QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) Crede probably would have dove forward for that ball. And thrown it into the stands if he had got to it.

Wow, Hawk rips on one of our players. That's one good result of him being in a bad mood I guess, him doing that for once.

NOW if Dye wants to yell at OC, he'd be absolutely right. Making the 3rd out at 3rd base, while trying to steal, with Dye up, when the pitcher hadn't even thrown the ball. That might be the dumbest play I've seen us make all season, boy I hope Jenks is good and it doesn't hurt us.

Official 2008-2009 College Football Thread
QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 08:50 PM) Michigan will be better than 5-7, guaranteed. 7-5 is more like it. They'll be interesting to watch on offense, but they'll be in every game. They'll also be better conditioned than ever (and every other team) in the 4th quarter. It's possible they go 7-5, but they are not even close to a top 25 team, have no business being there. Their defense will keep them in games, but no matter how well conditioned they are, their offense still sucks and that means their defense is going to be overused and tired in the 4th quarter of close games.

I don't get why Hawk is in such a bad mood. Yeah we aren't playing well, but we're still right in the race.

How much worse than BA does Wise seem
First of all, the defense is for sure more important when you have a defensive outfield like ours (aka not very fast and no range). As for Wise, I don't think he's all that great of a defender, as he plays too shallow, especially for a guy with his speed when coming in is easier than going back. Anderson obviously can't steal bases like Wise, but he can be an effective pinch runner because he does have speed. Combine that with the fact that the numbers say Wise's offensive numbers will go down in due time, and I'd for sure rather have BA on the roster if I could only pick one. That's just my opinion though, there are reasons why you could want Wise around too, this isn't an open and shut case.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 09:35 PM) Carlos Gomez is a HOF how dare you question his abilities! Because he can't hit. He had mediocre minor league numbers, and he has numbers that border on pathetic in the major leagues. Other than that small point, I guess Hawk is right about him. (And yes, I know you were being sarcastic. I'm annoyed at Hawk, now I remember why I usually put the radio on).

Another Carlos Gomez mention. HAWK, HE'S AN AWFUL PLAYER RIGHT NOW. HE SHOULD BE IN TRIPLE A. GET OVER IT.

Griffey having a great night. And I should say had a great night, as Ozzie correctly pinch runs Anderson for him and he'll be in CF now.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) I wish Guillen would have Thornton or Dotel pitch though. I don't think I trust anybody in our bullpen right now. Ozzie really should just look at the magic 8 ball before pitching changes right now, because everybody has been pathetic lately.

QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) I'm just trying to figure out why Vazquez was taken out after only 98 pitches... Probably because he looked horrible last inning.

Here it comes again. It is amazing to me that for three months, we had maybe the best bullpen in baseball, but now for the last month or so, we've had one of the worst.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) Here is your precious golden god Hawk. How do you like him now. The Twins are everything Hawk wishes the Sox were I think. Young, not very talented, not a lot of home runs, but "clutch" and overachieving.

We made a really bad pitcher look really good that inning, yikes.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 09:08 PM) Just turned the game on. How impressive was Griffey at the plate so far? Two RBI singles and a flyout that would be a home run in about 80 percent of major league ballparks.

With Javy at 98 pitches and tiring, combined with our bullpen, we better get some more runs.
-

I gotta go with whoever said they hate Javy earlier in this thread. He is still having a good outing overall, but he comes out and gives up runs immediately after he gets the comfortable lead. Drives you nuts.

Of all the guys I've ever seen with good stuff, Javy has to be the biggest pussy among them. He is just terrified of the bat.

Indians leave the bases loaded, still 1-1. Poop, but hey a nice inning for our guys.

Haha, we aren't hitting the ball hard AT ALL this inning, yet 3 runs. Earlier, we crush it and get next to nothing. Ahh baseball is a beautiful game.
