  1. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:14 AM) If something were to happen to him. Our president would be a 44 year old, 2 year Governor from a state with a population of 683,478. And if Obama's elected he will be a first term senator that ran against a joke of an opposing candidate for that position.
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) Weren't there any conservative, strong pro-life females in Congress that have been around for a while? I mean, she practically makes Obama look like an elder statesman. Palin is the ONLY one on either ticket that has any executive experience whatsoever, however minimal it may be.
  3. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:07 AM) Don't forget his plagiarism scandal in 1988. Biden has his challenges, but also his qualities. I'm sure Palin has hers. That was in response to AHB's "Palin scandal" post. I didn't forget the plagarism scandal, I just chose to not mention it.
  4. “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man.” - Joe Biden ""I've had a great relationship [with East Indians in America]. In Delaware, the largest growth in population is Indian Americans - moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I'm not joking." -- Joe Biden, speaking to Indian-Americans. "At the University of Delaware, Biden was 506th out of 688 classmates, and a history professor said he was "trying to be the complete Joe College." In a recommendation for law school, the teacher called Biden average in "intellectual achievement" but high in "command of English language" and recommended him based "on grounds of personality and general promise." Biden ended up 76th out of 85 in his law school class; the law school dean described him as an academic "disappointment" but praised his "confidence," "general physical appearance" and "general speaking ability" in recommending him as a lawyer. "
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 08:41 AM) Totally a political move. Palin: 2 years as Governor, before... mayor of of a town of 7500. THAT'S inexperience at its best. Biden wasn't a political move? The candidate of change picks an old school senator as his VP. McCain, an old school senator, picks a young fresh face as his VP. The experience is on the top of the GOP ticket. Inexperience is on the top of Democratic ticket.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 07:31 AM) It's crazy that the Angels are the only team in the AL with a winning road record...and they are 15 over .500 on the road! What are they doing that the rest of the league is not? Winning on the road!
  7. Well, after thinking about it, there is that line "God shed his grace on thee" with the song. So there is that. But, it's not quite so upfront as God Bless America is.
  8. Personally, I think "America, the Beautiful" should be the national anthem. "The Star Spangled Banner" while being inspirational in it's own way, is still about about war when it comes down to it. "God Bless America", which I have personally have no problem with, still has the religous connotations to it. "America, the Beautiful" has nothing controvesial within its lyrics and highlights some of the finer points about this great land of ours. However, this person should not have been escorted out of the Stadium. That's bulls***.
  9. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Frank Lutz on FNC predicts a 10 point lead by Obama in 72 hours based on the independent voters. I predicted a huge bump for Obama earlier in this thread. It doesn't take a whole lot of political insight to foresee that a great orator on a huge stage is going to have an immediate impact on the polls. The question is, can it be sustained?
  10. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 08:11 AM) ''We wish Jay well and will miss him -- not personally, of course -- but in the sense of noticing he is no longer here, at least for a few days'' http://www.suntimes.com/sports/deluca/1131...eluca28.article Friggin' Hilarious I so enjoyed reading that. Thank you so very much for posting it. Now I can safely go back to the ST website without being exposed that .... ummmm 'journalist's' .... drivel.
  11. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 11:22 AM) Personally I dont understand the problem with any catchall, or long threads. if you dont want to go through all of it, dont. It doesnt detract from any other posting, people still post all relevant sox "talk" and stories in pale hose when the catch all is there. The catch all is like a constant conversation. You certainly don't have to worry about going off topic in those threads.
  12. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) It doesnt matter what you do. No matter what, someone is gonna complain that the thread is too long and they didnt want to go through it all. Which I don't understands at all, because next to each thread there is that little box you can click that takes you to the first unread post.
  13. Graceful as a bull in a china shop. Colder than a well diggers ass.
  14. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) I know you do, I should not have quoted you, it was more a general response to the general comment about idiot Cub fans. I believe it is important to realize how much effort Brooks and Co. make to attract those same idiots to a game on the south side. Get 3,000 of them to every home game and viola' I didn't take offense. It did however, make me realize that I probably should have made it more obvious that I was joking.
  15. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 06:53 AM) IIRC and using the traditional north / south division for Sox and Cub fans, there are probably more GOP Cub fans then Sox fans. So there are probably a lot of Cub fans that never would have voted for him anyway. I would have been less harsh on Cub fans. There are some hard core Cub fans who are just as knowledgable and pay as much attention to their team as Sox fans do ours. Also, those casual, not paying attention fans are the fans the Sox and Cubs marketing plans are competing for each year. They are the swing difference in the attendance gap between both teams. So while we like to make fun of them, if 250,000 decided to attend a Sox game instead of a Cubs, that is a 500,000 swing in attendance. Believe me, I know that there are knowledgable Cub fans. That remark was totally tongue-in-cheek.
  16. I didn't see Bill Clinton's speech but I saw the high points, and I thought he did quite well for Broncobama, I mean Barack Obama. He was much more forceful in his support than Hillary appeared to be. I was able to watch most of Biden's speech, but got interrupted by a phone call. All in all, I thought Biden did well also. I also have no doubt that Obama will knock them out tonight and it will give him a huge bump in the polls. McCain is not the speaker that Obama is by a long shot, and won't be able to turn tide after his acceptance speech. The debates will decide that and we'll just have to see what happens then.

I got an out of left field email from Molto .... I think, telling me about Soxtalk. How the hell he found me and knew I was a Sox fan, I guess I'll never know. But I'm glad it happened. I gotten a lot of enjoyment from this place over the years.
  18. The local radio morning talk show guy here happens to a reasonably knowledgable, baseball-wise, Cubs fan. I work with his wife and she is also pretty sharp on baseball and a Cubs fan. Anyway, this guy says on the air this morning "Six games up with thirty to play. NOW is the time to panic." See, I told you he's knowledgable.
  19. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 01:19 PM) pffffft cubs fan Careful buddy .... Them's fight words.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) His bat isn't the thing that's bothered me. He's put up numbers right in line with his career numbers. It's his defense that's annoyed me. Agreed. He has been soft, as has been mentioned several times. But my response was based on the post that implied he was brought over to bat lead off. That wasn't the case.
  21. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) I hope you're right, for the sake of the country. Well, I'll say this much in response. Obama scares the hell out of me. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him ... and before anybody throws race into the equation ... I gave Obama a legitimate chance early in the primaries. In fact, I despised Hillary and Obama was an unknown in my mind. Today, I'd vote for Hillary in a heartbeat over Obama. That said, I also plan to vote McCain in the general .... BUT!!!!! ... If he actually is a continuation of GWB then we are f***ed either way we go.
  22. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) Hey, sorry, i wasn't trying attack you. I was just confused as to why someone could be a lock to win over the nation when she couldn't even win her party over. I didn't take it as an attack on me. Legit question.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) http://deadspin.com/5042479/thats-it-world...-the-final-time that is such a sweet picture of him Okay then, Obama has something to do with getting Jay Marrioti out of the Chicago sports media. I can't think of a better reason to vote for him. I'm just s***ting you. It ain't happening.
  24. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 12:52 PM) Just like to add, Garland should have nothing to do with the love/hate with Cabrera. The two really have nothing to do with each other. If Cabrera was signed as an FA, I would still dislike him just the same. I will say this. In the Cabrera-Garland trade thread, I said if Cabrera was brought over to lead off for this team, then trading Garland for him was a total mistake and a misuse of resources. I'm too lazy to dig it up, but if someone wants to for me, then go ahead. He wasn't brought over to lead off for this team. He was brought over to bat number 2. He was put into the lead off spot out of necessity and it's worked halfway decently.
  25. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) Why? Because of her speech last night? Because Obama has dropped some points in the polls? I don't really see the reasoning behind that...if she couldn't win the primaries how could she be a lock for the presidency? They hand out the signs...if you look at the Kennedy speech everyone is holding Kennedy signs Why? Because I think Hillary was s*** on by the party and that Obama peaked too soon. I'm not saying I'm right and I'm not saying I'm a political pundit, but it's just my opinion at this point in time.
