QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 01:55 PM) On the replay, was it out? no

A Dye-ving catch!

I'm watching this one on ESPN.

Umps used to walk away from confrontation if at all possible. Now, they instigate it. I don't know if they want TV time or what, but it sucks. Hunter Wendelstadt is not that only ump that's not a pimple on Harry Wendlestadt's ass.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) That's about as stupid as when AJ got thrown out for tossing his bat after being called on on strike 3 and wouldn't pick up his bat. These umps are getting f***ing ridiculous. If a player is walking away, let them walk ... They are not being confrontational.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) Damn Carl got thrown out for nothing. He was gesturing that the pitch was outside on the way back to the bench and they ran him for that. All the arguing was done after he got tossed. To me, that's communicating to the guys coming up what to expect. Yet, the ump was giving him the evil eye as he was doing it.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) Ozzie going to talk to the home plate ump, and now Carl comes back from the dugout to join in. Carl is pissed and might get run. Joey is pushing Carl back to the dugout. Wow. Carl is HOT. He was already tossed.
-
God Dammit! What is with these umps throwing out guys as they are walking away from them. That is so f***ing bulls***.
-
So what we are saying here is .... Go Yankees?
-
Good inning for Garland, but Hernandez has some wicked numbers over his last few starts.
-
Does anybody take this seriously? Decimating the bullpen and positioning themselves to win the WS is an oxymoron if I ever heard one.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) I think Everett and Konerko for us is more than enough, it would be 'nothing of substance' for the BoSox in a trade for one of the best pure hitters in the league. Clarification is a wonderful thing.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) But this means you want to get away from what has gotten us this far, our defense. Crede is f***ing stellar at third with the glove and is a big reason for a lot of runners not crossing the plate because of his defensive play. Huff is brutal at 3B that's why Pinella pulled him from third half way through last year and he's been playing OF/1B/DH exclusively since then. He's a huge step down from Crede with the glove. Give me Overbay, his left handed bat in the middle of this lineup would be huge. I agree. Pulling Crede and replacing him any 'Hands of Stone' 3B would be counter-productive.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) With what they have they wouldn't need Konerko. Plus Everett would not be going back to Boston. So if you're giving up that for Manny Ramirez it's not anything the Red Sox would be interested in. It's like someone saying they'll trade us a starting outfielder who isn't as good as any of the 3 we already have. I was focused on you calling PK and CE 'nothing of substance' and what that says about what you feel about this team.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:38 PM) For Manny? LMAO. Just the fact that you would think Everett would ever go back to Boston is laughable. Not to mention the fact that it would make no sense for the Red Sox seeing how they would be recieving nothing of substance in return. Nothing of substance? If that's the case we are totally screwed and should be battling KC to stay out of the cellar.

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) Well dang, its quieter out there than a theif in a monastery. Hmm... Keeping with the mode of the cliche thread in SL&P .. Is this the calm before the storm?

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 10:22 AM) Folks, this is an honest question about an honest concern; I am not trying to stir things up or simply disagree to disagree. So...If Ozzie implements a "rest the regulars" policy so they are not banged up in the playoffs, could it cause them to get rusty by not playing together as often? The infielders (especially the SS and second baseman) need to always be on the same wavelength and always know and anticipate where eachother is. That comes with playing together continuously. I agree, so far it has not been a problem, but what if he decides to rest the regs even more as we go through the hot August stretch run? So my concern: will breaking that up frequently on the stretch drive cause them to lose their "gel" when playing together? Really, this may not be an intelligent concern, but it is an honest one, so set me straight. If it has worked for the first 99 games of the season, why wouldn't it continue working for the final 63?

Today's the first day of the rest of your life.

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) Hang cool. man. I just don't want the regulars getting rusty by not all playing together for a substantial part of the time. Maybe I am paranoid and the Oz way will prove right. I hope that is that case. It just doesn't seem like I remember Lopes, Cey & Garvey, or Conception, Rose & Morgan, or Ripken & Murray being plugged in and out of the lineup weekly. SFF 65-34 ... it appears to be working.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) This will be interesting. Personally I wouldn't deal Politte. However, you could make a case of the Sox dealing him while his value is at peak. Plus Its usually a lot easier/cheaper to pick up a good righty reliever than a lefty via the trade market. Kenny isn't going to deal any of his relievers without bringing in a good replacement, imo. I also highly doubt he'd deal Politte. The 'peak value' theory shouldn't be conidered this year. You dance with the one(s) that brung ya.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) You guys seriously don't get it. This is for if we make it to the playoffs, Ozzie will have the flexibility/confidence to go to any one of his guys to get whatever job done. If you guys seriously think Ozzie would plug all these guys in at once in a playoff game, you're simply f***tarded. Ozzie's just trying to keep his guys fresh, if they're going to be on this roster. Thanks for getting my back, but I've preached the 'long term' vs. 'today's game' so much, without it it sinking in that I read his post and just said ... Ah, f*** it.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) yeah this would be good for team chemistry, lets keep all giants pitching away from the white sox please. There stupid liars anyaway and should be playing in canada. Now that's an intelligent, well thought out point of view. :headshake

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:31 AM) Nah, 3E8 is saying that Overbay > PK, but when you factor in the money, it looks even better. I don't know that I'd say Overbay is better than Konerko, but I think he'd fit our team better.
-
QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:27 AM) When you factor the amount of $ they are each paid, this comparison becomes laughable. Forget the $$$. We are trying to win a World Series here.

QUOTE(winodj @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 07:42 PM) My dog has no nose. How does he smell? Awful! Every dog has his day.
