  1. Just listen to James Earl Jones remarks in 'Field of Dreams" ... that about sums it up.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 09:30 PM) I love baseball because... Sometimes Hawk brings it up, but it was designed so perfectly. 90 feet was perfect for the base-paths. Imagine how many of those bang-bang plays would be clear outs if they were longer or how many guys would clearly be safe if they were shorter. Imagine- guys would be throwing 105 mph if the mound was 55-58 feet from home. It's a beautiful game. Just ask Gerald Early, who made this quote famous, and so it's one of my favorite quotes of all time. Check my signature. Edit: It's been there for quite awhile.
  3. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 07:47 AM) Hey, at least he wasnt Dan Uggla yeah ... that wasn't pretty at all. Poor guy had a tough night on the national stage.
  4. Joe Crede is best the best 3B this team has seen since Robin Ventura. Good 3B's don't grow on trees. If we can keep him, we need to ... even with the uncharacteristic defensive lapses he'd had this year.
  5. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 03:58 AM) speaking of the ASG, quentin was terrible Carlos had a few chances to be the hero, but didn't get it done.
  6. Greg Maddux, with a legitimate steal of 2B last night, became the oldest pitcher in ML history to steal a base.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 10:20 PM) Bobby Murcer passed away; his comeback to the booth from a brain tumor was pretty courageous. I don't have much else to add other than RIP. I remember when he came up with the Yankees, he was supposed to be the next Mickey Mantle. Didn't quite work out that way but he was still a pretty decent ballplayer. RIP Bobby.
  8. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 08:19 AM) First off, no way to keep it private for very long. So you just have to deal with that. I'd make certain my parents and kids were taken care of. I'd buy a round of virtual drinks for my virtual friends A 45' ish sailboat, something I could single hand or made easier with one other Crew member. Adios for a couple years. Virtual drinks? Oh hell no! ... You'd be flying me into South Padre Island and ahowing me a damn good time. At least, you better!

    Whiffle Ball

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) If you're talking about what we called "pickle," then yes. That game was awesome. I dominated... How about Smear the Queer? We used to play that a bit, but I never realized how politically incorrect that name is. haha Seriously though, I love what this thread has turned into. Brings back a lot of great memories. I'm only 20 but I played all these games (ghosts in the graveyard, kick the can, etc.), but I feel like kids even a few years younger than me did not. Truthfully, I feel really fortunate to have those experiences b/c I don't think kids play these games anymore. Or maybe I just don't know it b/c I live in an older neighborhood now and there are about zero kids. Smear the Queer. We used to call that "Kill the guy with the ball". It was usually a football.
  10. I always liked Tony Snow. This saddens me.
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) Cowley pitched 9 innings. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CA...198609190.shtml Ok. I know where I screwed up here now. Who was it? Andy Hawkins of the Yankees that lost an 8 inning no-hitter at Old Comiskey ... Seems like Ozzie hit one to left the was an error with bases loaded and 3 scored on the play. That was the game I thinking of.

    Nine Y/O heroine

Ok, that was a nice little article. Not bad at all, but ... and this is informative purposes only, and not to be taken as criticism, this should have been posted in the SLaM forum and not in Pale Hose Talk.
  13. I've been following this thread from the start, and haven't chimed in (that I recall). That should tell you plenty about my feelings about it.
  14. Excellent work, Gregory. I just sent in my list of 25 favorite Sox players. Sad to say, I forgot about Black Jack. He should've been on there.
  15. Cowley crossed my mind, but because 8 inning ho-hitters don't count anymore I dismissed that thought.

    Whiffle Ball

I think the expression was supposed to be "All-eee All-eee All in free" ... but it got corrupted to Ocean free and Oxen free where I grew up because kids just said things like that when they weren't sure what to say.
  17. The last manager traded is that guy now on the north side. Can't recall his name at the moment.
  18. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 08:44 AM) with out a doubt....i love joe, but he is one of the most overrated players in sox history No disrespect from me toward Joe. Just consider it a measure of my respect for Robin.
  19. I'd also put Horlen and Gary Peters in the rotation over Seaver and Wilhelm. Seaver wasn't a White Sox long enough. Wilhelm, I'd list in the bullpen. As a great as Dick Allen was for the Sox, his days as a 3B were behind him. Ventura would be my starter.
  20. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) Didn't Rollie Fingers do the fake IBB v. Johnny Bench in the 1972 series? That's correct.
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 02:34 PM) Why would you even post this? They ALWAYS come back at home. JINX! 10-7 now
  22. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) The team that scares me the most on paper is the Tigers. The team that defies logic year after year and will hang on til the bitter end will be the Twins. Book it. Yep. I'm with you on this one.
  23. Name the manager: The Lip The Hat Called for a fake intentional walk on a 3-2 count in the World Series Traded for Manny Sanguillen Last manager traded Edit: This is 5 different managers.
