  1. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 6, 2008 -> 09:22 AM) Then why even bring it up? This isnt even close to that level What they have in common is embarrassment to the organizaion and their fans. I noted the difference in the events, just like I noticed the difference between this and the Theriot analogy. Why was that brought up? Why wasn't that questioned the same way you question me on this. Certain things are more acceptable than others.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 6, 2008 -> 09:14 AM) Wow, should the title of the thread be, everyone here has had a bad few days, let the overreations be posted here. Its a locker room, get over it. How about all the dressing up other teams do to rookies, carrying a pink backpack, "daddy why did they make Ryan Theriot dress up like a catholic schoolgirl?" Give me a break. This is such a non-story its hilarious. That's one level of behavior. This is another. Just like the Vikings cruise was another level. I'm sure Vikings fans 'got over it' but I can't imagine they were thrilled about the incident. The Sox actions do not approach the Vikings actions, but still, this ain't good.
  3. I stand up for the players on the this team as much as anyone. I get tired of the ranting and raving about their performance, or lack thereof. However, I can't and won't stand for up them in this situation.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 6, 2008 -> 09:05 AM) What happens in the clubhouse should stay in the clubhouse other than quotes media members get from players. Anything else, if they report it, they should lose their access IMO. There is no need for this stuff to be all over the papers. Like the post above stated, they try to present a family atmosphere at the ballpark and kids do look up to these guys, but that doesn't mean that crazy stuff just shouldn't happen. It should be off the record. Mickey Mantle's drinking and womanizing was off the record. Kennedy's daliances with Marilyn Monroe was off the record. Things aren't the same as they used to be. Just ask Bill Clinton about Monica. That wasn't off the record. Different times.
  5. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 6, 2008 -> 08:56 AM) Well, you show me proof of one little kid changing his view of any White Sox player after "Doll-Gate" and maybe the half of my brain which doesn't care can finally evolve to your level of sophistication. Also, this in no way affects the family atmosphere at the Cell. One doll alone cannot do it. Unless these displays of affection somehow find their way out of the clubhouse and into the stands Yeah, like a kid changing his view about a player or the team is going to make the MSM. Just consider the odds that somewhere some father has to try to explain this to his kid. I'd say there's a pretty damn good chance this will happen. And no, it won't make the front page of the Sun-Times.
  6. Put yourself in this place ... You go pick up your morning paper or hear this on the radio driving your 7 year old kid to school and you hear ... Daddy, what's a blow up doll? What did they do with the bat? ... Sorry, but like Slezak said, the boys will be boys thing doesn't excuse this. It's classless, tasteless, vulgar. It's an embarrassment to the organization and I won't be the only Sox fan that finds this personally embarrasing.
  7. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 6, 2008 -> 08:50 AM) This WAS in the locker room, right? Not on the concourse? And do the reporters have to report everything they see? Will we next be getting a story about that tramp stamp onthe lower back of Paulie that he didn't cover up when a reporter came in? Or will we hear about that embarrassing mole on Crede's ass? If the reporters themselves weren'tmaking such a big deal about this, would we be posting several pages of rage, real or otherwise? Well, it's not in the locker room anymore. It's splayed across the front page of the Sun Times and being talked about on national TV and radio.
  8. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 6, 2008 -> 07:42 AM) If a guy was offended by that I would suggest they check in their man card. I don't what your definition of a man is, but I can think of several very solid men whose manhood would not be questioned by anybody with half a brain who would be offended such a vulgar display. You've got kids that look up to these guys and a franchise that pushes a family atmosphere at the Cell. Not only is this wrong, but it's very wrong.
  9. Oh this is great. You non-racist, women's rights liberals just have to point out the symbolic signifance of "Big Brown" winning the Derby and the fillie having to be euthanized. I think this speaks for itself.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 3, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) I like it. I just don't think he should expect to get the royal treatment from either party if he chooses that route. We could use a lot more of that type. McCain fits into that mold as well. Yet McCain scares me. So, I don't know. I find myself fluctuating on McCain and Hillary ... as much as I hate to admit re: Hillary. The only thing I am sure of is I don't want Obama any where near 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 3, 2008 -> 08:20 AM) Well, there was more to that than one vote and you know it. I don't like the party B.S. either of course, but Joe has decided (for good or for bad) that he's basically an independent. He shouldn't then expect either party to be overly enthusiastic about him. A man that refuses toe the line for either party. What a radical concept.
  12. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 3, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) This thread and the sentiment behind it. Not you... oops, sorry YAS. I enjoy it when you're around these parts. No apology necessary. I knew what you meant.
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 3, 2008 -> 08:28 AM) And I think the discussion has been a lot better for it. What's "it" .... the fact I've been away for a month?
  14. I've been away from the Buster for over a month, with the exception of one post. There are two things I'd like to say about this thread. 1. This is the very first thread in the history of the Buster where everyone agrees. 2. In the spirit of sending out good vibes and thoughts to universe, I agree.
  15. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 1, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) That's a pretty bold statement, given that he never played there in the minors and his only meaningful experience in LF was in 21 games last season. Let him get some experience there in the minors and/or in winter ball before throwing the possibility out the window. It's not all that bold considering that's what has been said by the Sox powers that be.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) But why were they switched? It was to keep Javy on his usual schedule, as he has shown he's more effective without variations.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) Again with scientists trying to interpolate a trend from one friggin' year. Where did these people get their degrees? I see this from both sides of the debate, and it adds nothing to the discussion. You can't look at 2007 and call it global cooling any more than you can look at 2005 and call it global warming. Its a ridiculous idea. Heck, even a decade is a very, very short timespan to try to determine anything from. Since I haven't been in the 'Buster for a while, Kap sent me via email the link to Mike's article. Much appreciated, btw. NSS, why weren't asking the same questions after the 2005 data? It seems that data backing global warming is trumpeted as the honest to God truth ... no wait, I can't invoke God in a liberal agenda ... as a scientific truth. But let something come out that contradicts the agenda, then that, as in this case, is considered ridiculous. Typical. Now, I step back out of the Buster till I decide otherewise. And for the record, I probably won't see any responses to my post.
  18. QUOTE (southsidehawkeye @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) According to this bit on espn.com there still isnt any news on if ARod will be playing during the series opener tonight (or for that matter, be available for the rest of the series). He is going to be looked at again today to make the final decision. The Yanks' lineup looks a lot less scary with ARod out/hurting, the whole situation gives me a good feeling about this series. Go Sox! Go Contreras! You probably won't hear about ARod's availability. It will probably be a game time decision, and if he's not in the lineup there will always be the threat of him coming of the bench as a PH. If I'm the Yanks, I don't show my cards before it's time to play them.
  19. QUOTE (heirdog @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 08:48 AM) Literary genius! I think this guy is the Soxtalk version of Ice Cube making up key words like "narcotta" and catch phrases such as "me and Lorenzo rollin' in a Benzo." Keep 'em comin' oh ye rebel o' soxtalk. He has nothing on Ronnie "Woo Woo".
  20. I noticed this same glaring error in a 2nd article as well. I think it was a Trib article, but I'm not sure.
  21. QUOTE (max power @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) Last time you wrote that I thought it was a typo. I never saw a response to my ignorant post. Now that I've seen the response to mine, I'm sorry I asked.
  22. QUOTE (Linnwood @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) Billy Ripken. Also known, in baseball card collecting circles, as f*** Face!
  23. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) The Sox were 12-6 vs the Royals last season that's a .667 W% or 17% of their total wins for the season. It's strange, for whatever reason people have this feeling that the Sox have struggled with the Royals in recent years but in actuality over the past 7 or so seasons the Sox have absolutely dominated the Kansas City. That's because whenever the Royals would beat the Sox, you'd have 15 posters here say something like "Losing to the Kansas City #$%^&*( Royals in INEXCUSABLE!!!!!!!!" or other such displays of intelligence.
  24. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 07:48 AM) Now Kotex Boy is calling them out; Kotex Boy just had to get his backhanded shot at the Sox or their fans in there, though. So typical of moronatti.
  25. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 11:42 PM) Look at this stat; And we're actually getting guys on base in front of them now. Also Quentin currently has a GPA of .297 before today's game. To get .300 for that, you're considered to be an offensive star. But as for the game, Javy's pitched very well in his last 3 starts now, and the offense keeps coming through. Real good chance for a sweep looking at the pitching matchups for this series. What's GPA?
