  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) What happens when the government is free of any criticism? When anyone who reports that the President authorized a break in, or had sex with an intern, or soldiers murdered civilians, is dismissed as having a bias? Are we better off? By discredting the one group who has the time, resources, and opportunity to "keep the governmnent honest" our elected leaders will have no oversight. This is basically what the Soviet Union had with TASS. And we know how well their society turned out. This is also basically what the Democrats had prior to Rush, Hannity, Reagan and FoxNews.
  2. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) I'm your vehicle, Baby - I'll take you anywhere you want to go.
  3. QUOTE(poorme @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 09:40 AM) frank's ultimately responsible for what his lawyer says/does on his behalf. See my post above.
  4. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 09:01 AM) It's a tough decision for sure. I'm sure Frank doesn't wanna be the union buster or the 'snitch'. You make a good point about Schilling, but this might be his last year playing. Frank still has a few left in him, why make enemies with guys you're gonna have to work with? Especially when he's not 100% sure where he'll be next year. I'm speculating a lot, of course. His agent/lawyer, whatever, did say that Frank is being lumped in with those that are suspected of steroid use and FRank has been a staunch anti-steroid spokesman.
  5. Posednik: Has stated he tried to do too much last year and will get back to what he was successful at. He has also proven he has the ability to have success at this level. Uribe: How can he be considered a bad move. He exceeded all our expectations last year. He can possibly be a small ball player because that what the team is stressing. He's also a GG caliber SS, and the team is stressing defense. Iguchi: Unknown quantity. We'll see. It's early though. He hasn't achieved a comfort level yet. Konerko: He hit .298 in '00 and .304 in '02. He's hit over 30 HR twice. He's proved he has the capabilities. Rowand: No. He was a young player that was set back by a stupid, unfortunate accident. He's for real. Dye: A series of freak accidents. Let's see what happens with him. Maybe it's time luck went his way for a change. AJ: No one complained about his defense in Minnesota. He didn't fit in SF, so he got a bad rap. I think AJ will be an asset to this team. He's got the chip on his shoulder that this team has been lacking. El Duque: It takes two years to fully recover from his surgery. It's been proven time and time again. He's healthy now. Shingo: Maybe. But then again, he's proven he can be successful at this level. Buerhle: Take his stats over the past 3 or 4 years and compare them to the rest of the starters in the AL. He ranks as one of the best. most consistant starting pitchers in the league. Garcia: He struggled while he was injured. He was effective while healthy. Check it out.
  6. SS2K5 is 100% correct. There are many many Kentucky fans the REALLY KNOW THEIR s***. Your post was bordering on, no not bordering it in fact was, prejudous. It was making an assumption about a group of people, based on your experience with a select few. Now, if you want to talk about being ignorant, you sir, have supplied us with a perfect example of ignorance. But, I won't make the assumption that all Duke fans are of the same caliber.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 08:16 AM) http://apnews.myway.com/article/20050315/D88R62Q81.html How can Soxtalk get one of those anthrax irradiators?
  8. I deleted a couple of anger induced posts here. I just want to say to Butter Parque that I, as a UK fan, have always respected Coach K and the Duke program and I resent your remarks about UK fans. Yes, Duke is a better team this year. Great, Enjoy it. Just don't be so f***ing classless.
  9. MLB has liars and cheaters. The NBA has thugs. Are these guys trying to kill the goose that layed the golden egg?
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 05:06 AM) When a group who appeals to half the population is pushing their self serving agenda at every opportunity, it's no wonder the public is starting to agree. Too bad they aren't using that propaganda for good, instead of self serving interests. What happens when we believe everything our government tells us because anyone who is critical of them can not be trusted? The other group, who historically have appealed to a majority of the population, has had their agenda pushed by every major media outlet for the past 30+ years, yet agenda pushing wasn't an issue then. Only when the other side has created their own media outlets to get their voice heard, and have yanked the popularity away by doing so, has agenda pushing been a problem.
  11. With the current panic level in Wrigleyville today, there are some interesting columns, remarks made in today's Chicago papers. Mike Imrem with a hilarious take on it. Words of wisdom from Stone to Wood As expected, Mariotti whines.
  12. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) I know it is "Street" and all that stupid crap, but how can anybody argue that his name is pronounced "Fiddy" or whatever when he uses the NUMBER??? I would go along with him correcting myself and my posse if he wasn't using a NUMBER. But by his ways, I should be paying "Fiddy" cents for stuff and anytime I come upon the number I need to start pronouncing it "fiddy". I mean, I guess 50 is actually pronounced "fiddy" in everything. 100 is now pronounced "hundo", 2 is now pronounced "toowah", and I'll let you all know the new pronunciation for every other number as soon as I get my street cred and posse hooked up. You are trying to use logic, here. Wha' da hellza madderwitchu?
  13. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) Considering that Bush the elected official who has had 4 years in power already is obviously going to have more stuff to be negative about. I'm surprised it isn't more lopsided. "Examining the public perception that coverage of the war in Iraq was decidedly negative, it found evidence did not support that conclusion. The majority of stories had no decided tone, 25 percent were negative and 20 percent were positive, it said. The three network nightly newscasts and public broadcaster PBS tended to be more negative than positive, while Fox News was twice as likely to be positive as negative." Other than that, the article wasn't really about bias. I trust "public perception" more than a study on media bias. These "studies" can be just as, if not more so, biased. It's like comparing stats or watching two ballplayers over an extended period of time. I'll trust my observations over the stats every time.
  14. I was hoping John Kruk would get it.
  15. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 01:33 AM) When you constantly win games like they do, lucky wins become non-existent. Intangibles are very, very real. Intangibles are also the reason Timo Perez is back at $1 mill...and almost all of White Sox nation is still wondering WTF...$1 f***in million? That is like them giving me a minor league contract. I think that by the season's end, that salary will be considered a bargain. Timo's better than he was last year. He was playing with an injured wheel that effected all the parts of his game that were his strong points.
  16. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) I just want all those baseball "experts" to tell me again how Prior's PERFECT mechanics guaranteed that he'd never have injury problems, especially to his throwing arm. How his PERFECT weight distribution and leg drive made an arm injury impossible. Please tell me that again, because it was SO interesting and informative last time. I can explain this .... s*** happens!
  17. You guys are knocking the intangibles, but there is logic behind the fact they are grading that. For example, KW has focused on acquiring "grinders". Not stat guys, but guys that play baseball to win. AJP can be an intangible himself. Will he be a problem in the clubhouse, or just irritate the hell out of the opposition? Sure, intangibles are not measurable, but they can be intelligently examined and given a probable grade.
  18. It wouldn't bother me one iota if either or both of these guys played their way onto the 25 man roster. That's what spring training and battling for a job is all about. I assume Cotts is penciled in the bullpen, but if Walker outperforms him, he deserves the shot to see if he can hold onto the job while Cotts tries to establish himself as a starter in Charlotte. If Cotts was an established major leaguer, I'd look at it differently. But, he has had limited success at the big league level. As for Ozuna, he's competeing against Valdez so it's not like Valdez's slot was carved in stone either. In both cases, let the best man win.
  19. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) I know, but he didn't have much of a chance to begin with, which was what I was trying to say. And with Walker doing well so far, Munoz ain't going to be in our bullpen at the start of the season. End of Story. Well, with that post you are using other arguments which have some validity. That first post was kind of "out there".
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) Munoz lost any chance he had of making the bullpen with his 1st performance in Spring Training. I find that statement highly unlikely. One bad day at the beginning of ST doesn't ruin a guys chances.

    OT question

    QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) Last year they were selling them outside of the park but who knows if they'll do that this year. My advice use your money to buy sox clothing not to heckle the other team. Heckling Sosa in Baltimaore may be hazardous to your health.
  22. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) IMHO, Hawk+Stone= could never co-exist. As much as I love the Hawkaroo, he has a big ego when it comes to baseball knowledge. Although him and Stone have a good relationship, I don't think he could handle a guy in the booth that could challenge his baseball knowledge. Stone is one of the most intelligent baseball minds I've ever seen in the booth. I disagree. I think both of these guys are professional. I also think they'd respect each others baseball knowledge.
