Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread

Man I love me some Derrick Rose, very nice win tonight. Have to win that finale and hope Philly loses one so you get the 6th seed and Orlando. -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) If a no hitter gets thrown, ESPN will undoubtedly find it more interesting than Dye and Konerko hitting back to back 300th homeruns. Well yeah, of course, but that doesn't take away from the accomplishment of JD and Paulie. None of this discussion matters though, the no hitter is gone.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 04:13 PM) TED LILLY HAS A NO-HITTER AFTER 5 INNINGS!!!!!!!!!! I ask this because i'm curious: what affect would Ted Lilly throwing a no hitter have on anything? Carlos Zambrano threw one last September and it really meant nothing other than being a nice achievement for him personally.

Very sad news, one of my all time favorites. I didn't know this, but Harry is actually an original local, he was born, grew up in, and graduated from High School in Naperville. He also said he fell in love with baseball at a young age when his Dad took him to a game at Comiskey Park. Now the event that happened at the game made him a Senators fan, but nevertheless it's an interesting local connection. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4064793 RIP Harry.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) I think he's saying he's tired of seeing people bash Obama and/or mock the liberal base just for the sake of doing it. The liberals have been doing it to the GOP for years now. If they don't like it, they shouldn't do it themselves. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) Its all been down hill for them since losing Barry Bonds. Fixed, although at your original post/concept of it.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 10:41 PM) I am the same, but in reverse. I am a church going social conservative, but fiscal liberal. There is a reason I am an independent. It's hard to merge the two into any one party. One of the reasons I liked Obama is because I dont like the current GOP fiscal policy and I dont like their stance on universal health care. But at the same time, i dont like the Dem policy on Gay marriage... excuse me... "civil unions" and abortion. So, in any election, I have to decide who i think is the best for the current situation in this country. Right now, I felt that fixing the economy was more important that trying to ban abortion and gay marriage. Both of which are already to of the bottle and would be hard to put away. In 8 years, if the economy i strong and i dont think a GOP president would screw it up, I'd vote for one. I hear you. I'm actually not even socially liberal as much as I am passive, such as I personally think abortion is wrong but should also remain legal.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) Playing to their base worked for the Democrats. But because the Dem base has some pretty clear ideals. The GOP has two sets of bases. They can play to fiscal conservatives, or they can play to social conservatives. However, it's very difficult to play to both. Especially because the social conservative base lately has had the heart of the party for so long and is so polarizing, its loathe to give it up. Very true. I am a fiscal conservative and a churchgoer to boot, but not a social conservative at all. I also grew up a republican and still consider myself as leaning to the right, but the GOP's tendency to use fear to try and gain votes and tendency to cater to the social conservative part of their party has really turned me away lately. And I imagine i'm not alone.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 08:05 PM) Can we get some more intelligent Obama haters around here please? "Three of the pirates are dead and their hostage was freed unharmed" "Great! This is terrible news for the Democrats!" "Um, where did you get that from? They say Obama may well have authorized the military response." "Woo-woo, go W, I'm going teabagging, cut my taxes more!" Eh? I can see why some people might think there would be fringe liberals who would be very upset at the thought of just shooting and killing 3 pirates like that. I am not among those people, but I can see why they exist.

Bartolo Colon's fat f***ing ass is no longer MLB quality...

Over/under on how many pages this thread is by the time the regular season ends? It's got to be a high number, as this thread will be bumped after both every good start by Colon and every bad start, with only the meh type starts keeping this thread quiet. -
And That's a White Sox Winner !
whitesoxfan101 replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am still really worried about our offense (to me, best case scenario is it's like last year in that we hit a ton of home runs and live and die by them, worst case scenario is PK, JD, and Thome show their age and our offense sucks with no leadoff hitter ever emerging). But if our pitching staff stays reasonably healthy, I honestly thing it's going to be really good, and that will keep us in games even when our offense struggles. Josh Fields had a heck of a first week, I hope it's a sign of things to come and not a flash in the pan. -

EDIT: Double good news. Calgary lost tonight (blown out). So not only did the Hawks clinch home ice, it appears they will play Calgary instead of Vancouver in the 1st round, which I at least think is good news. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) Yep, his K/9 innings last year was a huge warning sign. I know his velocity was up on opening day (adrenaline), but he looked worse than ever on Thursday with his fastball. He needs to start using his offspeed stuff more to get ahead in the count. I was sitting behind the Sox on deck circle about 25 rows up on Thursday, and his stuff looked horrible. -

QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 10:04 PM) And this ball game is over. I can't be the only masochist here who watched the entire thing, can I? Nope I did. I always will watch if I can, there is always reason to watch, like CQ's at bats, and Fields, and Getz. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) I love Jenks as much as anyone. But if we can get a ton of value for him, go for it. We need to max our value now in this transitional phase in our organization. Lots of draft picks, and lots of talent to reload for another championship run. We should be reloading for Project 2011 which is when we reload with a strong youthful core. People can say his declining velocity is "him learning how to pitch", but I call it "a glaring sign we need to trade him while he still has value". -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 09:55 PM) Fantastic series on Skinemax. It's into it's 3rd year. I don't get skinemax. I assume that this show is full of softcore waste of time stuff though. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 09:44 PM) He hit a no doubter to CF tonight that was ridiculous. It also looks like he put on 20 lbs. He's put on 30 pounds according to what I was told by my friends down there. The Marlins are going to be a blast to watch. I don't know if they can finish above the Phillies or Mets because their bullpen sucks, but they are loaded in the other parts of that team and could surprise some people and make a serious playoff run. -
I understand this isn't as simple as the thread title implies, but this isn't the change people voted for in November. Ignoring the constitution seems like a popular thing to do in both parties though nowadays, so I shouldn't be surprised.
-
I like our pitching staff, I hate our offense. Those were my thoughts after our first win, and they are my thoughts after our first loss at well. Hopefully the defense of Josh Fields the first 2 nights wasn't a mirage, because we need our infield to show some good glovework to make up for our outfield in terms of defense.
-
I would have no reaction to him except a polite applause for what he did in September and October of 2005, a similar reaction to that I would have for an Aaron Rowand return. I don't think an all out standing ovation is in order though, and booing him is definitely not in order.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) He's the kind of guy we really needed to come up with. Absolutely. And on the contrary, speaking of things I might be wrong about, Clayton Richard. I still don't think he has the stuff to ever be a starting pitcher, but he throws strikes and uses his left hand to do it, so he could be a valuable swing man type in the bullpen for days just like today where the starter doesn't go deep into the game. He looked good today. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) And that's a very good ballplayer. I'll take it any day. Yeah, I probably get the majority of things wrong around here, but I am confident that my longstanding faith in Chris Getz is one of the few things that will prove to be accurate. He's just a solid player.
