QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 8, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) No reason to put Bobby in today...Who hasn't worked lately? When's the last time the lefties pitched? I could see why you'd put him in with the lack of work lately, but we might need him in some actual save spots on the road, especially next series in Seattle. Right elbow strain for Neshek they say, the MRI might not be as kind as that diagnosis though.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 8, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) Happens to him a lot...he seems to guess a lot on pitches, which isn't a terrible thing. Indeed, better to guess and stick with it than be caught in between like a lot of our hitters are right now.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 8, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) Juan Uribe a standing ovation for a slide!!!!!! Talk about educated fans. Nice I was VERY encouraged to see that. Bad throw to 1st/bad catch at 1st gets the Sox another run, 6-2.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 8, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) AJ???? Nope, and I'm not sure why Toby is batting with a lefty catcher and better hitter available to use. Double play ball, but a GREAT slide by Uribe gets the Sox a run. Well done Juan.

Walked Uribe on 4 pitches. Amazing. Chance to put it away here, loaded with 1 out.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 8, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) He's not comparing Linebrink to Mariano, he's comparing the situation. Maybe it isn't the best comparison, but it hold water. The fact of the matter is that people here think they are much better managers than Ozzie. How many Major League wins do you guys have as manager? So the fact we haven't won games as a manger makes Ozzie a good manager? Whatever you say. The fact is Ozzie does a poor job managing the bullpen. He does almost everything else well, but he's awful at bullpen mixing and matching. Most managers suck at something, but when it's as important as the bullpen it hurts the team. Luckily it hasn't today.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 8, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) It's am example. And he's right anyway. Please don't start that crap. He's right? Rivera is better against lefties than most of the best lefty relievers in the history of baseball. It's a terrible example, not me starting something.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 8, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) was it hit back at him or did a pitch pop something? Pitch popped something. I think he screwed up his elbow, looked pretty bad.
-
QUOTE (Soxpranos @ May 8, 2008 -> 03:53 PM) I hear you, nobody ever criticized Torre when he brought Mariano in the 8th to face 5 out of 6 lefties. If it is so easy to manage , get an interview. The fact you just compared a situation involving Scott Linebrink to Mariano Rivera proves you don't belong in this conversation.

Neshek has injured his hand or elbow, and he's done. That could be a long term injury based on how that looked.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 8, 2008 -> 03:49 PM) People here make me sick. When Ozzie plays the match-ups and brings in Logan/Thornton, he's wrong and should have brought in his set-up man. But when he brings in his set-up man, he's wrong for not bringing in the LOOGY. Give me a f***ing break. If he had brought in a lefty for Mauer and Morneau and been burned, i'd have blamed the players (whoever was pitching) for not performing. All you can do is use common sense and play matchups, which Ozzie didn't do in the 8th. It's not that hard to grasp.

QUOTE (G&T @ May 8, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) When the bullpen is good, the manager looks good. When you have three lefties that can all hit (especially the first two) all face a righty reliever in the 8th inning, it's bad managing. I'm VERY happy we got away with it though.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 8, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) When you have Crede and Toby doing a rundown, the lack of speed makes it hard to get a quick out. Speed is irrelevant if you do a run down right, and we can't. It's so basic too, just a pet peeve of mine to see us bad in every run down.
-
Lefty should be in for Kubel too, more bad managing. Linebrink gets out of it, and our manager somehow gets away with not doing his job. PHEW!!
-
ANOTHER badly executed run down and Cuddyer makes 2nd. At least we got the 2nd out and didn't let a run score, but we haven't done a run down well all year. The contact play down 2 is not very smart baseball.
-
Twins chasing a lot of fastballs high and out of the zone. Another wild pitch, Mauer to 3rd. Awful.
-
Ozzie gets away with murder there, nice play by Toby and Mauer doesn't even get to 3rd.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 8, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) don't get me wrong, Linebrink has been fine this year, but with those two guys coming up, you have to but Thorton or Boone in The only person on earth that doesn't realize it is our manager unfortunately. Wild pitch, Mauer to 2nd. It continues.
-
Mauer reaches, SHOCKING!! Ozzie is such a retard sometimes.
-
The Cell's legendary swirling winds save Konerko an at bat. EDIT: Just got him one extra pitch to make an out. Blah.
-
Thome this year: vs right: .190/.347/.342/.689 in 79 AB vs. left: .265/.324/.618/.942 in 34 AB Who knew?
-
Thome entered today with a .942 OPS against lefties this year. So on second thought, this might be the correct play.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ May 8, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) PH Anderson Agreed, but it'll never happen.
-
BIG time 2 out hitting by Carlos. A two run lead might still not be enough with Linebrink vs. Mauer and Morneau, but it helps.
