  1. Because ... they are going to drop out of the race and lose him to free agancy and receive nothing.
  2. You know, sometimes people look at teams, players and situations and using logic, come with possible scenarios. Possible being the key word. It's the type of thing that if you were a GM you'd call and ask about, anyway. It is NOT beyond the realm of possibility for Houston to trade Beltran and/or Clemens, considering they would have to jump over 5 or 6 teams just to get the NL wild card. Even Beltran has told his wife not to totally unpack.
  3. I'm going to be at the Sox-Rangers game in Arlington Monday and I fully expect, no I demand, that Randy Johnson make his White Sox debut in that game! Otherwise it's Scott Schonewies. :headshake
  4. I invoked my 5/10 no trade priviliges. I couldn't stand the thought of playing more than 3 games a year in Wrigley Field.
  5. Hopefully, the Tigers will start trading off some of their higher priced veterans to someone besides the Twins. Regardless, if we can't beat the Tigers we don't deserve to be division champs ...... and we won't be.
  6. The pitchers should put a stop to all this crap. I mean Sosa wouldn't have survived a half of a season if played in '60's with the likes of Gibson and Drysdale in the NL. If it's a big home run, that's one thing. But one that cuts Montreal's lead to 8-1 in the eighth inning is not a "big" home run and should not be celebrated.
  7. Lord, it's hard to be humble ......
  8. Exactly. Other than the fact he has a contract with Houston, what is his motivation to pitch for a team that has basically thrown in the towel, as would be the case if they trade Beltran.
  9. I picked up that info from reading this board. I certainly wouldn't bet my life on the accuracy of it.
  10. Cards lead by 7. The Cubs are still very much in the wildcard picture, and if the make it, they are dangerous. Nomar is clutch and a an upgrade for them at SS. But as for your conspiracy theory. The Cubs are not concerned with anything the Sox do.
  11. Yes. Nomar would help the Cubs. He's starting to hit now, also.
  12. Only 4 games, but 6 teams back. That's the hard part. They have to jump over so many teams. Only 1 of which would have to play as well as the 'Stros
  13. I hate to be that way. I appreciate it though.
  14. Houston's motivation in getting Beltran was to try and get back into the race. That didn't happen, so now their motivation to trade him would be to get something instead of losing him for nothing. As for Clemens, I can see him possibly asking to be traded to Boston or NY to get back into the race. In fact, if Houston bails on Beltran, Clemens just might hang 'em up. Trading Clemens would be done as a courtesy by Houston, towards Clemens and they wouldn't get much of anything in return. Besides, Clemens can always resign with the Astros next year if he chooses.
  15. Exactly ... it just flashes so quickly that it's irritating.

    Bonds

Bonds' hands are too quick ... He'd turn on it and "splash".
  17. Qwerty, just because don't think getting Kendall is the best option, there's no reason to say "We are not getting kendall." like it is the definitive word straight from the front office. And, nothing personal, but I hate that avatar.
  18. Hey I'm all for it! I'm sure Houston can use a 46 yr old centerfielder. Wait. They have Biggio,
  19. There's nothing wrong with Nomar as far as I am concerned. He just doesn't make sense for the Sox.
  20. Nothing is carved in stone. Shingo and Crede are represented by Boras. I know there are extenuating circumstances involved with each, but they did "negotiate" with Boras to sign Shingo. Things have a way of changing.
  21. Replacing Valentin with Nomar makes no sense whatsoever. This is NOT my idea of "going for it". Trading the prospects to acquire Johnson, and them moving him to Boston to make them practically unbeatable in a short series also makes no sense what-so-f***ing-ever. If anything happens to bring Nomar to the Sox, it's just the beginning of a series of moves. There can be no other logical explanation.

    Bonds

True, but you don't pitch IN to Barry Bonds.
  23. I submit two "plays". or more accurately, events. First, Ozzie's tirade in the last game of the Angels series that turned the tide from a losing streak to a winning streak. Second was Shingo's first save. The smile on his face was memorable in itself and seemed to signal to Sox fans that the Koch era really was over.
