QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) Top the 12, 3-3 -------- Johnson was in the bottom of the 10th, when Hernandez caught the tipped bunt attempt by Anderson and got Quentin off on 3rd. Then at the top of the 11th, Hernandez hit a homer off of Linebrink, Sherrill came in Bottom of 11th and Uribe hit a homer. So they are through 11 innings, 3-3 tie. thats what happened in the 10th and 11th, just a little refresher Thank you.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) Exactly. I was disappointed the Sox did not end up playing the Yankees (and Cardinals to a lesser extent) in 2005 postseason. It was a little muted but some outlets insinuated the Sox lucked out by the Angels taking care of the Yankees. I wanted the Sox to knock off all the so-called baseball royalty along the way. As did I. I also wanted the Sox to clinch something, anything at home. But I'll take 2005 just as it happened with no complaints.

Wow what a game. Argentina by 2 as Greece misses a last second 3 attempt. Argentina vs USA in the semi finals. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) Those Kenyan distance runners need a few Italian Beef/Sausage Combos. I really REALLY miss those things.

Great game between Argentina and Greece in mens hoops going on right now. -
What was the situation when this game was suspended ... like inning, score, etc.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 06:17 PM) Probably let the managers decide since both teams are without their pitchers. The managers always can decide. It's just a matter of replacing a pitcher, when a manager can do at any time during any game.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 10:10 AM) And after the Toronto series a few months ago, KW needed to get a new offense. Ozzie speak should never be taken at 100 percent face value. Nor should Kenny, for that matter.
-
QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 09:21 AM) I cannot fathom that... We'd need to win the division because home field would be huge.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 08:05 AM) If you think about it, whatelse is Ozzie going to say? He HAS to show faith in Uribe, because he is the guy who is HERE and who has been doing a damned good job playing 3B in Crede's extended absence. He doesn't even know if he is going to be getting back Crede, let alone THE Joe Crede. Uribe has to be his man right now for the rest of the season, unless Joe proves otherwise. Ozzie's always said he worries about the 25 guys that are 'here' and not the ones that aren't. But then again, he talking wistfully about Linebrink a couple of days ago.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 12:05 PM) Maybe Crede and Orlando are both leery of getting injured/re-injured or lots of contact in light of their pending Free Agency? If that was the case, I think I would designate OC for assigment right now if not for the fact that Ramirez, Uribe or Getz would be hitting leadoff and we'd lose the draft picks. OC's been good with the stick, but he's not what was advertised at short.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 10:07 AM) He did not play for the White Sox. He nearly signed with the White Sox after being waived by the Athletics because he went off on Finley, but chose the Red Sox instead. I didn't think he did. But guys come and go sometimes (no juvenile comments needed ) and you forget some of them. -
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 09:12 AM) I think it depends on the defensive positioning based on a right handed pull hitter. I personally think that Cabrerra is afraid of any sort of contact around the bag. Watch him on any DP attempt he flies up in the air and out of the way even if hte player is not coming hard. On throws in and steal attempts, he is nowhere near the bag and is reaching to make the tag. He is a tad below average if you ask me. That's a great observation and one that I wholeheartedly agree with.

I saw where someone listed Ken Harrelson. Did Hawk play for the White Sox? If so, I damn sure don't remember it. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) The most incredible thing about the 2005 White Sox is they were dominant without being dominant. They won 99 regular season games, led wire to wire from game 1 to game 162 on their way to beating out a very good Indians team for the division title, and went 11-1 in the playoffs on their way to a championship. So in that respect, the Sox were as dominant as any baseball team you will ever find. But at the same time, they played so many close games and won every time they needed to because they always managed to come up with the big play when it was absolutely necessary. I think the World Series was a perfect summary of what the 2005 White Sox were. They were dominant in record, sweeping their opponent, yet all four games were close, and they won in every way possible (extra innings, great starting pitching, offense, bulpen, defense, managing, home runs, fundementals, at home, on the road, in good weather, in bad weather, etc) over that period of games. As an example to emphasize your point, even though the Sox swept the Astros they only outscored them by a total of 6 runs in the 4 games, iirc.

The US boxing team only has won one medal? What the f*** has happened to us? We used to dominate in Olympic boxing? -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) Great post about Allen's line drive being right over the pitcher's head and carrying for a homer. I bet that pitcher still has nightmares as he'd probably be dead if the liner hit him. Can you imagine Allen with an aluminum bat? Pitchers would die. Oh I'm sure it would have been fatal if it hit him in the head. I was 14 or 15 when this happened, but I asked my dad about it recently and he remembered it just like I did. So this wasn't the case of a kid blowing things out of proportion in his mind. When I see that old Bugs Bunny cartoon where the baseball actually screams after it is hit, I always think about this homer by Allen.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 07:59 AM) Bolt's 100 meter final was the single greatest domination of a race since Michael Johnson's 19.32 in the 200 meters in Atlanta. For me, THAT was the preformance of the Olympics. Agreed. For a single event, that was amazing. I can't wait to see his 200M performance. -
QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 12:35 AM) Chicago IS world class, not neccessary. I totally agree with you that Chicago IS a world class city. That's why I used the word "enhance".

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) Out of the 3 teams with the best postseason records, the Sox were the only one to go wire to wire in the regular season as well. I believe the last team, prior to '05, to accomplish that was the '70 Reds.

What do you guys think? Especially all of you in the greater Chicagoland area. Would the 2016 Olympics enhance the city's reputation as as a world class city, or would it be such a hassle that you'd rather it not happen?
