  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 05:55 PM) There is nothing wrong with him. He just isn't a #2 starter for a contending team. Not when you have guys like Myers, Haren, Pedro/Maine as #2 starters across the league. Pedro/Mayne ... did you forget a guy named Santana?
  2. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) Ugh, I'm a jinx. After putting up 3 TDs last night (21-2), we only score 2 runs today and lose 4-2. It's frustrating scoring 90 runs in our last 6 games, then putting only putting up 2 against a crappy school. Haha! That's baseball.
  3. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) 1. Field of Dreams...by far. 2. Bull Durham 3. Bad News Bears 4. The Pride of the Yankees (Today...day...day...I consider myself...self...self...the luckiest...uckiest...man in the world...world...world.... If I want easy watching silly fun, Major League. Pride of the Yankees. Good call.
  4. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 05:31 PM) That would be the worst I can think of. I've always believed the Sox and Pirates had some type of pre-arranged agreement, as Bonilla came to the Sox from the Pirates the year before the DeLeon trade.
  5. Fear Strikes Out. Eh ... not so much. Bull Durham, Major League and yes I like Love of the Game. I guess my favorite is Field of Dreams, and I think it's the soliloquey (I know that not spelled right, but deal with it) by James Earl Jones near the end of the movie. I love that. For some reason, I'm not all that crazy about the The Natural. It's okay, but it doesn't grab me like the others I've mentioned. Actually, considering how old it is, The Monty Stratton Story wasn't bad. Angels in the Outfield, Bad News Bears and the movie about the 12 year Cub fan that played for the team as a pitcher... forgot the title ... I'll pass on those.
  6. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) To me its kind of a gray area. He never would have given that speech if it wasnt for Wrights videos so his motives can be distorted. I also dont think he touched on anything that can be looked at as a solution but instead he just acknowledged that there are problems. Also, this discussion seems to be more about what was said by Wright instead of about Obama or his speech. For the most part I have given up on my views on Obama on here because I realize they are just extreme opinions and there isnt much point to arguing about them. My topic of concern, at least in this thread, is more about my thoughts on Wright being racist. My topic of concern is not about Wright being racist. That's a given. The man is slime. My point is that the great uniter Obama sat through all this hateful rhetoric that Wrights was spewing, and still won't disassociate himself from the man. Add in Mrs. Obama's recent remarks, and I am very leery of Obama. In other words, like when most politicians open their mouths, I don't believe a word Obama says. I believe in addition to being a very eloquent speaker, he's a world class bulls***ter. And Bomber, don't expect any comments on the Hamas thing. Those things get strategically ignored.
  7. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) ESPN has women's basketball on right now and there's 6 minutes left in the frist half. Unless I'm mistaken, the game doesn't start till 4.
  8. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) How many people have gone to their grave without seeing the CUbs win the world series. I will die a happy man if I can live long and never have to see the Cubs win the big one too. I'll already die a happy man. I saw the Sox win one. I could give a rat's ass about the Cubs.
  9. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 11:16 AM) I don't remember hearing anything anti-semitic. The Anti-Defamation League says it has no evidence of any anti-Semitism by Wright. Would you consider Hamas anti-semetic? This is from the column I linked to a couple of days ago.
  10. Welcome to the over the hill club.
  11. QUOTE(The Beast @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 07:27 PM) I never really understood this trade, Durham wasn't that overpriced and I figured he had some good years left in him for the Sox before he moved onto SF and stayed there for awhile. By the way, what has Reed done for Seattle that was that great? The Ritchie deal was a wash. I was pretty angry when Fogg was traded and when Sirotka was traded for Wells. I loved Sirotka. I'll never forget that upon hearing about the Ritchie deal, I kept thinking ... What about Brian Giles? For what we gave up, I thought for sure that Giles was coming to the Sox and the ESPN ticker was mistaken.
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 11:57 AM) I liked that your White Sox post had "substance".
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) I'm pretty sure that the reason the Sox haven't even made an offer yet is that about a year ago they went to Mr. Boras and tried to see if he'd even consider listening to an offer and were rebuffed. That's the way I understand it. It's hard to make an offer when they won't even listen.
  14. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 12:31 PM) after he wrote the letter Maybe so. Time for sleep now. I'll have to do some research.
  15. QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) Unless the church is doing something illegal, which apparently they are not, I see absolutely zero wrong with that and I actually don't even think it's newsworthy. By the way, it sounds like the guy he bought the house from is the owner of Kenny's Ribs. I love that place. Agreed. The church has the right to do as it sees fit.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) I'm a youngin' so I can't talk about anything before recent years...but let me be the first to nominate Esteban Loaiza for Jose Contreras. Since it brought us a nice shiny trophy. That'll be hard to top. Karchner for Garland has to be mentioned for the same reason.
  17. I really think this could turn into an interesting thread. In your opinion what was the best and/or the worst trade the Sox ever made?
  18. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 11:22 AM) Well stated, that sounds about right. I see you are more baseball literate than political .................................. Really, I'm just joking with you.
  19. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) The letter was about his relationship with Obama and was published over a year ago. It does not mention Wright's own views. Let's see... how long ago were those sound bites that are so taken out of context?
  20. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 11:22 AM) Or not... Flashback: Wright's Letter To NYT About Obama I have heard enough of what Wright has to say about things without having to read his attempts to minimize his hatred and racists views. Michelle Obama marches the beat of his drum.
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) Sounds about right. Listen to his stance on the war. He disagreed with it, but it happened. He wants a stable Iraq, as does everyone else. He's been saying on the trail that its past time for the Iraqis to take over, we can no longer help them militarily, any more than we have. How is this inconsisten? Considering the he proposed a plan to have us out of Iraq by March '08 (hey that's like, now!) that seems inconsistant with "the surge didn't work" and "he wants a stable Iraq". The surge quote was not meant to imply YOU said it.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 11:18 AM) So Wright and Obama are married? If so, perhaps we need to merge this thread with the one about Obama and gay sex. No, Obama is married to woman that has her own issues with America. Wright probably had some influence on her opinion.
  23. More interesting reading: Edited to take chaff that wasn't part of the story.
  24. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) I can't think of any realistic support for that claim. He denounced the war in 2002, well before he was in the US Senate. That line just comes from some random blog and has no supporting evidence for that claim. I just pointed out what I read.
  25. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) What Bush has to say is pretty irrelevant to this campaign, on that I'll agree. And the sooner he's completely irrelevant the better our country is. But I'll contend through the election even if Hillary somehow pulls out the primary that Bill Clinton's words should be treated as the words of a trusted and close adviser to the candidate. [b/] He should be considered to be at the "Dick Cheney" level, where he's guaranteed to have a lot of sway in the decision making and will probably be more powerful than anyone who has ever held that position before. Kinda like Jeremiah Wright is a trusted and close advisor to Obama.
