  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:14 AM) Interesting. A guy picks up money that falls from a woman's purse, gets called out on it, refuses to give it back, and gets pummeled by both team's fans. A well deserved pummeling. This was a pregnant lady. He was basically stealing that kid's baby food. Sox fan or not, the man is a tool.
  2. QUOTE (Cubano @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) I was thinking that the White Sox should not move Alexei to SS in 2009 and allow him to continue to master the 2B position. The Sox can sign a SS in the FA market. What do you guys think? Alexei's video: http://www.4shared.com/file/53314487/4dd0e...rez_080629.html It depends on other players. If OC hits the market and Getz or Richar are ready to step in, then Ramirez should go to SS. If the Sox can keep or replace Cabrera with a quality SS, Alexi should stay at 2B.
  3. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) I have a hard time admitting to respecting the Twins but I do. I probably watch a 100 Twins games a year, which people would think I should be a Twins fan, but I always root against them instead. Yes, I agree. The Twins have done a very good job of staying competitive year in and year out. Their scouting and player developement personell are excellent based on the results they bring to big club.
  4. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 10:06 AM) Southsider, since this will be my first softball game, where will it be taking place? Also, how many people are going to the game after? Oh ... probably about 36000 people.
  5. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) According to a friend of my sister's, Anderson wasn't a very mature person at the U of A, either. I'm glad that he's (apparently) grown up. While it's still unknown if he'll become an every-day ML player, it's way too early to give up on this guy. Especially when he's the only above-average ML-ready CF in the organization. Defensively, he's above average. The other remains to be seen.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:22 AM) His problem has always been maturity. He came up to MLB with a flawed swing (something that's totally correctable with some extra work and getting repetition against live pitching) he managed to get by on in the minors, and he struggled, but instead of working on it he pouted and acted like a b****. Then when he went to AAA he wasn't professional about it, and didn't put his full effort into it. He admits now that he just wanted the status of being a major leaguer but didn't want to put the work in, but he's doing it now, and I've just got a feeling that if he ever got to play consistently (meaning for several weeks, not several days) he'll show more. Bingo! Brian Anderson has grown up.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:18 AM) I agree with this, I actually think seeing Swish play so well defensively at 1B is more of a good to know for the future thing, such as in case Thome is gone after this year and Konerko moves to DH more. I am just hoping that in the time Paulie heals his oblique, he can also heal his thumb injury. I firmly believe the thumb was the biggest reason Paulie struggled was the thumb, especially after seeing how Quentin's slump a couple weeks ago coincided directly with his hand bothering him. It sucks Paulie had a setback, but if we can get him back with the oblique AND thumb 100 percent, he could come back and get on one of his hot streaks that we know can carry the team for a couple weeks. PK is only 32, no way he's done yet. That's true. Maybe I should have been more specific and said baseball teams. After all, I don't think Wally Pipp was injured, just had the flu. I think Swish is one of those guys that you put anywhere on the field other than pitcher, and he'd prove to be at least adequate. There are guys that are just good baseball players, and they'll step up and do what needs to be done and Swish is that type of player, imho.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) I still think so too, there's just a segment of the fanbase that hates him though so they think the slightest degree of support for him is fanboyism. It's not about his total career stats, it's what I see, and the fact that he's shown flashes for a few weeks at a time. I know he hasn't hit, but I still think there's a chance he can. Everything is magnified with him, he was hitting fine, one of the more productive hitters on the team actually (and sadly) but he hits a cold spell just like every other hitter in our lineup has had so far (except Hall maybe) and he never hears the end of it. That's true, and it's difficult to produce consistently and stay sharp when your playing time is sporadic. Some players, however, do have that knack. BA is not one of those players yet and he may never be one. But I believe the skill set is there, the maturity is now there and all he needs is the opportunity and experience.

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:10 AM) Well that is just a dumb idea ^^^^ Now here is a prime example of what I was just talking about!
  10. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) This has been great to see. I do believe Konerko and Thome in the same lineup magnifies the all or nothing issue they have had all season. I think the offense has been more balanced with Konerko out as well as with the Sox in NL parks and no DH. I agree that the lineup has been more balanced and the games in NL parks seemed to make Paulie's injury a case of good timing for us. However, I'd much rather have a healthy PK in the lineup now that interleague play is behind us.
  11. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:03 AM) Unless Kenny traded for somebody like Taveras, I agree. And with Taveras currently sporting a .301 OBP, I don't see him helping us that much. BA is maddening at the plate at times, but is a really good 4th outfielder and has the occasional game like last night. I agree that Wise or Ozuna would be the one to go if Kenny made a deal, as both are the 5th options in the outfield and infield, respectively. He may prove me wrong at some point, but I believe that if BA gets another shot at being a regular that he'll prove to be a quality major league ballplayer.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) Not dumb posters, but there are certainly dumb posts, of which some posters seem to be more prone to than others (however, the ignore function allows me to scroll past them blissfully unaware). That being said there are plenty of good posters if you are willing to put all that aside (Kalapse, yourself, witesoxfan, kyyle, etc etc) Most of the time, when I see what I consider a 'dumb' post, I just scroll on past it. I don't want to take the time to research stats to prove a point, nor get into a pissing match with someone. I figure that sooner or later they will be influenced by the quality posts on the board and come around to my way of thinking.
  13. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 10:57 AM) Konerko is a bonafide 2nd half hitter in his career. Let him rest up and get completely healthy until the ASB. Now's a good chance to see what BA is made of for the next couple of weeks anyways. Paulie will be back in the lineup when he's ready, and I think he could go on a tear. He's not going to keep hitting .215. Paulie is a proven solid major league hitter that has struggled due to a couple of nagging injuries. It's very difficult to perform at the major league level when you are 100%, let alone when you aren't. Look at the difference between '07 and '08 for Toby Hall. I can't believe people that just want to throw Paulie under the bus when he has been so solid for so long in a Sox uniform.

QUOTE (Maxwell @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 10:56 AM) I agree with all of that. Sometimes they really are dumb though. Of course, they just may have the same opinion of you.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 10:53 AM) He picks them with the very best of em and gets to anything hit near him. The only area he actually lacks is in the range department and I'd agree that Swisher is all around better, but not by a whole lot. I also think Swish is one of the best defensive 1st baseman in the game (as he should be, considering he is capable of playing CF). I agree with every word of this post.

QUOTE (Maxwell @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 10:37 AM) Yeah but I think you get the other extreme as well. I guess what I'm saying is, there are some really dumb fans here. I'm not saying generally, the fans here are dumb. I have conflicting opinions with a lot of the posters here from time to time. Just because I happen to disagree with them doesn't mean they are dumb. Sometimes, smart people have dumb opinions. And to be honest, anyone that spends much time here and puts forth opinions ends up having to eat their words, eventually.
  17. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 10:31 AM) The Sox have 109 HR compared to the Twins 56 HR, yet the Sox have scored only 2 more runs than the Twins. To me that's just mind boggling. Check out the run differential, though. The Sox should keep on keeping on and the Twins should backslide a bit if the current pace is maintained.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) In another thread I compared the Twins to an obnoxious rabid dog that always gets in the way. I would very much like to be the proverbial shotgun that takes them out back and puts them down. P.E.T.A. will be calling on you soon.
  19. QUOTE (Maxwell @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 09:23 AM) Maybe my perspective is wrong, but I'm not intentionally blowing it out of proportion. Every time I've heard him speak outside of the booth he has said something racially motivated. Most recently he agreed with willie randolph. I'm not saying you are intentionally doing anything. In fact, I'm not criticizing you. I was just expressing a somewhat different opinion.
  20. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 07:45 AM) So, you are telling me that this team is better WITHOUT a healthy and productive Paul Konerko? WOW! ^^^^^^^^^^^^
  21. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 08:48 AM) +1 Agreed. Outside of the Rockies series, I'm pretty happy. Splitting six games with the best team in the NL isn't bad at all. Alexei is much less of a defensive downgrade that I thought he'd be. And I really like having Juan as a defensively-solid 4th infielder. I wouldn't even call him a downgrade. He has a different skill set than Juan, but he's really opened my eyes.
  22. QUOTE (Maxwell @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 09:02 AM) I disagree completely. I think he is obsessed with race, judging from hearing him speak. He is definitely slanted racially when he expresses his opinion, quite often. However, I think you are blowing it a bit out of proportion.
  23. Our guys are pretty good at hitting it out of the park. Our pitchers are pretty good at keeping it in the park. This is a good thing.
  24. If the Sox make a move, it's going to be an under the radar type of player to add versatility, depth or possibly speed. I don't believe any of the regular position players or our pitchers will be pushed back for any acquisitions, unless it's Russell. Ozuna could possibly be bumped off the roster, as well, but I believe they'll keep Uribe as injury insurance. Of course, Wise or Anderson could be bumped as well, though I'd hate to see Anderson shipped out or down. I think I value good defense more than the average fan and BA certainly supplies that.
  25. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 05:53 AM) What does that have to do with anything? Not much, but he speaks the truth.
