QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) Obama has given at least two economic policy speeches, a foreign policy speech, and a energy policy speech. People just keep saying "He hasn't said anything!" without bothering to check what he's actually said. Not every speech is going to be a detailed policy speech, but he has given several of those. http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/fpccga/ http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/p...ahamfelsen/Cmzm http://www.barackobama.com/2007/10/08/obam...new_plan_to.php http://www.google.com/search?q=OBAMA+POLIC...lient=firefox-a I clicked on your google link, and in the very first link I clicked on, maybe third on the page, I found this: It seems he wasn't always quite the anti-Iraq war he says he is. Thanks for guiding me to that. No substance.

QUOTE(Pants Rowland @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) Yeah, but a few of those were on the hidden ball trick. On one of the 2005 DVD's there is an extra from TWIB showing how he got duped twice in one season. He also got caught a couple of times when the 1B faked throwing the ball back to the pitcher after a pick off attempt. I remember him getting up from a head first dive into the bag and completely loosing contact with bag. I kept waiting for it to happen and it eventually did.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) I don't think that's the case at all. First of all, if Hillary Clinton is still running, then Bill Clinton is very much a part of the story, as there's never been a first husband, let alone a first husband who happens to be a former president and who would clearly have some influence in the administration. Secondly, there's the policy matters. If a candidate is advocating restoring a policy of the clinton administration (i.e. returning to Clinton-era tax levels) or advocating continuing a policy of the Bush administration (i.e. a few hundred more years in Iraq) then that puts either of those administrations on the table because there's no better way to evaluate the policies being advocated for than by looking at how they've already done. Let me put it this way. What the candidates actually have to say is what's important. What Bush and Bill have to say are, comparatively, irrelevent. Better?

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) I'll say it. Uribe is starting because he s Ozzie's guy. Uribe is starting because at this point in time there is not a better option. Richar is injured. Ramirez is too raw. Give it 6 weeks and see what happens. And yes, I'm basing my opinion on Uribe being much better defensively than Ramirez. I still believe that defense is more important than offense. Of course, I consider pitching as part of the defense.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) Bill Clinton - Ignore those Caucus states! You know what? Bill Clinton and George Bush are both irrelevent at this point. They are both has beens, and I mean that in the most respectful way as they both held the title of Mr. President. But what they think and/or say should really be ignored as far the upcoming election is concerned.

Substance. What it means to me is that you stand up say what you are going do, or what you will not do. I watched Obama's speech yesterday, as much as I could until CNN cut away, and he never really said or committed to anything. He expressed opinions and skirted issues so as to make good sound bytes. He the dude said absolutely nothing of substance. And for the record, I watching on Fox and they cut away, then went to CNN to see more until they cut away. I kept waiting for him to take a stand, any stand, on anything. While I watched, he didn't. As I said, no substance.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) Wasserman should be on the team, simple enough decision imo. As much as I hate to lose Masset with no return, I have to agree.

Official How Many Games Will the Sox Win Thread
YASNY replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm going with 87 wins. Cleveland wins the division with 91. The AL Cetral beats the hell out of each other all year and no one in the division finishes more than 10 under .500. All 5 teams will be tightly packed throughout the season. The Sox finish 2nd, but 2 games out of the wild card. -
QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 09:02 AM) I think the gods of fate are trying to help the Sox with their decisions. It took Frowens getting hurt 3 different times before the Sox finally DL'ed him leading to both BA and Quentin on the team. Richar had visa , back and now rib problems which opened the door for Ramirez to make the team. Massett gets raked yesterday against the D'backs possibly handing Wasserman the last bullpen spot. Now a rusty Crede fouls a ball off his foot. Though probably nothing serious maybe fate was just feeling sorry for Joe figuring he'd been through enough lately while gently nudging the Sox towards Fields. Haven't seen it mentioned much at all in every thread I've read but it isn't unheard of for an established pro to be sent down on a rehab assignment due to rustiness coming back from an injury. Crede hasnt exactly hit or fielded well this spring. If the situation is win now like William's keep stating how do you keep a hurting ineffective Crede on the roster over Fields ? Seems to me like Kenny is preferring to get Joe's value up, which is an iffy proposition at best , more than winning. I think a rehab assignment is limited to two weeks. But yes, it happens quite often.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) Can you explain why that is? I'm honestly curious to know why. Because it's been media driven. There is no substance there and the media has given him a major pass.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 08:20 AM) Obama Fathers Two-Headed Gay Terrorist Baby: The National Enquirer-ization of American Politics I've always considered Obama's popularity as the American Idol-ization of American Politics.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) I've noticed that Anderson has no clue how to hit the inside fastball. If it's inside, he doesn't need to hit it.

QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 06:54 AM) I didn't read the article (don't have time to, I'm at work), I'm just talking about that specific quote. I don't really like that kind of intentionally polarized rhetoric, it's a pet peeve of mine. Ironically it's just as divisive as anything Wright's said. The point I was trying to emphasize, the bold text part, was the pointing out of the bias on the part of the other paper. I agree, I believe the Duke remark, and there is a Hitler remark in the column, that are 'over the top' in my opinion. I personally wouldn't have gone there.
-
QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 05:24 AM) Mmkay really, in all honesty, Wright is nothing at all like David Duke or any other white supremacist leader. For someone to think that is cognitive dissonance in action. There's a lot more in that column than just the Duke comparison.

Regarding the primaries, the federal government sticks it's nose where it doesn't belong too much as it is. The states should be able to maintain the right to choose their delegates as they see fit. Regarding the electoral college: Just leave the constitution alone. There is too much risk involved in letting these leeches anywhere near it.

QUOTE(Pants Rowland @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) Walk was a very promising young prospect. He had good power and played a decent 1B. The seizure he suffered was what ended his career, not his ability. He was never the same after that and was out of baseball before long. On the Ozzie front, he was a very smart player, in particular in the field. He was always a clown, but he had a knack for getting under the skin of the opposition. He never made an effort to strengthen his body so he was always a slap hitter. When he tore up his knee in a collision with Raines, the strength program he went on the rehabilitate gave him a little more power. Unfortunately, his range was gone and he no longer had the speed which was very much a part of his game. I recall him being among the lead leaders in steals on a few occassion and also was known for hitting a triple every now and then. He was also the best split finger fastball hitter I have seen. He knew nothing about strikes and balls as he swung at everything. He would not walk or strike out much at all. but he also had a knack for spoiling pitches and going and getting pitches down in the zone. His obp was abysmal but people did not focus on that at the time. He made three all-star teams and was the ROY in 1985. He also was a mentor to Robin Ventura and helped him develop into a solid 3B. As a Venezuelan, he adored the Sox for all the inroads they made in his country and wanted to stay with the team forever. I agree with you on all points but his base stealing ability. Now stats may prove me wrong, but it seemed he was thrown out quite a bit.

swisher to lead off to start the season and play center
YASNY replied to chisox2334's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Lemon_44 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 11:29 AM) i don't get it.Before ST started no one wanted BA even sniffing around the Sox. It was, i hope he hits well at Charlotte so he raises his trade value. Now, it doesn't look like he's a starter and Ozzie should be roasted for it. Anderson has earned a spot on the team but i'm pretty sure Ozzie is going to put what he thinks is the best lineup out there. Until BA hits consistently at the major league level, i like an OF of Dye, Swisher, Quentin with Anderson a late inning defensive replacement. If Quentin struggles then Anderson will get more chances. Whoever is playing better will probably remain once Owens returns from the DL. Let's face it,when Owens returns, he's going to be the CF and leadoff. Ozzie likes speed and Owens has it. I'm not ready to write him off like alot of people. I thik he has shown a gradual improvement against major league pitching and am willing to give him a chance. I think he deserves as much a chance as BA had,and that was a whole year of batting .200,before writing him off. I'm more ready to write off Owens than Anderson. -
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) he was an angry man during that speech. Well, that's your opinion.
-
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 11:08 AM) Ozzie did not suck as a shortstop. Not a great hitter, but an extremely good fielder. And at one time, Walker was a pretty good hitter.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) oh really? I did not know that. i stand corrected. MSNBC carried his whole address. They probably did. I tuned into Fox and watched the Bush speech.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) ha ha ha!! CNN and MSNBC carried the entire Obama economy speech live.... they both dumped Clinton's half way through!! That's funny ... I was watching the Obama speech on CNN and they cut away.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 09:53 AM) even as a strong Obama supporter, even I think Paul's guys have gone nuts. There's some wackjob Obama supporters out there too. Fwiw.
