QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) Oh crap, forgot to add... Even if you don't stay at the Peabody, make sure to stop in the lobby bar and have a drink. The feel is great. Have a mint julip or something similarly southern. And try to catch the Ducks show. Its hilarious. Been there, done that and yes it was definitely cool. The bar and the ducks, both.
  3. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) Wow, after saying you weren't going to dignify me with a response, you take a shot at me in a completely different thread? Was that you?
  4. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) 14, meanwhile he has 11 hits out of 32 chances against Verlander. This is a stupid line-up versus a guy that we usually have on a leash. Hopefully we don't let him off it. Oh c'mon. The guy caught 14 innings last night.
  5. QUOTE (beck72 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) I think it's also a matter of keeping fresh. Both guys have had some days off [which Swish has needed more than PK, who was off during his injury]. Rotating PK, Swish, Dye, Thome and Griff during the heat of August may see some dividends in Sept. with everyone being stronger. But we traded pitching for a one-dimensional player. How stupid is that? (think green)
  6. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 11:13 AM) Could be the biggest outing for Danks yet because he has to give the team 7-8 innings tonight with the depleted bullpen. He hasn't done that very often, so keep the ball low, especially the changeup and pitch to contact. Bust the hitters inside and please don't let Polanco beat us, he is the most unathletic looking thing out there. He looks like a rolly polly. Yes, but he's a damn good ballplayer. I wanted him on the Sox when the Tigers got him.
  7. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 11:10 AM) Danks needs to go 7 strong.... Hopefully the offense attacks Verlander once again.. if we get to there bullpen by the 5th or 6th inning, we should win this. Hopefully Uribe is back at 3rd. I love our current infield, esspecially with Swish at 1b, im guessing he will be back at 1st today. He should be with Paulie's history against Verlander.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) This thread has been opened and closed more times than Paris's legs... I didn't know those legs ever closed.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) This is awesome. His Real Sports story on HBO is amazing. http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/summer08/news/story?id=3521480 Couldn't they find a real red blooded American to carry the flag? No ... I'm totally kidding. This is so very cool. This is what this nation is all about.
  10. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) Depends on the price though with Uribe. Defensively he gives you everything you want with an utility man, but he may want to start elsewhere, and the Sox may give Getz that chance to take over. That may be the case, but Getz is an unknown quantity as far as being a ML ballplayer. Uribe does have some proven qualities and would not kill a team if he had to fill in for an injured infielder for 2 or 3 weeks.
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) I don't even post in the game threads, but I feel I should say this. At least the people in the game threads are posting about the team. It seems that all of your posts are just complaints about the current state of Soxtalk and the majority of posters on it. I will not even dignify this with response.
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 10:11 AM) I might be in the minority here, but after this season I never want to see Uribe in a White Sox uniform ever again. Uribe is very valuable as a utility man. I don't want him starting, but he has a place in MLB and I wouldn't mind it if he stayed with the Sox.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) This is absolutely true. I am generally known (accurately) as a negative poster, and even I try to avoid most game threads due to the negativity. We have a first place team that was picked to be a fourth place team, and yet we still have oppresive negativity in the game threads. It's unreal. I just cannot understand the way some so-called fans think. Oh, and let me add ... we are in first place and it's now August.
  14. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 08:13 AM) last night reminded me while i generally avoid gamethreads. i can understand negativity when the team is playing poorly but some of the crap early in that thread is downright absurd. Couldn't agree more. Games threads are generally no longer enjoyable.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 08:25 AM) Surprised nobody has mentioned Harold Baines yet...he was a favorite of most Sox fans of the "80's generation." Harold more than likely won't make the Hall. The 'Greatest White Sox' should be a HOF'er. In my opinion, Aparicio's not getting enough love.
  16. The US cycling team showed up in Beijing wearing doctor's type masks. Not exactly the way to overcome the 'ugly American' stereotype.
  17. It seems to be taken for granted that Uribe won't be back next year. I think he will be.
  18. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 12:41 AM) I gotcha btw.. I hope my comments didnt come off as bitter or anything. I dont want to start something. I respect your team...its just that...oooh first place tasted nice and Nick Swisher hits a HR when you really needed one. It just seems to happens a lot You've always been respectful here. I don't think anyone that's been here awhile would misinterpret that post.
  19. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) I still don't think the Cubs do much in the playoffs. Their middle relief blows. The Brewers, Phillies, Mets can all beat them in a series. But then that's if the Cubs aren't hot, if they are hot, they could waltz through like the '05 Sox. The Brewers? The same Brewers that the Cubs just swept 4 games from in Milwaukee? Those Brewers?
  20. Good thread. It brought back some wonderful memories. As soon as the last snow melted till we went back to school, it was pretty much baseball at every opportunity.
  21. I have to disagree with your whole premise, LasMedias. In fact, I'd say Ozzie's abilities with the personalities of his players, and the media are two of his strong points.
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Good news? We are going to be counting the innings for Ozzie's return is Cora is at the helm. Didn't he screw up a game last year when ozzie was suspended? Time to bring Buddy Bell to Chicago.
  23. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) Couldn't have expected better. Of course, The suspended Royals will probably sit out vs. The Twins.
