Contreras vs. L. Hernandez
QUOTE (southsidehawkeye @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) I was in Nicaragua with the Peace Corps (briefly, had to come home for medical reasons) and was surprised how easy it was to watch US sports (especially the MLB). Seemed like every bar down there had a satellite, I never asked about the legality of them but it wouldn't have surprised me one bit if they were 'pirate satellite users'. Im sure the case in Cuba is very similar. Pretty cool that this is the first Cuba vs Cuba game, I hope that Alexei gets into the game as well (although Im not so sure we'll see much of our bench since they all got in a couple of ABs last night). If Ozzie thinks Alexie deserves to be in the game for reasons other than his nationailty, I have no problem with it. Ozzie already gets too much crap about favoring Latin players to put him just because he's Cuban.

#42 ~ Should the whole team wear it Tuesday?
QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 09:59 AM) ^^^ Great Post YAS ^^^ I'm not certain if the fans would cheer Curt Flood, but the players and agents should. Well, there's always Denny McLain.

#42 ~ Should the whole team wear it Tuesday?
I remember several years ago, there was some obscure player of African desent .... seems to me his name was Frank Thomas or something like that .... was asked about Jackie Robinson. He didn't know who the man was! Now you have Mike Ditka leading a charge to take care of NFL veterans who need help, and he has to bang his head against a wall to get anyone to listen. The NBA players don't have a clue about the pioneers that blazed the trails so today's players can enjoy their chosen profession. Along with Larry Doby, there is another player that todays MLB players should hold in reverence, and I doubt very few would know who he was. Curt Flood. What this Jackie Robinson celebration accomplishes is taking one day out of the year to remember the man, and those like that were the true trailblazers. Some get forgotten. Let's not forget them all because someone thinks it's stupid or doesn't want it thrown in his face for a whole fours out of a year.

The Start of a Season, Why Are You Here?
As a former moderator, let me say this. These guys and gals running Soxtalk are the best. No one gets booted without a long, protracted, and sometimes contentious discussion. The standard approach is to try and figure out what can be done to keep the person in question around. If somebody gets banned from Soxtalk, I assure you that they have earned it.

The OFFICIAL "I was wrong about Joe Crede" thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 07:37 AM) I don't think Crede or AJ will continue having the seasons they're having, either, but that doesn't change the fact that they're helping us win the EARLY games, which more often than not come back to bite the teams in the ass that lost them in the end when things come down to the wire. See Cleveland in 05, had they not started off so poorly waiting for their younger guys to "come around" we may have lost the division to them that year. We all know what happened at the end of that season, instead. And while Cleveland may not have had much of a choice, since they didn't have the veterans, WE DO have the choice... And I love this thread, even if it's early, we're racking up some all important early wins and Joe "Washed Up" Crede is a BIG FAT HUGE PART OF IT! There is nothing worse than getting hot at the end of the season and losing the division/wildcard by 1 game...simply because you lost a few games early in the season that could have/should have been won. These games are very big wins for the Sox. These are our division opponents and every W we put up is an L on their record.

2008 AL Central Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (rcpweiner @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 12:49 AM) Well, Borowski certainly sucks. Maybe Kenny wasn't so crazy to spend some extra money fortifying the bullpen in a division where Borowski and Todd Jones are two of the closers. Kenny HAD to fortify the bullpen.

Dammit Crede! That backswing has got to go.

Positive Catch All
QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) Great to watch a healthy Crede at the plate. But Joe Crede is a below average third baseman.

Negative Catch All ~ House of Blues
All I said was I like the black jerseys. And I do. Nothing to say about the effects of wearing them.

The Start of a Season, Why Are You Here?
I'll put my two cents in. When I first came to Soxtalk, it really seemed to have more thought out and intelligent discussion than it does today. When there were differing opinions, they were discussed without people going nuclear as often. I don't mind the snarky post from time to time, because I think they be well placed and add a lot to a discussion. Hell, Steff was a master at that and about 99% of the time she was right on the money. But sometimes it just gets a little overbearing around here. I have taken sabbaticals from Soxtalk because it just didn't seem fun anymore. In fact, I'm on a self imposed sabbatical from the 'Buster right now. I haven't even looked in there for about 10 days. I don't know what the answers are, but I do feel the overall quality of the site has gone downhill and it's simply due to the post quality.

Negative Catch All ~ House of Blues
QUOTE(heirdog @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) Time to end the Hall experiment. Play AJ until he can't get out of his crouch. That's smart. Then what?

Who is the MVP of the Tigers Series
I've had the rare (for me) opportunity of watch all three games vs. Detroit. Quentin has been damn impressive. Uribe had a great game last night defensively. All in all, it's been a team thing more than one guy stepping up and carrying the team. Which, is what you like to see. So, my MVP of the series is the Chicago White Sox.

A bit off topic, but I have to ask. Did Jimbo's have to shut down?

i am drunk
QUOTE(The Beast @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) I don't get what all the fuss is about over getting drunk. It's a buzz created by alcohol. Woo hoo. I could get a buzz off of my daily 3 mile run or having Mountain Dew and Lemonheads while gaming with friends. I guess my question is, why should I need to know what it is like? You have made your choice to stay alcohol free. That's great and I commend you for it. However, you should get off your high horse when it comes the choices that others have made. If you're a non-drinker, then maybe you should consider staying out of alcohol related threads.

Your favorite baseball movie ever?
QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) Fear Strikes Out. Eh ... not so much. Bull Durham, Major League and yes I like Love of the Game. I guess my favorite is Field of Dreams, and I think it's the soliloquey (I know that not spelled right, but deal with it) by James Earl Jones near the end of the movie. I love that. For some reason, I'm not all that crazy about the The Natural. It's okay, but it doesn't grab me like the others I've mentioned. Actually, considering how old it is, The Monty Stratton Story wasn't bad. Angels in the Outfield, Bad News Bears and the movie about the 12 year Cub fan that played for the team as a pitcher... forgot the title ... I'll pass on those.
