The difference is.... is that I won't be saying "Wait till next year."
-
Valentin is a class act and a good ballplayer. I'm glad he's with us, and hope we can bring him back next year.
-
I believe that before the year is out, Carlos will justify his worthiness to the club. But, I'm also of the opinion that if he doesn't do it this year, he never will.
-
I've been thinking the same thing. But, if Loiaza has finally learned how to change speeds, like JM says he has, he could surprize us.
-
I'll agree that Danny Wright earned his spot in the rotation. And because he had a bad spring, you take it away from him? Hmmmm, let's see here. He was pitching in that light Arizona air and with a sore elbow. Yes, that's fair. Dump him. ................. I hope Josh Stewart pitches so well that the Sox can't send him down, but Danny Wright also deserves to be in the rotation.
-
The kid was offered $20K right on the spot.... I wouldn't have thrown it back to Sosa.

No way can you, at this point, classify Jiminez as better than Durham. Who knows how good the guy can be in the future. But as for now, Ray Durham is a better all around player. However, someone said Durham was the best at turning the DP. What? !!!! No. Ray worked very hard to become, at best, adequate at turning the DP. When he was young, he was terrible at it. Also.. I can give you 3 reasons why Valentin will not make the all star team, as was predicted in this thread..... ARod, Tejada, Nomar.
-
Maybe we got lucky here and signed someone that will help us out in the near future.
-
some of us like to have both.....and at our ages we are thankful for both....... but you are right for the most part.. its not the size of the dingy in the water but the motion of the ocean which floats it............. It's not the size of the tool, but the skill of the craftsman. For the sake of throwing out another expression.

The thing is that he and FOX pride themselves on "fair and balanced" reporting. When he admits that he is going to slant the information because he is "slanted and biased", then that compromises the integrity of journalism. There is a difference between baseball and foreign policy/war. This is on a much larger scale with important issues and peoples' lives are at stake. FOX is just so fair and balanced. I'm surprised CW hasn't gotten in on this and laughed his ass off yet either. Where you at, CWSox? I didn't see when he said this. Your original post says he admitted the HE was biased. It said nothing about him going to slant the information. Now, did he say that, or just that HE was biased? As for the Vin Scully comment, give me a break. Of course, there's a big difference between baseball and war. I was using that as an EXAMPLE of someone that can be biased and not let that influence their coverage.

The way that I interpreted that, was that they were saying that whether Saddam is alive, dead, whatever ... was irrelevent. From the very beginning, they wanted a regime change. They ffered that to Saddam with tha 48 hour deadline. Why is this noteworthy and contradictory now?

It's good to see Borchard going through 5 plate appearances without a "K".
-
I'll second that motion. Hmmmm ... I wonder if we can get any volunteers to pose. I'll do the photoshoot.
-
I agree with every word you said in this post. Still, I think some people are about ready to go ballistic on us. We'll get straightened out. Today's game against the Kitties was a start.

Hey! Welcome. Glad you joined us.

When Veeck owned the Sox the first time around, he really made some trades that proved to be horrendous. Trading off Earl Battey, Johnny Callison, Norm Cash, etc. But that was before I was old enough to even know who the Sox were. I do know, that as a fan, I enjoyed having Bill Veeck as the Sox owner. Before the '77 season, I wrote Bill a letter expressing my concern that club was not going to be competetive. He responded, telling methat that he was very positive that the '77 Sox would be a good ballclub. Turned out that he was right. I saved that letter, but I haven't been able to locate it for some time. Bummer. He signed it, and now he is a deceased HOF'er.

Great line there by your Dad.

The reason Buehrle is pitching Saturday and Stwerat is going Sunday is that they want to pitch Buehrle and Colon as much as possible. Since we had an off day between games 1 and 2 in KC, this keeps them on their normal schedule of pitching every fifth day.
-
We needed a good performance from Loiaza. Regardless of who the opponent was.
-
That was a fun team to watch. Bill Veeck put together a team of retreads and mid-level stars, and they clicked. Eric Soderholm, Richie Zisk, Oscar Gamble. He traded Terry Forster and Rich Gossage to Pittsburg for Zisk, so hat was somewhat painful. Of course, Veeck couldn't afford to kep this team together as Zisk and Gamble bailed to free agency. Basically, Veeck invented and tried to keep the team competetive with the "rent-a-player" philosophy.

That's typical of our politicians... from either party.

I have no problem with them wanting America to win. They can hold those opinions PERSONALLY. When doing a job in the media, they should at least attempt the illusion of objectivity. When they have the banner ad saying "Fair and balanced reporting!" and then Neil Cavuto saying "Am I slanted and biased? You're damn right I am" I find that hypocritical and, honestly, pretty goddamn amusing. I still don't see why he can't be biased, yet report unobjectively. That's like Vin Scully doing Dodger games on network TV. You KNOW he's biased towards LA, but he was basically nuetral when doing one of their games.
