Fox won the MVP in '59, not '58.

I had to go with Frank too.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) I believe that was Magikist Carpets. . . "Call Buchelle at: [insert Deep Voice here] Hudson3-2700" Why the hell is that still stuck in my head after all these years? It's been stuck in my head for years as well. And yes, the very deep voice also.

Ok, someone remind me ... it's been a few years. Who's number was Hudson3-2700?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) Never going to happen. Williams and Reinsdorf are not going to give 7-8 years to a starter, seeing as how it's NEVER worked out. And they shouldn't.

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) Scotty Erye DFA'd Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) Yas relax, I wasnt cracking jokes. It was making fun of Offman not any disrespect to Caray. Most would see that. I realized what you attempting to do. Yet, it somehow didn't seem appropriate in my opinion. But, that's just my opinion and it doesn't amount to a whole hell of a lot.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) I realize that the pattern is there, but can you really link it to the attention from the press being off the players and onto Ozzie?? Maybe, it's just like at all of our jobs, when the boss is pissed, everyone knows it and everyone walks on eggshells and kicks their game up a notch. Does the reasoning matter? It seems if the results are there, that's what really matters.

QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 12:12 PM) I believe Hall caught at least one of those games-and gave up on pitching inside-which was successful for him Hall or AJ ... doesn't make my point any less appropriate.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 11:21 AM) The question is, how long has his back hurt this year. This is a guy on the verge of a big payday. I would say that for that kind of payday, people could deal with a lot of discomfort. To me the drop off from his hot start with the bat, and the amount of errors on simple plays is a bit concerning. Look at how he works. He can make the spectacular plays. The ones he reacts to. The ones that take time, and allow him to think cause him issues this year. These are the types where he has to bend over quite a bit or follow through on the throw. Sailing a throw and not following through is something that screams the back. If you look at his fielding issues, there were he has to bend over with the ball in front of him. It takes him a bit to do that. Normally you bend you knees, level to the ball and make the play. He is trying to bend over without bending his knees. I dont know if a doctor will get near him until he signs his FA deal. In my opinion, that is one fantastic analysis.

QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 08:35 PM) It's really a shame. They should be 4 games up on the cubs. Who would you like to see replace Yost? Robin Yount?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) Indeed. Without numbers to back me up I would assume we have had one of the worst pitching staffs in the league in the last 3 weeks or so. It hasn't been pretty.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 11:45 PM) I do not think Richard is a lost cause at all, and even though developmentally it would be best for him to go work on what hurt him up here down in AAA, he can absolutely get out Major League hitters. As a matter of fact, I think some coaching could potentially fix his problems. Today he couldn't locate, leaving lots of pitches over the plate. For some reason, many young pitchers start throwing only fastballs when they start to get hit. I have experienced this personally, there is no sound thought process to this happening but you could see it he becomes a one pitch pitcher, sometimes even when he is doing well. An emphasis on locating and changing up pitch sequences could go a long way for Clayton, no need to give up on him in the long term. As far as Poreda, it would be very interesting to see him get a start with the big league club while the Count tries to solve AAA hitters. He certainly has the fastball and I'm curious to see how his other offerings have progressed. If he succeeds, he could become an asset in the pen as the long man and perhaps a fill-in if Jose completely implodes or another starter goes down for some reason. However, I would not let him take multiple shellackings like we have with Richard, because sending him to the big club could very well cripple his development if not handled delicately. I agree that Richard is not a lost cause. But if he became a one-pitch pitcher, then that's on AJ and Ozzie. A rookie pitcher should never be able to shake off a veteran Major League catcher. Never.

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) Bruce Levine thinks the Sox should/will sign Livan Hernandez. He's got lots of big-game experience, but has been getting hit hard this season. Personally, I don't think he's got anything left in the tank. I thought about this possibilty when I heard he had been released. I'm not sure what I think though. Livan can be a long reliever and emergency starter, with Contreras' situation it may not be a bad idea. The guy does have 10 wins this year, but he has been beat up lately. Richard may be a better answer when it comes to filling that role.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) I wouldn't bet on it. But he might. Nicely done.

Don't let this escalate, guys. JUST. WALK. AWAY.

With Jose on the DL, a recruiting trip would not be a bad idea.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 05:00 AM) I'm ready to go on a full fledged assault on the media in regards to the "Sox" debate. I know Yas has mentioned it before, and I've mentioned it several times, but honestly, truthfully, and even brutally, name me the only team that mentions only "Sox" on their uniform. In the same regard, name me the only "Sox" team that mentions the color on their uniform; in the same regard, name me the other "Sox" team and let me know when and how they mention their color ever on their jerseys. It's absolute f***ing bulls*** that the Red Sox are the "Sox" when, in fact, they have "Red Sox" on their uniform, and the White Sox rarely, if ever, have "White Sox" on their uniform, and roughly 99% of the time have JUST "SOX" on their uniform and their hat. Apparently the east coast bias is stupid and bulls*** and (adjective) and (adjective) and (adjective) and (adjective) and whatever the f*** else. I hope the Sox win it again this year and the next year and hopefully Fenway is blown to bits and the Red Sox become the Boston ESPN's so then there is only one Sox. Extreme? Sure, I'm drunk. It seems reasonable enough though. Simply put ...

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 09:11 AM) You should get more worked up. He's at his best when he gets worked up, because he makes damn good points and backs them up.

At this point, it seems nobody else is on the move.

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) By the way the Red Sox prospects are Brandon Moss, Craig Hansen Pitt did actually good looking at this right now So the Pirates traded Nady, Marte and Bay for a slew of minor leaguers. And they'll trade these guys in 3 years for more more kids. Typical of the Pirates.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) Good idea YAS! I'll probably be flying back there in the next month or two. I've been around the block a few times.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) Which is fine. There are some that are saying stupid things. Even keel, for me, is just about right. It gives us options we didn't have... and there's good and bad elements to it. That's how you roll the dice. That's the way I see it. Not giddy about, but hopeful it works out.
