  1. Olivo is such a little b****, although that was clearly on purpose by Carrasco. GOOD!!!! I LIKE THIS. Maybe this'll wake our asses up.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) I hope we never see Richards start a game for the Sox again. You won't, not even an issue you should worry about. As for the people who say we're done, why? Yes we are playing badly and yes Minnesota is the favorite, but we're tied with them in the loss column after today even with the day off. The way we are playing says we're out of it, the odds say we're out of it, our eyes tell us we're out of it, but the standings don't, and until they do, you can't just say season over. The problem is, if we continue to pitch and defend like this, the standings will eventually also say we're out of it.
  3. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:21 PM) Greinke has the sinking action working today. Know what suprised me about this inning? Alexei took the first pitch. It was a strike, but he usually swings at the first one My brother says the exact same thing. He said it about two weeks ago, and after watching for it closely, I can see that both of you are right. He needs to be a bit more patient, even with the success he's had this year.
  4. It's hard for me to worry about the Twins right now with the issues we have. What they do doesn't matter if our play doesn't improve soon, because we'll fall out of it regardless. As for the offense, yes they suck today. Assuming this holds up, we'll have a 4-6 road trip. However, we've had games on this trip we lost when we scored 7, 6, 5, and 4 runs. If we can win any of them, it's an even trip and if you get two, it's an above .500 trip. Problem is, we can't win too often these days without a lacrosse score from our offense.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) Disagree. For being a die hard Cubs fan, he is very unbiased most of the time. I hate and can't stand him when it's his work relating to the Chicago Cubs, because he's a typical Cubs fan in that regard. However, if it's anything except Cubs, I think he does a very good job.
  6. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) At this point it doesnt matter, anyone he has put in has sucked. Correct, the pitching staff and defense since about Independence Day have been a lot like the 2007 Sox. You can try everybody and anybody, but they all suck. Makes the manager look awfully dumb.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:15 PM) If we just completely tank over the next month, KW should really try to pass Dotel through waivers. I don't think we'll fall out of the race. I highly doubt we'll win this divison, but we won't just fall out of it, and if we do, it won't be until the month of September.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Our equivalent of that trade would have been something like Mike MacDougal, Andy Gonzalez (now on the Indians, actually), Charles Haeger and Donny Lucy. Those 4 guys combined don't have the value that Sean Gallagher does by himself. That's more of a statement about the 4 guys than it is Gallagher, but it's still true.
  9. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) ...and only Gallagher is a starter on a real major league team. They dealt Harden for some trash. We don't even have enough of a package to constitute "trash" in our minor league system right now though.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) If Contreras isn't ready, then maybe we'll see Poreda? Poreda has a chance to be a serviceable MLB pitcher at least, but he's nowhere near ready. We might see him though, you are right, but he'd have problems too and we could mess him up mentally if we bring him up this quick and let him get lit up.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) Broadway sucks also. If Contreras isn't going to be ready, shame on KW for not acquiring another starter. "The market was ridiculous and out of control". "You can't trade away a dollar if you only get back 50 cents". "We currently don't have the resources to make trades due to Duane Schaefer's tenure, and the lies of David Wilder". etc etc.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) To think that Ozzie let this kid face Morneau in that 5th inning earlier in the week. Well I'm not going to argue that decision, as well as playing Konerko today, was pretty damn stupid.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) And none of those guys (except Liriano) has what you would call great stuff (compared with Floyd), maybe Baker is the closest, but he doesn't dominate with his fastball. That's because their organization has what ours doesn't. That is, people who can develop young talent in the minors, pitchers who throw first pitch strikes, have developed secondary stuff, and keep the ball down, and good defense which covers ground to help.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) The last 4 are good at home, below average on the road. Makes sense. The opposition isn't dealing with the air conditioning blowing in, large dimensions, and a horrible hitters eye on the road.
  15. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) people in the organization, everyone wanted this guy up The people in our organization couldn't recognize a talented minor league player if it bit them in the ass.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) Isn't our strength of schedule much more difficult than the Twins? Hopefully the Twins suck on the road. Yeah it is, but we are at home a hell of a lot more. I'm just going to refer and stick to what my signature says right now on the AL Central, it's our only hope at the moment.
  17. Assuming Jose Contreras is on schedule, you might not see Clayton Richard in a Sox uniform ever again. Or at least, I hope that's the case.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) This team flat out sucks right now with all the injuries and fading pitching staff. The scary thing is the end of what you said. It would be one thing if the injuries were what were clearly hurting us, such as if we were just having issues with Clayton Richard, 3rd base, and the 8th inning exclusively. The problem is, we're having issues in every facet of the game from every angle except offense. Thus, even though getting healthy will help us if it happens, it might not be enough.
  19. I really don't think anybody with a concept of Clayton Richard's stuff thought he would be any good. He's just a AAAA lefty, and they are a dime a dozen.
  20. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) 5-0 LOL Hey guys, I think I was over-confident a few days ago when I said we should win this division Detroit could easily pass us in the standings in about 2-3 weeks, no doubt. Not with this starting rotation or bullpen. Detroit isn't going to pass us because they aren't any good, and you are right to say we SHOULD win the division. Just like we probably should have in 2003 and 2006. Thing is, we tend to never win when it's a close race. I think more and more by the day that our farm system is a big reason too, because as I said a second ago, you need farm system help during the dog days of July and August when people are hurt/need rest, and the Twins get it every year while we don't.
  21. Keep Richard in. The game is over, try and save the bullpen.
  22. This is why the Sox never win close divisional races under Kenny Williams, with the exception of 2005 which should have never become that close. When you get into July and August, and injuries force you to dip into your farm system, you need production. The Twins get it, and we don't.
  23. This one already has the seal of approval for a patented July/August 2008 Sox loss. A three run inning, an error which gives away a run, and trouble with a bad team.
  24. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) You're an idiot if you think he ISN'T one. I can do that too, see? jesus christ. The facts are much more on my side than yours in this disagreement. I can't believe people think Ozzie is actually a bad manager, but then again I can't believe people in general. And again, I'm not sure what the people who are impressed with Clayton Richard are watching. He may attack hitters, but he attacks them with crappy stuff.
