here on Soxtalk -- if KW walked on water they'd b****, piss and moan about him not being able to swim. I have to say, LCR, that is one helluva post.

Not a bad way to start a ballgame, eh guys?

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) I said this in the "White Sox Winner" thread yesterday. I will say it again. AJ is the best Sox catcher since Fisk. You can say that again.

A lot of players will clear waivers. It happens every year. And every year there is always a best team in baseball out there.
-
Well ... They didn't trade Brandon McCarthy.
-
Call it a hunch, but I say we'll keep Widger.
-
Instead of taking these wild guesses and besmirching the names of a lot of innocent ballplayers, why don't we just wait and see what happens.
-
Joe Morgan is a racist son of a b****. Period. That is his problem with Sandberg being in the HOF.

My collection of Carlton Fisk baseball cards. It numbers something more than 100 different cards.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:14 AM) Well it talks abut a 3 way deal in that little article with the mets. So baez would be going to the mets obviously and I'd assume Huff and Lugo here, interesting to say the least. Here's the quote again. Read it carefully. The Devil Rays were reportedly in line to be giving up all three of their most coveted trade commodities in one fell swoop. ESPN reported Saturday that along with Huff and Baez, Julio Lugo was now involved in the big three-way possible deal. That is refering to the BoSox-Mets-DRays deal. It says the big 3-way, not a big 3-way.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) Call me crazy, but I have a gut feeling the Sox are going to make a huge run for Manny if not land him. I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell of that happening. Just my opinion.
-
The Cincinnati Reds are missing a golden opportunity to rid themselves of Griffey's contract. They could make a deal with Boston centered on Griffey for Manny, adding whatever it took to make Boston go for it. Then, they could have stepped into Boston's place in the big 3 way deal involving the Mets and DRays.
-
If Huff and Baez were on two different teams and you were going acquire them both, it would take at least 4 prospects to do it. Think Alomar and Everett. It took what? ...5?

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:18 AM) I don't think any of us were suggesting dealing Cotts in a package for Guardado. We were just lining up the bullpen with Guardado in it, and we got to talking about how Cotts is so awesome. Yeah, Bavasi asks for Cotts, and he'd hear a dial-tone immediately. I didn't take it that you were talking about moving Cotts. I was just stating that out of Cotts, Koch and Foulke, Neal is the best pitcher right now.
-
Right now, Cotts is best pitcher involved in that trade.
-
From qwerty's post: The last half of the statement is now invalid, as he is no longer a 10-5 man. That '5' means the last five years with one team. That is, assuming the deal goes through.

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Thanks. Also, Marte still has a 2.8 something ERA, which is pretty damn good in my book. I think the deal has it's ups and downs, but if we could take out Marte, and throw in a prospect or 2 (assuming Philadelphia decides they can live without receiving major league talent in return), then I'd do this in a heartbeat. Marte is not the one I have any qualms about trading. His value will never be higher than it is today, and his effectiveness has been gradually going slowly downhill.
