QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) I think Ozzie is the Venezuelan Earl Weaver. Hopefully we can win as much as they did in their prime. Earl Weaver was a pretty damn good manager. 'Nuff said.

QUOTE (TCQ @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) I coulda sworn the papers have been talking about either uribe or ozuna going when konereko comes back because guillen likes wise a lot. I cant blame hed be a great pinch runner as he showed after a great hit off of a pitcher that i could have hit off when i was 12. ( it was a good hit i just think jobo's career is a joke.) I don't any one who has a 'career' in the majors is a joke. I'd be perfectly happy to have had jobo's career and let someone on the internet call me a joke. No problem at all with that.

QUOTE (TCQ @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) Agreed proves nepotism is alive and well It's not that I think Joe is a terrible broadcaster, but I had a lot... no, A LOT ... of respect for Jack Buck.

I've always been a big fan of Joe Crede. However, I don't think he'll make the All Star team and I really don't think he should this year.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 02:17 AM) Dellucci, if someone wants to take on the rest of his deal Byrd possibly Betancourt and Lee I could also see both Hafner and VMart, but those are much less likely. It's just hard for the Indians to justify trading quite a few of their players. It wouldn't shock me at all it the Cubs, not being able to put together a package for CC, went after Byrd.

Joe Buck isn't near the broadcaster his father was.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 08:48 AM) Jim "Catfish" Hunter Bob "Rapid Robert" Feller "Sudden" Sam McDowell Walter "the Big Train" Johnson Juan Marichal - the Dominican Dandy Nice.

We face Lee and Sabathia, then have Oakland's solid pitching staff coming in for 4 games. I'm kinda concerned about the next six games.

These guys were all pitchers. Who are they? Catfish Rapid Robert Sudden Sam Big Train Dominican Dandy Google not allowed.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) What do these baseball men have in common? Bobby Cox Gene Michael Joe Pepitone Rocky Colavito Dick Howser Mel Stottlemyer Jim Bouton Al Downing I know at least two of the above have written books, so I'm going to guess and say that they all have.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) Can you tell me more (without posting a huge link that I don't have time to read - I need the cliff notes version... ) If it does destroy the Earth, who'll complain?

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) I'm sure any minor league baseball player can attest to the fact that the women are just as plentiful and available. You should see the "ho train" that shows up every night at the Barons games. In fact, I think most of the players keep on playing just for that alone. The priorities are 1. women 2. trying to make it 3. the love of the game. I missed my true calling in life.

If you look at the two trades with the D'backs as one, you have Viscaino, El Duque, Young and Carter for Vasquez and Quentin. Not too shabby.
-
If you could improve this team, how would you do it?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) Spring Training BA has you fooled, like alot of other people. He's just not that good of a hitter to be an everyday player. Spring training has nothing to do with it. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) Gavin, time to get your head out of your tail and end this dead arm period or whatever it's been for you lately. Have a day G. Floyd. I hope that's all it is.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) That wasn't the case in 2003. We had 7 games vs. the Twins down the stretch run. We went 2-5 and lost the division by 4 games. You know, I really didn't need to be reminded of that.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 03:46 PM) With the emergence of Swisher, Thome's turned himself into a jokester. How weird is that? Plus, I'm worried that they'll hurt each other in that dugout doing the jumping celebrations...lol. Did you see Swish yesterday? He got knocked back 5 feet after jumping to celebrate with Thome. That would suck big time. Kinda like Buehrle sliding on the tarp.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) I don't think I have ever laughed during an episode of Seinfeld. I find the show to be downright horrible, and have to change the channel immediately whenever it comes on. I seriously have no idea why so many people think it is so funny, but there must be something to it. And no, I didn't do a list, so it wasn't me who left it off. I didn't submit a list, but Seinfeld would not have been on mine. I tried on several occasions to watch that show and it just never did a thing for me. I'm not going to go into reasons I didn't care for the show because it was such a highly respected show and I don't want to get into defending my point of view with 8,000 Seinfeld fans. So I'll just leave it at I didn't like the show and couldn't sit and watch it.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 02:31 PM) Geez, you'd think Paulie is 37-38 based on some of these posts. The guy is 32, and to assume he will never be anything more than a very mediocre power hitter, especially in the following 3 or 4 years, is crazy. Will he be anything more than a very mediocre power hitter? I don't know, I can't see the future. But I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt due to his baseball knowledge and his career success. Ya think?

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) Hopefully we can bury Cleveland starting tonight while Detroit and the Twins beat up on each other. That sounds like a plan to me.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) Alexei Ramirez too... although I wouldn't put him at catcher, he might literally die. LMAO ... I agree. Alexei at catcher may prove to be fatal.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) I respect the Twins too. Which only makes me hate them more, actually. I can relate to that.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) I would be happy to give OC a 3 year deal worth a substantial amount of money. You leave Alexi at 2B and if Beckham develops as advertised you can consider moving OC in the final year of his contract. Agreed. I'm just not sure that OC would be willing. Though things have been better as of late, I'm not sure OC wants to play through the cold Aprils.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) He can also play a bit of the outfield. Just a really really solid player and I think he's one of those guys that will make his way through the minors unknown and than just all of a sudden appear and play well at the major league level (which will leave a lot of people going, who is this guy and where did he come from). Though I haven't seen Getz play yet, I have kept an eye on his progress and I believe he'd be more of an asset with the big club right now than Ozuna is. I appreciate what Ozuna has done for the club but I think his time has passed.
