This team just feels and looks so much like 2003, I'm getting painful flashbacks. The biggest problem with this series is we not only gave away two games, but two to the Twins, which equates to a direct 4 games in the standings. We could easily be 4 and a half up, but instead it's 1/2 game. Hopefully Griffey gives the team a spark, and moreso, hopefully the pitching and defense (although it was the pitching moreso in Minnesota) wake up.

Hopefully Bruce learned his lesson. A lot of people deserve second chances in a lot of senarios, but you can't keep a convicted felon on scholarship and on the basketball team, those are privledges. I am glad this saga is over though. This season could be rough though, however the calvary is coming soon.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:14 PM) Ouch. That's murder on the Braves. They aren't going anywhere anytime in the near future anyways. Being built on old, pricey, injury prone stars like Chipper and Hudson isn't very fruitful.

I turned it off after the Morneau home run and didn't look back. We can't win a close game up there anymore, the Twins are in the heads of the announcers, the players, and the fans. The bigger issue is our pitching and defense still sucks, and all the Griffey trade did, as much as I love Junior, was make both worse (although losing Masset isn't huge, but it won't help).. So much pressure on this offense right now.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 11:46 PM) I love Manny sometimes. Pretty much all the time. Same here, I can't get myself to dislike him even when he acts like a diva as he has lately. Love that guy.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 11:30 PM) I think Bay can be overrated or underrated, depending on who you talk to. I do think he's feasting a bit on NL pitching, so a move to the AL might hurt his numbers a bit, though he could very well destroy the monster. I'd expect his numbers to balance out and stay similar. Not seeing NL pitching hurts him, but Boston compared to Pittsburgh for a righty power hitter is just an incredible upgrade.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:51 PM) He's a free agent after 2010. Hmm, so much for my argument then.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:45 PM) Why in the universe would Oakland want two months of Cabrera, while giving up their 24 year old closer, when they have absolutely zero chance at the playoffs this year? They wouldn't. Less than a non-story. 1. They have Brad Ziegler 2. I believe Street could leave after 2009. 3. OC brings them two high draft picks. That's life as a mid market team. Now this deal isn't going to happen, but that is why it's not illogical to bring up.

I gotta correct myself. If the Marlins make the widely rumored deal in this thread, they would likely then make a trade with the principal players being Bengie Molina and Mike Jacobs. Take it FWIW.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) Hughes can drop 35 on a team any given night, and will actually play very good defense. Gordon is gone, and for good reason. Larry Hughes is a career 41 percent shooter, and just under 30 from three point range while a pedestrian 75 from the line. He isn't scoring 35 unless his arm gets sore from all the shots he took that evening. I agree with keeping Hughes over Gordon, but let's not go overboard with Larry's ability.

Big win, let's get a split tomorrow please.

The Giants and Bengie Molina are new players in a different 3 way deal, and it's supposedly close. But we'll see, I'll believe it if I see it.

QUOTE (juddling @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 11:08 AM) actually i like that song. For me...the reason i like it is that unlike every other 'pop'ular song out there it's not featuring any rappers. You listen to some stations and i swear every other song is "Chris Brown featuring T-pain..or Ludacris featuring Akon. Heck...it seems like even when you have a decent pop song...they make an effort to cram a rap in it. A while back Christina Aguleria had a song out that i thought was pretty good. After a couple months i heard a version with a rap crammed in the middle. It didn't fit...and sounded terrible. I think these record companies actually shoot themselves in the foot somtimes with crap like that. I agree with the fact that bad rapping ruins tons of songs now (well, hip hop/rap music is horrible now, if I had been born in 1991-1993, i'd probably hate the genre). However, that doesn't change the fact that the song in question here blows. And yeah, Puddle of Mudd is really bad as well. lol.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 04:58 PM) Great trade by the Yankees. I bet Tigers were worried that Pudge would accept arbitration (assuming he's eligible). He's supposedly been horrible in their clubhouse, and I know they love Inge behind the plate. That's the only logic I can see behind this move, and even with that it's pretty bad.

What the hell happened to our pitching/defense?

QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) and what do they have to show for it? at least we have a ring. just proves they're good enough to win, what has been a weak division since it's inception for the most part, sans a few years.... The playoffs are just an exercise in who gets lucky, which is why it's so vital (and difficult) to get to October in the first place. One day people will understand this is how you win championships, get to the playoffs as much as possible and hope the good fortune falls into place. That, and have good pitching. -
An average reliever instead of two draft picks? I guess I was wrong to think teams now do realize how valuable those type a picks are. They must really think Farnsworth can help fix their bullpen (I doubt that) or that Pudge is some sort of clubhouse cancer to do this.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 12:58 AM) Go home and rethink your life. But yeah, that song is brutal. I'm not really known for having some sort of high standards on what is attractive with women at all, but I just don't see it with her.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 01:00 AM) GMAFB! Konerko has absolutely nothing to do with how awful our pitching has been of late. No, but at the same time, he's probably been the worst player on the team since he came back, and his prescence on the field has seemed to have a negative affect on us all year for some reason. I wonder what our record is with and without PK on the field. -

QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 12:39 AM) well it is probably just a coincidence but konerko came back on the 8th. just sayin' I don't believe in coincidences, however you can't blame Paulie for the fact the pitching staff has fallen off or for all of the errors. However, it is undebateable that his play in the field and at the plate have been awful, and it also seems that he has a negative affect on the team for one reason or another, beyond even his own poor play. -

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 07:30 PM) Where is Dan Bazuin, and why did we spend a 2nd rd pick on him? Saw him play three times when he was in college, and thought he was a late round pick at best. Hopefully I was wrong though. -
Why is the song "I Kissed a Girl" so popular? The young lady who sings it has a horrible voice and isn't really all that attractive, plus the risque factor in girl on girl kissing isn't really as wild as people seem to think.

I have a friend in Lomita and she said that although it was obvious what was happening, all it did at her house was spill her coffee and knock over one small picture. In general though, sounds like this isn't too bad though. I just hope the big one isn't coming anytime soon out there.

Something appears to have happened on our off day July 7th. I say this because we're a mediocre 8-9 since then, as our pitching staff that was 1st or 2nd in the AL behind Oakland for a long time just fell off the planet. Now to be fair, 11 of the 17 games have been on the road, but at the same time, we lost a home series to KANSAS CITY, and more disturbing is our pitching and defense. In those 17 games, the Sox made 20 errors, with no stretch of more than 2 errorless games (and there was only one of those). That doesn't even include plays like Paul Konerko's bad pickoff throw tonight, Paul Konerko's drop on a should be double play in Kansas City, another botched PK pickoff throw in Texas, and so on. As for the pitching, in this span, the Sox have given up 7, 6, 4, 7, 7, 12, 5, 9, 8, 6, 2, 8, 5, 6, 6, 7, and 6 runs. That is just plain awful, and puts an incredible amount of pressure on our offense. Giving up 5+ runs in 15 of 17 games could realistically lead to a much worse stretch than 8-9, especially with as much as we've been on the road, so we should thank the offense. But in the meantime, the pitching (both starting and relief) and defense better get their heads out of their asses, or we're in deep s***. Injuries haven't helped us, but our sloppy play lately has been atrocious.

Good news. Only a matter of time before Ben is traded now that this is done.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) My guess is Semrau stays 4 years, graduates and then just doesn't return on scholarship for a 5th season. It would be a major upset if this is not the senario that plays out. Also, keep in mind Jamar only had 2 years left anyways as he would have been a 4th year junior this year (God I hope he's gone, that's why I speak in past tense). Anyways, today's news showed how bad Illinois' program has fallen the last couple years (and perhaps including this year), but also at the same time how much incredible talent will arrive in 2009 and 2010. Very strange to watch, but the calvary is certainly coming soon.
