  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 19, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) If all players were thrown on the field today, with the talent they possessed/possess at the Major League level, I'd probably take David Eckstein over Honus Wagner. I'm just saying, that dude would've struggled against global competition... Let the beatings begin! That's a valid argument, but it's questionable as well. Ty Cobb used to place buckets throughout the outfield, then hit baseballs INTO them in batting practice. Bigger, faster, stronger is one thing. Great hand - eye coordination is another. A great baseball player is a great baseball player regardless of era.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2008 -> 08:23 AM) I'd do it and figure out a way to get a piece of Sox memorablia involved. I'd go neutral. I wouldn't honor the Cubs, but I wouldn't dishonor the game and greats by pulling in the bickering between fans of the two Chicago teams. I thought about having a Sox hat in my back pocket to put on at the right moment, or something similar. But the game is worthy of more respect in my humble opinion.
  3. If you forget about the Cubs and stop and think about the history, the players that have performed on that field, how can you not want the opportunity to step on the same ground that, for example right field, Babe Ruth, Roberto Clemente, Stan Musial, etc. played on. It would be an honor to step on that field and walk in the same footsteps as the all time greats.
  4. A couple of very interesting stats from this weekend's interleague games: AL pitchers went 10-47 for a .213 BA NL DHs went 12-63 for a .190 BA Who'da thunk it?
  5. An off day is easy to enjoy after a 5 game win streak.
  6. Nice trip. Now it tough. 3 v. Cleveland, 3 v. Anaheim, 3 @ Cleveland, then 4 @ TB ... I think
  7. Three walks and an error. We were damn lucky to get out of that inning with the lead.
  8. QUOTE (Nokona @ May 18, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) Yeah, they're usually more competent Typically for democrats.
  9. QUOTE (RME JICO @ May 18, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) As long as it equates to a Cleveland loss. Cinci up 6-2 now
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ May 18, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) Good arm turning DP. Hasn't had to show much range yet. I know positioning played a big role in it, but that play against Molina was sweet.
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ May 18, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) Hopefully the Sox will prove today, that Cain is NOT Able. /cheesy I thought of a couple of responses to this, but I'll spare you guys.
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 18, 2008 -> 06:34 AM) If it helps out the team in the long run (ie getting a better draft pick), I really don't care if they pack it in. It's not like we had a team of mainly rookies and young players, and hoping they progress and win. We had a team of mainly old vets who sucked. Sorry, but if they ever pack it in, they should be packed away and shipped off.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 17, 2008 -> 11:33 PM) All men are created equal, and then some are born Sox fans. Congrats on the addition!! Some are born Cub fans. Poor bastards.
  14. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 18, 2008 -> 03:37 AM) What really gets me is the fact that if we just decided to pack it in during the last week of '07 we could have the top pick and whoever we wanted... I don't want my team to ever 'pack it in'. Regardless.
  15. I find it extremely difficult to compare players I have seen play to those that came before my time. For example, I think Roberto Clemente was one the greatest players I have ever seen, but how can I pick him over the Babe. Then, where does Stan Musial fit in to the equation? In the Chicago athletes list, I only included players I have seen play.
  16. QUOTE (daa84 @ May 17, 2008 -> 09:54 AM) SS - Honus Wagner 2b - Joe Morgan DH - Babe Ruth CF - Willie Mays RF - Ted Williams LF - Barry Bonds 3b - Alex Rodriguez 1b - Lou Gehrig C- Josh Gibson (if negro leaguers count, satchel paige was in a previous list so i included him, if not Berra slight edge over Bench. On that note I was tempted to put Oscar Charleston, but it seems difficult to put him over any of the OFers, while Gibson over Berra I am ok with) SP - Walter Johnson Cy Young Bob Gibson Greg Maddux Lefty Grove Bullpen - CP Mariano Rivera, Hoyt Wilhem, Tom Seaver (gotta have a long man) I was tempted to put arod at short and frank robinson at 3rd, but for the sake of a leadoff man I went with Wagner (and wagner was arguably a better player than robinson anyways) BTW Knight...this seems like as good of an idea as any for the next "Lets make a list" ....if we have a long time it would be pretty sweet to do maybe a top 10 at each position and at the end compile it all....if you dont organize it, maybe i will I'm sure you mean Brooks Robinson at third.
  17. He was, at first, taken to Cape Cod hospital. Then he was airlifted to Mass. General, which is a top notch hospital per Fox News. He was moved from one hospital to the other within 2 hours.
  18. Senator Kennedy was just rushed to a Massachusetts hospital with symptoms of a stroke. That's all I know at this point.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ May 17, 2008 -> 09:30 AM) Alexei has this s*** eating grin on his face at all times that would tempt me to hit him if I were a pitcher. He'd probably get up, brush the dirt off his uni, and smile like a friggin cheshire cat again on the way to first. As long as he doesn't pull a Moonlight Graham, he'll be okay.
  20. I don't see how anyone with any amount of common sense can say that there is not intelligent life out there in the universe. If intelligent life is a result of evolution, why would anyone think that what happened on our obscure planet could not possibly have happened elsewhere? If intelligent life is the result of intelligent design, why would anyone assume that the designer limited him-her-itself to just design it on this same obscure planet.
  21. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ May 17, 2008 -> 08:25 AM) To be straight, most of the people at Wrigley gave Maddux all of the respect he deserves. I'm glad someone else considers Maddux his favorite in the game. Enjoyed your write up, Greg. Good job.
  22. QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ May 17, 2008 -> 07:07 AM) Zito has been pitching better...Soft tossing Lefty...doesnt bode well for us...Alexi probably wont be within a foot of Zito's curve Pablo will get the start tonight.
  23. Ok guys, I gotta go to work. Bring home a winner for us.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2008 -> 10:30 PM) His eye is getting better by the game. They are pitching around him.
