    D'angelo Jimenez

Oh, I love it. This is not directed specifically at you Yas.. but in one breath it's "who cares when they do off the field, bla, bla, bla.." and the next there is crusifying (as I did with that word I'm sure) past players. Make up your damn minds or shut the hell up. It wasn't taken personally against me Steff, as I think you basically reinforced what I siad, unless I totally miscontrued the meaning of your post. Regardless, it's cool.

    Best Sports Movie

Frank Thomas was in Mr. Baseball with Tom Selleck. The Longest Yard and Bull Durham are classics in my book. But the best sports movie has to be Rocky. It won an Oscar for best picture. And there is always the movie about our ex-broadcaster, Jimmy Piersall... Fear Strikes Out. LOL
  3. The craziest thing I ever did was to wait so long to start doing crazy s***.
  4. I'm just grateful that he is in the past, and we don't have to deal with him.
  5. Whenever I think of someone getting hit in the head, and the effects it can have, I think of Tony Conigliaro. The dude was a helluva hitter until that incident. It messed up his vision for years, then he could not overcome the fear factor when he did try and comeback. How anyone can intentionatly throw a baseball 90+ mph at someone's head is beyond me. You can brush them back, drill them around the waist or in the back, make them attempt to skip a rope to dodge one. You might injure someone that way, but you can kill someone by hitting them in the head. Unthinkable, to me.
  6. Jimenez approach at the plate mixed with his swing will keep him out of slumps and will give him a very high obp. He's not as quick as he used to be, but he is a very good baserunner and having a high obp is awesome at the top of the lineup. Defensively I think he's average and he can be above average, but that will take some more work. I've also been impressed with what Harris has done thus far. He has never had a huge opportunity at the majors and I think he'll get one eventually this season. He may even be up in the next week or so if the Sox decide they want to play him in center, but considering he's getting the bulk of his time at second in AAA, I'd think that he's ticketed for the infield. That being said, I don't want to see him swinging for the fences, but hitting the ball on a line. I'm assuming he's doing that. I read today that Harris has been playing CF a lot lately.
  7. HSC, you were right...not that I ever doubted you about Miguel but he's a lot better than I thought he would be. The kid can play D, hit, run, and has an incredible intensity level. I think the major reason we won that game against KC earlier in the homestand was because Miguel slid into first base causing the Royal fielder to panic and throw the ball away. I have to say it's early, but I love the kid! CWSOX45 hey i try and do my best to pick out the good guys........i think i did good on this one........ So far so good with Miguel. I think he'll be a solid catcher, potentially even an All-Star game or two in his future.

    WHIP

I'd agree with you on that. "Show me a pitcher who throws strikes and isn't afraid to throw inside and I'll show you a guy thats going to be sucessful more often then not. " Someone forward this observation to Jon Garland, please.
  9. you can trade after the deadline if the guy clears waivers.. what was wrong with ritchie other than the fact that he sucked??..he never lost velocity or complained about being hurt unitl he went on the DL...every pitcher who approaches briam kingman"dom" goes on the DL...when ritchie went on he was still on pace for 21 loses I asked if he cleared waivers. You are right, that he didn't mention any problems until he went on the DL. But, he wouldn't be the first pitcher to not talk about a sore elbow or shoulder until it shut him down. And considering he had never sucked so much in his career, a sore arm could very well have been a major contributing factor.
  10. The Cubune just used their columnist to post another ad for "Beautiful Wrigley Field".
  11. That late in the season? Did he clear waivers? It was after the trade deadline. This still makes no logcal sense to me.

    Garland

Ditto. It's getting time for Garland to step up, or step down, to AAA.
  13. The Baltimore series ends the part of our schedule where we really should have fattened up, and we blew it. Unless we sweep the O's. I said we needed to be at about 15-7 at the end of this series, and with a sweep we can 14-8. That's close enough, butit's time to start playing some baseball. These 2 losses to the Indians really hurt.
  14. I don't think the players union would allow that. It happens in the Minors, but I don't think it is realistic in this scenario. The Sox just need to send JP down and gamble that he will clear waivers. If he doesn't, it would not be the end of the world. I wish the NBA had as strong a union as MLB (they have possibly the strongest union in America). People are put on the IR all the time in the NBA when they're perfectly healthy. I think that's BS. it happened last year with toad ritchie What did putting Ritchie on DL achieve? Not letting him get 20 losses? .... Let's see. They put him on the DL, then he pitches 2 innings or so, before walking as a FA. They could have just released him to prevent the 20 loss thing. But, they couldn't release him if he wasn't injured. A fake injury just makes no sense in this scenario.
  15. cmon you have to go with soriano because he has proved it over an entire season...jimenez could still end up hitting his career average...soriano is a freak Anyone who is comparing Jiminez with Soriano is absolutely clueless. Right. Hell, I heard them (Sutcliffe?) compare Soriano's bat to Henry Aaron's today. This kid can be a monster. He may redefine the expectations at 2b the way ARod, Nomar, etc. did at SS.
  16. Garland may have only one more shot to perform up to expectations. He should get his next start, but then the schedule will allow JM to skip him if he sucks the next time out. By that time, Wright should be getting close to ready. JG is under the gun here, as Josh Stewart is out pitching him so far. C'mon Jon, throw strikes and go after these hitters.

    Glover

A lot of young pitchers get "jerked" between starting and the bullpen. Buerhle started out in the bullpen, then surprisingly became a very good starting pitcher. That's just the way it is in MLB. A young pitcher usually gets his first opportunities out of the pen, then gets some starts when the situation demands, then back to the pen. Either they eventually prove themselves as a starter or they become career relief pitchers, if they make it at all.
  18. How about Cubbie plane going down and slamming into Wriggley Field? i will be happy, how bout you. I'm glad I'm not eat up with that much hate... for anybody. That's sad..... and scary too.
  19. The same Harold Reynolds that wants to contract one of the original teams that has a ton of history in the Detroit Tigers? How about no. I guess it's hard to be a big-time baseball know-it-all like that. Baseball is the one game where, most of the time, you fail more than you succeed, and you look like an idiot in what you are saying more times than not. I thought Reynold's was way off base with that crack about contracting the Tigers, also. But generally, he is okay.
  20. It's going to happen one of these days. Yankee Stadium is known for flying batteries. One is going to hit someone in the temple, or the eye, and it is going to kill or blind a ballplayer. Another example is the referee that got hit with the whiskey bottle at Soldier Field.... IIRC at a Bears/Vikings game.
  21. I think Omar Vizquel would be a more realistic choice for Sox SS in 2004, assuming that we don't keep Jose and that Jiminez is not the heir apparent. That's a large assumption there, Rex. I wouldn't want Visquel anyway. We tried that path with a washed up Indian last year, and it worked for about a month.

    D'angelo Jimenez

Belle, Cordero, Clayton and Jiminez all in the same thread. We've had some real quality candidates for sainthood, haven't we? Who knows how things are turn out with Jiminez while he's here. Basically, all I'm concerned about at this point is the score at the end of the game each night, and hoping no one gets hurt.
  23. Cub fans... it f***ing figures. Assholes.
  24. Ya what the hell is wrong with some people these days? Life's a struggle even in the best of times. You gotta have a little fun now and then. So many are such "amateurs" these days. I don't want so much security that going to a game will be an ordeal like it is to fly now. amen to that one SI.... i cant stand going to the park and not being able to have my friends sit around me......if the security gets tighter at the park then rps, baggs, cw and others will not be able to come down by me and heckle the opposition...........that would suck and make for a boring game........... Well, if you season ticket holders would do a better job of keeping the others in check, then we wouldn't be talking about this, would we?
  25. If you are saying this is an example of good managing, I beg to differ. "Terrible teams" sums it up. TK did a great job early in his career, but he just seemed to show up toward the end.
