Bulls To Let Ben Gordon Go?
whitesoxfan101 replied to ozzfest's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ May 1, 2009 -> 04:44 PM) I won't say better. Ben is equally as good as him though at this point in time. If Gordon ends up having a career like Ray Allen, I'd be super happy. I would take Ben over an older Ray Allen though if that's what you're asking. Hmm, ok. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 1, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) Random question but anyone know what Getz' splits were against lefties in the minors? I'm curious. http://www.minorleaguesplits.com/cgi-bin/pl.cgi Love that site, just search Getz obviously. EDIT: .302/.371/367/.738 Oh, and I hope Prancer has something left. I don't like him in CF AT ALL though, I know that. -
I can't wait until that opens, I would love to do that.

Maybe the borders should just be closed every flu season. After all, it appears the general, seasonal flu is worse than this thing.

QUOTE (Ron @ May 1, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) But Ray Allen is healthy. Ben's hammy ain't gonna get too much better in one day. Well healthy, and even at his advance age, also a better player. *Waits for the torch wielding Ben Gordon mob to tell me why he's better than a future hall of famer*. -

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 1, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) It's actually annoying for me to hear ESPN analysts play down this series because it's only in the first round. I almost get the impression people can't admit it. As if they're hoping Game 7 is a blowup so the basketball purists such as Charlies Barkley and Jalen Rose can continue building up past series with actual superstarts!1 Honestly, does it matter that less is at stake? When you're a player, on the court, is "oh man, this is the Finals; I better give 100% instead of 95%!" going through your head? Take everything from this series as a whole, ignore what round it happened in, and say to me that any series has eclipsed it? If the intensity is heightened as the series continues forward, then why hasn't a game like this happened before in the semis, conference finals, or finals? BUT WAIT, THE GAMES HAVE MORE INTENSITY! MORE IS AT STAKE!11 Admit it, people. As the the ESPN columnist Simmons suggested, this game has transcended the sport. Even people unfamiliar with basketball all watching this. The NBA only wishes more time would pass between Game 6 and 7 so they could promote it more. This has been perhaps the most exciting series of all time, but I can understand the downplaying by some. Both teams have blown several chances to win in basically every game (outside of the blowout game 3), both teams have appeared very poorly coached, there hasn't been anything resembling defense, and it's a first round series between two teams who have ZERO shot at making the NBA Finals, let alone winning them. This has been a thrilling, exciting, epic series for the ages, but take it for what it is because it's been very flawed in several senses too. -

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ May 1, 2009 -> 12:36 AM) Really fun series to watch. Bulls probably wont win on Saturday, and it probably wont be close... but it was a great ride. Probably the most excited I've been about NBA basketball since the Warriors/Mavericks series a few years back. I agree they won't win, but I don't see how it won't be close. With the exception of the still hard to fathom game 3, this series has been nothing but close, and I think the Bulls have played better in Boston than in Chicago. -

This isn't nearly the best series ever (the level of defensive play and mistakes are impossible to overlook), but it's certainly the most exciting series I can remember seeing. This series is kind of a microcosm of why the NFL is popular in that the level of play has been hot and cold, but the games have been amazingly exciting and amazingly close. The Bulls need to just GET A LEAD AND HOLD ONTO IT in game 7. We know they can get leads, they need to finally hold one in the 7th game and win this thing. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 1, 2009 -> 12:04 AM) As proud as I am of this team, the Bulls win this series a long time ago with a legit, veteran NBA coach. Yep, it's over in 5 or 6 if they had one. -

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 11:44 PM) BG is gonna bend you all over in Game 7. Book it. He better if the Bulls want to win that game. This silliness tonight, as exciting as it was, ain't gonna cut it in a game 7 road game. -
I hate the media. A 22 month old dying from the flu was BREAKING NEWS today. I mean, it's sad that the kid didn't make it, but are you serious? I hope nobody out there is actually buying this as a HUGE cause for concern. It's just a strain of flu that attacks healthier people than the regular strain. Wash your hands, take a shower, cover your damn mouth if you cough/sneeze, and go to the doctor if you feel like s***. It's not too hard to remember.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) Are you kidding me? Why the f*** should Derek Rose get the ball? Umm because he's the best player on the team at creating open shots for either himself or somebody else? Plus, Ben Gordon isn't particularly good at creating his own shot, he just fools people into thinking he is at times because he gets so hot from the field that anything he tries goes on. Last night, however, was not one of those nights (although the shot he hit late in the 4th to put the Bulls up was a circus attempt that dropped). Rose had a poor game, but he still has to be given the ball and given a chance to create in an end of game situation. The only time I'd let Gordon take the ball all the way in a spot like that would be in a scenario like game 2, where he just is absolutely unconscious from the field. On a side note, I don't think i've ever seen a player who made fans say dumber things (and EVERYBODY has been guilty of it at some point) than Ben Gordon. A lot of people think he's some cross between Reggie Miller and Ray Allen in their prime, while many others just think he completely sucks. The BG arguments are one thing I won't miss if he's gone after this season, that's for sure. -

Cleveland's going to win the east anyways, and do so without being challenged, so it's not like much of this matters. It'd be nice to see the Bulls win this series and have a shot to play next round and see what happens though. -

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 11:55 PM) And Philly isn't hanging with Orlando. Ahh yes, the old "it's 2-2, and if not for a 3 at the horn, could have possibly been 3-1" series in which one team isn't hanging with another one. See those all the time. -

The refs were awful tonight, but the Bulls, just as they did in game 2, blew a bunch of chances to win this game/put it away (really, that happened in games 1 and 4 too, but they won so people ignore it). They simply can't close out games, and if the Bulls lose this series, it will be for that reason. The Bulls have really been their own worst enemy, well that and Rajon Rondo. Derrick Rose REALLY needs some work on the defensive end of the floor. -

QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 08:24 AM) BTW, that hamstring situation happened in the 1st half. He played through it,he laid it all on the line, even with his contract situation. His defense yesterday is the last thing I will b**** about. So Jake, get your facts straight. We are toast without BG. Most of you might get your wish. BG just might have played his last game as a member of the Chicago Bulls. Losing BG would hurt the Bulls at least in the short term (ie in 2009-2010 and in this series if he doesn't play anymore), but to say they are "toast" without him is over the top. I give him credit for playing through injuries yesterday though, and also for hitting a big 3 pointer. -

I think the Bears did about as well as you could reasonably expect in this draft all things considered. They got some very good value picks, and I think a few holes were filled (although some remain, obviously). Hopefully Iglesias goes better than Mark Bradley, and hopefully the Abilene Christian connection works out again (I thought Manning was pretty good last year actually). Gilbert and Melton, IMO, could help right away on the defensive line and the Bears REALLY need help there and I think D.J. Moore adds much needed depth at corner. Marcus Freeman is a guy they need to step in and help depthwise too, but I think he can. I don't think the Bears made a single pick that upset me, which might be a first. And last, I couldn't be happier for Larry English. He's heading into a pretty good situation, and I couldn't think of a better person to represent NIU as our first guy to be selected in the 1st round of the NFL Draft. -

What a fantastic night last night was for the Hawks as an organization. It really in my opinion fortells good things in this series too, because the Hawks played HORRENDOUS hockey for most of the night and still won the game. Nerves were obviously a factor, yet the Hawks still found a way. I think with that first game out of the way, they will really settle in, play well, and win the series. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) I don't think the protests were racist. I would assume most die hard Obama supporters want to paint his opposition as racist, but I think it's more misinformed than racist (although I can see why people are upset about government spending right now since I'm not particularly happy about it).

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 05:08 PM) That is probably true. +1 on analysis. I also think (perhaps having Rose and since the deadline Salmons around has factored in this) that Gordon has had his best shot selection of his career this year. The only times I see him go into a cycle of shooting a lot is either in the first quarter if he wants to get off to a hot start/they are playing a bad opponent he wants to help the team jump ahead of, or in the 2nd half if the team needs some scoring. He really hasn't had nearly as many random outbursts of shot attempts this year as he used to. -

I don't even need to read the thread to understand it implies white fans of the White Sox are racist. All I can tell you is this: I've been to a lot of games at The Cell and at Wrigley (obviously far more at The Cell.) I am also a Sox fan and perhaps biased, but I have not seen obvious examples of racism at work in my time at The Cell. I have, however, seen it at Wrigley Field. I think Wrigley Field and Wrigleyville are not friendly places for minorities, and although I am white and that doesn't directly affect me as a result, it's one of the many reasons I have distaste for the Cubs. -
There was a story in the Sun Times today about racism at Wrigley Field, it focused on Milton Bradley and his preparedness for it. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cu...T-cub15.article

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) Last time I checked which was about a month ago, Ben Gordon had the second least FGA for anyone in the top 20 in scoring behind Dwight Howard, so I don't get this notion that Ben Gordon is a ballhog or has to hoist up shots with no abandon when in reality, he actually doesn't do so. The reason he has that rep I think is he'll have stretches where he shoots the ball at an incredible rate. Now, he also has stretches where he doesn't shoot much at all which explains that stat, but I can see where people get the false notion he shoots the ball a ton. -
