QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 09:11 AM) Speaking of critics, when we finally do win a World Series, think they will erect a statue of Mariotti for all his helpful suggestions? [logging off and running for cover] Speaking of which I liked his column today The pigeons have to have somewhere to s***.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) If you think about it, which hole is easier to fill, whether in house or via trade---an impact 2b/ #2 hitter/ leadoff hitter, who has speed, and solid defense? Or a LH set up man in a guy like Marte? Even if it created a short term hole, the current bullpen could absorb his loss.

I guess I'm the only one that appreciated what Schoney has to offer. Okay. So be it. I hope everyone else is right and I'm wrong.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 08:32 AM) just reading that put a giant smile on my face. I've wanted luis castillo on this team for years now, he is one of my favorite players in the league and exactly what the sox need. Oh my god, if the sox land castillo, wow....this team would be amazing. One of the most solid teams in the league. Don't forget the fact that we'd have to give something ... something more than just roster fodder ... to get him.

I agree. You know the price will be high and I'm not that sure that Vazquez will be worth that high price.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 08:04 AM) Thought I'd update a little. It looks like the MArlins are in a good position to land Delgado. The Rangers and Mets both needing to clear salary before getting Delgado. And the Marlins offer of 3 yrs and $35 mill, even if deferred, seems the best on the board. that said, it looks like the Marlins fans know Castillo would have to be moved if they landed Delgado. From various fan sites, it looks like they'd approve. With everything quiet on the 2b front for the sox, maybe they are playing the waiting game, to see if Castillo becomes available. If he does, the sox would go after him in a heartbeat. I'd think they would target him even more than they have Vazquez. Let's go Marlins, land Delgado! It makes sense that they'd go after him. He fits our needs. He is more of a known quantity than Iguchi. Also, Ozzie is very familiar with him. That being said, I hope you are right.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 08:11 AM) What about 5, 6 or 7 games there Tex. Will you give a bit of leeway then? Not if it's against the Cubs.

Went back and took the quiz again .... it asked different questions this time around. Well ... I went from Sudan to.... You're Afghanistan! In the words of Bob Dylan, you "haven't known peace and quiet in so long [you] don't remember what it's like!" Sad but true. Boss after boss has led you around, using you for their nefarious purposes, and dumping you when the time was right. You've hurt and been hurt and now you're just sick and tired. When will people leave you alone and let you do your own thing? But you don't really even know what you want anymore. Suddenly contemplating ending it all. :banghead

You're Sudan! Every time you get a headache, you reach for some aspirin, only to realize that someone destroyed it. That's just how things are going for you right now... it's hard to eat, hard to sleep, hard to not have a headache. You try to relax, but people always jump on you about something that doesn't make sense. If you were a goat, you'd be a Nubian. Sudan?

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 01:42 AM) If we win the division this year, will everyone then agree that this was a good trade? Probably not.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) While under the influence of the koolaid, I disagree. Thinking of Shoe as a starter, I believe the five arms we have in the rotation are better than him. As a middle relief type guy, I don't want an unhappy guy riding the pine. Taking the koolaid straw from my lips, I remember the early season guy, and keep thinking he's another pre-WS E-Lo. I could see him stringing a season that would make us miss him. Make sense? Yep. All clear.

I wasn't blaming the player ... I was saying the player is being an idiot. Big difference.

If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.

When I said I'd rather have SS than DH, I was not talking about using as a starter. Let him be LR and mop up. But in the event you need 2 or 3 spot starts from time to time, he'd be effective if healthy. That's not pulling a full load as a starter.
-
If Hermanson can step into the rotation if someone goes down, and perform at Garland's level then we'll be ok. The fact you guys are debating this is a good thing.
-
"Damn! I wore my bowling shirt to a pool tourney."
-
When SS was healthy and in the rotation, he was an effective pitcher. He tried to pitch through and shot all his stats to hell. Since then, he has been labeled as a s***ty, fragile pitcher. A lot of pitchers have arm problems from time to time. I think this assessment of SS unfair and inaccurate. Given the choice between SS or DH. I'd take SS.

QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) lol...that matador thing was a pretty stupid thing to use.... Eh, take it for what it is.... an amatuerish attempt at humor.

I love it. All these posts with all these stats has lead to this conclusion. Thank God for all those informative stats.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) I don't get the matador thing.. It's a reference to the new ESPN series "Tilt". The matador is one of the main characters on the show, which is about professional poker players.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) When did players become like this? I don't remember (maybe I just didn't pay that much attention back them) guys like Walter Payton doing stuff like this. No you don't. Payton had class. He'd hand the ball to referee when he got to the end zone ... You know, like he'd been there before.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) That number 12 keeps getting use. Chris Singleton a few years back, the Willie Harris. Roberto Alomar had it, then I think Ben Davis had it, then Roberto Alomar had it again, and now A.J. has it. Ed Herrmann!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) Every agent has that same situation. So people would want an agent to negotiate smaller contracts for them and convince them to take less money and play in Dallas because the taxes are lower. I want a guy who can get me the best deal possible, taking all factors into consideration. Where I live is important to me. I would prefer a place year round, not two homes for season and non season. I think Boras takes the heat for his clients a lot of the time. And I would want my agent to do that for me. Kind of a good guy - asshole deal. Would you also want a player who also settles for less on the field? Hmmmm ... let's look at it this way. I live in western KY. If I made $50K here, there is no way I'd accept $60K to move to Chicago. It would cost me in the long run.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) If you knew this was a Boy Scout Camp and the kids in question were all Eagle Scouts, would you change your opinion? I think .. regardless ... he's right. It's all about the bucks. Or, the perception of the businessman as to what will translate in to bucks and what will translate into lost bucks.
