  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 08:52 AM) Probably the attitude considering how quickly he got benched. The Sox are really high on Buddy Bell, as is a lot of MLB. This is Bell's first full season with the organization. It wouldn't surprise be if Buddy cleans house after this season.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 08:50 AM) I think something completely different 3. He lapsed back into old habits, techiniques, and forms. If that's the case, either the coaching or the attitude have to be questioned.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) I have strong doubts about Fields' future in the organization. They just don't like him at all. Ozzie said something that raised some questions in my mind. He said that Cora had worked with Fields on his defense in spring training, as he was not seeing those results now. So, here are my questions. 1. Does this signal a Fields attitude problem? 2. Is there a lack of coaching going on in Charlotte? Call it a hunch, but I'd be more inclined to lean toward #2.
  4. I have to ask ... does the Star Spangled Banner ever have more meaning to you than when it's played at the Olympics?
  5. Fox should have been higher on the list, but I'm not even sure I voted for him as I don't actually remember him before his time with the Colt 45's.
  6. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:39 PM) As am I. I tried to like Belle, but got a first-hand glimpse of what a selfish jerk he was. Back during the '98 season, I vacationed in Toronto with my family and we caught a couple of Sox games in the SkyDome. After the first game, Belle was waiting around in a chair in the lobby by himself. A kid who couldn't have been more than 10 or 12 walked up to him and asked for an autograph. He refused. Contrast that with Frank taking 10 seconds to sign my sister's jersey while literally running out the door. Or Ray Durham talking to my family at the hotel bar for a good 10 minutes. Or Herm Schneider talking to my family for a good 30 minutes. Belle was good, but not great in '97. He started off slow in '98 and then went on an absolute tear, resulting in the greatest single-player offensive season in Sox history. But the Sox didn't go anywhere with him and he left town for more money after that. And he was a jackass, to boot. JMO, but I don't see how he could be a "favorite" player. I'll take Juan Uribe over Albert Belle any day. Yes, he went on a tear after the Sox were pretty much out of it. Not really what makes a qualify as one of my favorites.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 01:08 AM) That nice writeup made me feel good about Juan. Great writeup. That write up was fabulous, and perfectly defines Juan's place in Whie Sox history. Excellent work.
  8. I liked Chet Lemon and all. He was a good ballplayer, but honestly ... and I'm not trying to be negative here, just stating a fact ... the thing I remember most about Chet Lemon was his baserunning gaffes.
  9. QUOTE (Cubano @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 05:50 PM) English is not my primary language. Therefore, I will make spelling mistakes quite often. Even though I may know the spelling of any given word, many times nonnative speakers will make mistakes. I won't check the spelling every time I post a message. I'll go crazy. By the way, I did not appreciate you joke. Cubano, I wouldn't be quite so touchy on this subject. We all make typo, spelling and/or grammar mistakes and at times it leads to an opportunity for someone to make a clever retort. That's what I feel happened here. He wasn't picking you, so to speak. It's just that he couldn't pass up the Y. A. Tittle reference for the simple reason that the opportunity was there. I'd be willing to bet that the reference would have been made regardless of who made the post.
  10. That reinforced every stereotype I ever had about Cub fans.
  11. QUOTE (Felix @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 11:08 AM) It's a sad, sad thing that Pablo is on the list. Oh no. Not another one. *rolleyes*
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 10:25 PM) Well then you're f***ed in the Heads22. And I get the idea of the list... my favorite was AJ Pierzynski. He, however, has been a regular starter for years and a key member of the 05 Championship team, not a backup who never lived up to his hype. Might as well put Joe Borchard... I mean, he even compares him to Aaron Rowand, who had better be #1 on his list if emulating Rowand was worthy of #2 or else it's just stupid. EDIT: This does not mean I dislike Alex, he and I get along great, but BA #2 I had to call that out. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) I can tell you all one thing, I'm sure not gaining any fans in this thread. I'll drop it. Although Sonic, I think you can find better words than "retarded" to use on the message boards. What is this, 2nd grade recess? Exactly! We can't have anybody saying anything insulting now can we?
  13. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 06:42 PM) Blackhawk fans becoming civilized? Sad that the NFL has such a crummy product that only drunken brawlers will come to games or the only way to enjoy a NFL game is to get intoxicated. It's not that, Texsox. If your team is sucking, you have to drink. If they are playing well, you want to celebrate.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) I wonder if this guy is a redneck? Does Maine produce rednecks?
  15. First time I've been in the 'Buster in months, but when I saw 'YASNY' in the thread title .... well, you know.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) I always thought an American was a citizen of the United States of America. That will serve as a technically correct definition. That's about it, though.
  17. By the way, Bob, welcome to Soxtalk. That was a very impressive entry onto the board. As to the question at hand, I can't remember how I got started loving baseball because I cannot remember a time when it wasn't a huge part of my life. I started playing organized ball at age 7 in what was called the Khoury League, which is still in existance today. I wanted to be a thirdbaseman because Pete Ward was my favorite. Of course, I don't think I ever played 3rd in all the years I played organized ball as I just didn't have the arm for it. Standing in the on deck circle before my first ever at bat, I was very confidant. I just knew I was going to smack that ball. That was until I stepped into the box and saw that this guy wasn't lobbing them in like my dad did. That very first fastball was an eye opener, that's for sure.
  18. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 07:07 PM) In 1967 the Sox gave the Yankees a run for their money with the big 3 pitching of Gary Peters , Tommy John and Joel Horlen. The Red Sox did too, considering they won the '67 pennant. In fact, the Yankees weren't really a factor.
  19. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) So would a team have to give up a draft pick to sign Uribe if he was a "B" free agent, because I'm assuming they would, and that'll probably scare off a few teams to say the least. It's borderline right now, if what I've seen is accurate. In fact, Uribe was rated above Crede.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) hey Javy's pitching...Javy if you see this ILOVEYOU and prease remind me to stop posting so much when I'm drunk You maintain that 90% win percentage, you can post however drunk you are.
  21. "Brett Favre, what are you doing here?"
  22. QUOTE (lord chas @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) And for people to spell his name right Touche'
  23. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) Not so surprisingly I love catching for that reason, getting into the other team's heads. AJ is about as good as anyone at that, and you have to be thinking and even tempered to do it or else it backfires and they just owned space in your head. I hated AJ as a Twin. I love him as a White Sox. He's one of those guys that you hate unless he's one your team. The best example of another athlete that I can come up with is Dino Cicarelli who used to play for the Minnesota North Stars. I hated the guy, but I would have loved him if he was on the Blackhawks.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) Then how do you measure it? Sure, many more line drivers and sharp grounders down the line would probably fall and roll, but Blake makes less errors. I'm sure if you use that range factor stat that Crede is better in the field, though. You use your eyes, man. Stats only tell part of the story.
  25. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) lostfan, That article leaves out the most important part: Prior to the draft Farve wanted to see if the Packers wanted him back. The Packers made it clear they did not. Farve at first thought he could live with not playing football and being run out by the Packers. Eventually he realized he was not going to let them run him out of football. /shrugs A player of Brett Farve's calibre has every right to make that decision.
