  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) They could not agree on a new map, so agreed to keep the old. The courts agreed it was legal and they could continue with the old. The assumption was the map would be in effect until the 2010 census. The GOP came up with a brilliant strategy here, and I believe California, to pick up seats and it worked. Dems in the Texas legislature walked out and left the state rather than face the music and the special sessions. Governor Perry ordered the State Police to Oklahoma to arrest the representatives and bring that back to session so a quorum could be in place. If it wasn't so sad, it would have been funny. It was reported at the time this was the first time a redistricting occurred like this. YASNY mentioned the DEMs had done it before, I'm not certain he was meaning this mid decade plan. What they did on the Mexico border was stretch the district N-S literally they are a couple hundred miles long and of course snake back up into GOP strongholds and pit border Democrats against upstate GOP. Not that specifically. Generally speaking, both sides bend and twist the rules in every which way they can to their advantage. In this case, it was GOP. Next time, it will be the Dems, maybe. It all depends when and where the next opportunity comes along. They are all as crooked as a dog's hind leg.
  2. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) i made that mistake sitting next to my mama in a car as a young teen. she made a fist and b****slapped me. then when my nose was busted up and profusely bleeding made me get out of the car in front of a lil country store in a tiny town near where we lived and clean myself up with tissues so i wouldn't get blood all over her car. then i had to go home and face my dad... lesson learned. I'm sure. Sometimes, you have to get a kid's attention.
  3. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) Atleast thats all he was licking There's a coffee table joke there, somewhere.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) you make it sound like he tried to kill him on purpose :banghead but still me personally, i dont think he is much of a head coach especially with letting Randy Moss walk all over him That may be the owner's fault instead of Tice's. Look at the way Cubs handle handled the Sosa - Baylor situation a few years ago. Baylor's credibility was zero before he ever managed his first regular season game for the Cubs.
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 03:12 AM) Is he going to be able to improve those secondary pitches, while he's pitching in the pen for us though beacuse that seems to be the major reason for those who want him back in Charlotte, to make him a better pitcher in the long - term. But the question that needs asking, is will Kevin Walker be a better reliever in 2005 than Neal Cotts? There is no reason why he couldn't improve those secondary pitches. If Kevin Walker is the better pitcher, then he should make the club. Which is what I basically said in my first post.
  6. Vizcaino was much more than a throw in.
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 07:28 AM) The argument there though is are you sacrificing long - term gain for some short - term gain? That's something the Sox have to consider. This is where I disagree. I don't think you are sacrificing anything. In fact, I think it's better for Cotts to continue to learn how to pitch to ML hitters, rather than get ml hitters out. He can be stretched out to be a starter in ST when they think he's ready to start.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) The baseball players are a part of a bigger agenda. They will have people testify who have been effected by steroids, such as a dad of a teenager who killed himself and it seemed to be tied to steroids. I like that Congress is doing it, only if they ask the right questions. Most of these players can honestly say no to "Did you ever do steroids?" since technically I think most did HGH. This is something that needs attention brought to it, and have these guys who made millions answer under oath Don't forget, baseball has an anti-trust exemption that Congress can always pull if they don't satisfy them That teenager that killed himself was the nephew of of ex-Cub, ex-Dodger Burt Hooten.
  9. The sideways cap does not mean you are a thug or gangsta or whatever. This is true. However, it does give the impression that you think thugs or gangstas are cool. You are telling the world that this is what you aspire to be. And if you think appearance and first impressions don't mean anything, you'll learn otherwise. That is fact of life.
  10. Several years back, I was walking into Busch Stadium for a miscellaneous Cardinals game. I was, of course, wearing a Sox cap. Some dude, all dressed in red, sees the cap and says to me, "Gene Mauch says that chicago sports fans are losers, and White Sox fans are real losers." My response, which brought the same dumb blank look you get from your typical Cub fan was, "So tell me, what has Gene Mauch ever won." Dumb blank look Me: "That's what I thought." And I walked away. Get into the stadium, take my seat and look around .... The guy is sitting directly behind me! Turns out, he was pretty knowledgable and we had a good time talking baseball during the game.
  11. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:36 PM) I can beat that. Just try explaining to someone in Australia that you spend time on a message board talking about the Chicago White Sox. Actually at University today I saw an American Exchange Student wearing a Chicago Cubs T-Shirt. Ugh... you know what that means, they're migrating. Now that's a damn good idea. We'll send ALL the Cub fans to Australia.
  12. That shirt Hurt's wearing .... Is that the BP jersey. That's badass.

    QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) But not left enough to fire Gary Barnett apparently... I can't understand that. If he had made a winner of Colorado, I could understand even if I didn't agree with them. But, damn, he's been exceedingly mediocre at best.

    Apparently, U of C's extreme leftism is coming to the surface. I hope the moderate alumni withhold financial contributions. The power of the almighty buck speaks loudly.
  15. QUOTE(winodj @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) Except its amazing how fast the tables turn when someone starts "changing the rules of the game." It can really bite someone in the ass. After the Texas re-redistricting, Dems are looking at doing the same thing in a few states where they now control state houses. Democrats did very well last year on the AAA level of state houses and senates... especially in red states. And that means a year or two down the line, it could cost the GOP some of the very seats they count on today. Oh, the Dems have played the same tune before. Just had a different drummer.
  16. I admire both Lieberman and McCain for their refusal to toe the party line. LCR is right that the Dems are upset about the Social Security reform issue when it comes to Lieberman. Bush's foreign policy is starting to show signs of germination, with the signs of democracy in the Middle East. If Bush's foreign policy is bearing fruit, they damn sure cannot have his domestic issues do so as well.
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) That wouldn't make Yas .. it would make him C'mere!
  18. Oh hell people. Iraq is a strategically important country in this day and time. The British and the Americans have a history of placing themselves in strategically important locations. In this case, you have both oil and proximity to Isreal involved. We are also putting ourselves between China-Russia and Isreal. This is a repeat of the history of the English speaking peoples.
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) Yas.. while I was taken aback by a couple of your comments I know you would never intentionally offend anyone. I think you know me well enough to know that I take the printed word worth a grain of salt. It's interesting to see the justification for it though. Says a lot about the person. No harm no foul with you. We know you know better... Well, apparently my remarks sent a message I wasn't intending to send. Thanks for letting me back the hell up here.
  20. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) Thanks Darlin'
  21. Ok... I'm thinking wimpy vampire here.
  22. Regardless of the turn this thread has taken, I sincerely hope my apology is accepted.
  23. QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 07:11 AM) I know it's been mentioned on here by several other folks, but I REALLY hope that those two spots go to Walker and Adkins with Cottsy working as a SP in Charlotte. I REALLY hope they pick the 12 best pitchers and put them on the roster.
  24. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 06:29 AM) IIRC, the base salaries for Congressmen is about $140,000. Given that importance of their jobs and the fact that they need to maintain two residences, it's difficult to argue that they're overpaid. It may be difficult to argue, but I'll take a shot at it. First, we don't seem to get much out of them for our money except a bunch of partisan politics and rhetoric. Second, after one term in office they are on a lifetime pension, which is basically 100% of their congressional salary, iirc. Damn right they are overpaid.
  25. This would take some serious juggling to find room for 4 lefties.
