QUOTE (DumpJerry @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) Uh oh! What happens then? I have to pay? You get a cake at 100 posts. You have to pay at 8.

QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) The cost would be too high anyways. We've got Linebrink and Dotel dominating in the 7th and 8th innings for the most part, so all we need is a good RHP (or even a LHP because Logan and Thornton have been struggling) who can come in a bit earlier than that. Someone like a Heath Bell or a John Grabow for example, who would come a lot cheaper. Good point. One that I forgot to mention. Street's cost does not equal value right now, as Jason mentioned earlier.

QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 02:07 PM) Except that the bullpen hasn't been "the best" over the past 3-4 weeks. You can never have enough good arms for the pen IMHO. Getting a RHP who's an upgrade over Russell, Masset, Carrasco etc. should be a priority IMHO if the price is right. Yes, but recent scouting reports indicate that Street may not be much of an upgrade. Reduced velocity and arm angle issues being mentioned.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) This move would make no sense unless we were immediately flipping Street for a starting pitcher. We have the best bullpen in baseball and a starting staff that needs some rest, Javy appears to have a dead arm, Floyd and Danks will hit the their career highs in IP, JC is starting to slink back into 07 form. We need another starter to provide some depth and take some pressure off of the rest of the staff and allow the team to handle Danks and Floyd more cautiously. No sense in adding a piece to the strongest unit of the team at this point. If adding to the bullpen is the best you can do to improve a pitching staff that may be starting to falter a bit, I'm all for it on that level. That being said, I'm not all that convinced Street is a good option at this point. In other words, while I may disagree with you reasoning ... ie, adding a piece to the strongest unit not making sense ... I don't believe the current version of Street is much of an addition.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) All highlighted players were important parts of the World Series team, characterizing them as "whatever" moves does them quite a disservice. Also, a deadline deal for another player that helped win the world series was Esteban Loaiza for Jose Contreras in the last hour before the deadline. The characterazation Roberts as a 'superstar' is a stretch in the other direction as far as I'm concerned.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) As stated, I never boo a player at a game,, its disresectful. My "inernal" boo is the feeling that a once proud baseball player is over the perverbial hill and is eating away a ton of salary. Thank him for the wonderful contributions, remember the moments and send him on his way. Well, disrespectful is a good word to express my point of view too. As far as I'm concerned, you've expressed which side of the fence you stand. Good enough.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 08:30 AM) The strange thing is that they said he was going to be fine if he was drafted into the NFL, but then they reneged and told him they needed him anyways, and waited until the first day of training camp to do so. If they wanted him, they should have just said so, and not let him get drafted and wait until training camp to come get him That's the military for you. Someone makes a decision, then gets overruled by a superior officer. Hence, the expression that the term military intelligence is an oxymoron. But that's always been been part of the equation.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) Now if there is a raw arm the Sox like or that extra cash is going to signing some international FA than maybe I could see it (or if Uribe has told them internally that he wants out and wants to go to a team where he'll play more). But talent for talent...Uribe > Cora and this is coming from someone who likes Alex Cora a lot (very solid bench player). If there is a raw arm in addition to Cora, that's different than for Cora straight up. If Uribe wants to move to where he can play more somewhere else, he can wait till next year. We're in a pennant race, and this isn't time to intentionally weaken your team to make someone feel better.
-
Well Jimbo's ... which is it? Do you boo your brains out or are they internal boos? Because in my opinion that's the crux of the discussion and you can't take both sides. In my opinion, if you boo your brains out for someone that has contributed as much to the fanchise as Konerko has over the years, then you are being a jerk. If you keep your boos internal, whatever the hell that means, then you are showing him the respect and appreciation for a productive career that he deserves. Pick which side of the fence you are standing on.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) It wouldn't make sense unless financially the Sox needed to (as in they are up against the budget or something). And I couldn't see approximately 1/3 of Uribe's annual salary being a financial boondoggle to Sox. So from my point of view, Uribe for Cora just doesn't make any sense what-so-ever.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 07:39 AM) Not to mention free health care for all! Who needs their freedoms, right?
-
QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 06:57 AM) the only way uribe for cora is remotely acceptable is if it is the first domino. If it's Uribe for Cora, straight up, even the first domino bit doesn't compute.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 05:39 AM) oh yeah, and wtf is the story with Caleb Campbell? The army isn't letting him play? I'm all for the army and getting all the soldiers you need, but that's just such bulls***...what better way is there to advertise than letting one of your own go on to the public stage and be a walking advertisement for the army? It would just also be great if the army would allow people to leave if they were able to land another job that paid significantly more (perhaps 5 or 10 times more) and required said person to donate a certain amount of their paycheck to the army, or something along the lines. Perhaps it's slightly the wrong forum, but it's frustrating to see something like this. It's a volunteer military. Campbell signed his name on that piece of paper knowing full well the Army would call all the shots. Why should the Army provide him a West Point education and then just let him walk away, or receive special treatment?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 12:59 AM) So him helping us win the World Series 3 years ago gives him a free pass to suck forever? Don't take this wrong, I love Paulie and I root for him hardcore. His grand slam in game 2 was probably the greatest moment in my life to date, but this is 2008, not 2005. We want to add another one of those trophy things and some more of those shiny rings and he certainly isn't helping the cause this year. No, it doesn't give him a free pass to suck forever. And he knows that he can't continue to suck and expect to remain with the Sox. It should, however, entitle him to certain amount of respect and appreciation. He's been a solid ballplayer on the Sox for a lot of years, and as Walker said he was a big part of that 2005 season. Booing Paul Konerko is idiotic.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 04:10 PM) Why isn't it? He said the outdoor game wasn't official when everyone knew it was going to happen, and now they set up the rink in the outfield the same way my picture showed and now he's saying it isn't official. It's been said that the rink could be shifted once they check out sight angles and TV camera angles. Makes sense to me.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 12:44 AM) Great quote by Walker on booing of Paulie. I'm glad I would never be so stupid as to boo a guy that made me so happy a couple years earlier. Stupid stupid people to boo Paul Konerko. Sign of the times. What have you done for me lately? Sick sick fans to boo him. Dumbasses. I concur.

From Mike Downey of the Trib: Mike must be hanging around Soxtalk lately.

QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 09:38 AM) Francisco Liriano pitched last night against Toledo (From what I understand, one of the better hitting International League teams) 7IP, 0R, 2H, 2BB, 10K 99 pitches, 61 strikes I think he needs more seasoning down there What do you bet that he starts against the Sox next week?

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) The Veteran's Committee is not going to care. Oh I disagree ... I think the veteran's committee will very much care considering it is made up of HOF'ers who did it the right way.

A beanball, by definition, is a ball to the head. If you say someone should be beaned, you are saying you should throw at his head. If that's not not what you mean, use different terminology.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) I stand by my statement. Any true White Sox fan that boos Paulie is a jackass. He is somebody with no clue about PERSPECTIVE. I'd love to hear some more takes on this. I will never change my mind about this one. Be a tough guy and boo Paulie; by doing so you have proven you know nothing about White Sox tradition. I think you are little on the harsh side, but I agree with your basic premise.
-
Ten years from now, would you boo Paulie if he walked out to the mound to throw out the first pitch? I wouldn't, and I wouldn't boo him today.
-
Pablo had a good run with the Sox, and he may catch on elsewhere but personally I think he's done. Thanks for the memories Pablo.

All this talk about longevity is really a coin flip with Mark. Don Sutton is in, I believe. Tommy John is not. In my opinion, TJ was a better pitcher than Mark. And yes, I'm a big fan of Mark Buehrle. I just don't he'll make the hall.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) How many 3B have the Sox even had between Ventura leaving in 1999 and Crede becoming the starter in 2003? It's not like we're talking about the best 3B this team has seen in decades. Didn't say we were. Robin was by far the best we saw for decades. But take a look at the Mets for example, they went decades without finding a good 3B. Crede's not God's gift, but he's a pretty damn solid 3B.
