  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 15, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) And McCain is onboard with Bush: McCain: Obama Naive and Inexperienced I wouldn't say that. He didn't compare Obama to Nazi appeasers, he just doesn't agree with talking to some of our worst enemies. To be honest, I'd love to see a poll on THIS, because the results would be fascinating from the American people. Of course, they never do polls on important stuff like this, they just keep polling for a democratic race which is over.
  2. The Obama campaign does need to reel in Mrs. Obama a bit. She hasn't said anything that is going to really hurt Obama yet IMO, but she's been on the verge enough that they might want to shut her up. After all, Hillary didn't ever really shut up Bill, and it hurt her badly.
  3. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 15, 2008 -> 09:25 AM) Bush Compares Obama To Nazi Appeasers This kind of thing is why I think Obama might win after all. Even when he makes a point that a lot of people would disagree with (talking with our enemies, I don't think he realizes how many people will not like that idea in this country), an idiot from the right goes at it the wrong way. Even the point of comparing terrorists to nazi's is certainly valid in terms of the death and terror they cause, but of course Bush has to go and compare Obama to nazi appeasers, which is WAY over the line, wrong, and plain old stupid. I know one thing: Our President is an idiot.
  4. Both road teams blew great chances to win last night. Great games though.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 15, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) D-Backs fans b**** about Quentin. Phillies fans b**** about Floyd. Rangers fans have long b****ed about Danks. KW does thing right once in a while. Even KW's harshest critics (I'd be in that group) would admit he has an outstanding record with making trades.
  6. QUOTE (rangercal @ May 15, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) Considering Braun got 8 Years/ 45 Mil Braun proved himself over the course of almost a full season last year and so for the same timespan Q has this year. Q is a lot less proven and plays a less valuable position 3b>>LF. Of course Q will likely be our future rightfielder. Still, 3b>RF. If Kenny waits until the end of the year Q will probably command a pricetag of 8 years 50-60 mil imo (given Q keeps up his current pace). Good point on Braun, but he's an AWFUL defender with no true position right now which hurts his cause, plus I think he could have got significantly more money if he had been a harder bargain.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 15, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) With where he is in relation to FA, I don't think that's a fair amount of $. For 8 years, with a guy who's only 5 years away from FA, you'd have to go to Hanley money. 8 years, $70 million guaranteed, I might see as more fair, that's a hell of a team discount, but that's a hell of a lot of injury insurance also. He hasn't earned Hanley type money, Hanley is the best player in baseball right now and this is his 3rd year doing what he does in the majors. I think if we head towards the middle (8/55), your more likely where he would cost.
  8. I don't like doing things such as this as early as CQ is into the game, but his pedigree (1st round pick despite having had tommy john surgery before the draft, all world player in high school and college against high level opponents, .953 lifetime OPS in the minors) says that this start isn't a fluke at all. The one concern with Q is health, since he's already had two major injuries (partially torn left labrum, tommy john surgery), but if he stays healthy I'd be surprised if he isn't a 900 type OPS player consistently, if not closer to 950. With that in mind, I'd say do it. I'm not sure what the price would be, but if he stays healthy and does what he's capable of, the deal will be a super bargain in a few years and having a really good player happy financially is a plus.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 15, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) Those aren't colas. I was going for colas. And I should have added a third poll question - fountain, can, glass bottle or plastic bottle? Glass bottle might actually be the best, but I have no idea where to find it.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 15, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) It's pop. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong. Period. Correct, this isn't even up for debate. QUOTE (Felix @ May 15, 2008 -> 01:27 PM) Soda, everyone that calls it pop is just being stupid. Your from New Jersey right? I think I remember that correctly. Anyways, it's fine if you think that. Your completely wrong and misinformed, but we all have things which we are wrong about.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 15, 2008 -> 11:22 AM) Manny gave a fan in the outfield a high five after his momentum carried him into the wall...he then proceeded to hit the cutoff man you doubled off the runner at first haha...i love Manny. I know many people are annoyed by him, but he truly is the definition of someone who loves what he does Absolutely LOVE Manny. I can't stand anything Red Sox or Indians and those are the only two teams he's played on of course, but I love that guy. The best right handed hitter I've ever seen behind Frank (and even that is close), and he's just on his own planet with how bat s*** crazy he is.
  12. As "Ocho Cinco" aka Chad Johnson so perfectly put it: "Coke. From McDonalds". But yeah, I prefer any form of fountain coca cola by far, and I'm not a fan of any sort of pop in a can. Which brings me to my next point, as a self respecting lifelong Chicagoan, of course I call it pop. That's a given.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 14, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) YEAH, THIS COLLAR'S POPPED, CUZ IM THE F***ING MAN, AND EVERYONE HERE NEEDS TO KNOW IT NOT NOW CHIEF, IM IN THE f***ING ZONE!!
  14. They are definitely doing that with Floyd, it's obvious. I think as he gets more and more experience throwing this way, his walk totals will go down (he's walked a bit too many this year) and his general control will improve. With his stuff, if you combine control and movement, he could mantain a high level of pitching like he's shown so far this year IMO. On a side note, it seems like we are using this same approach with Lance Broadway. This year, after having control issues last year, he has had great control at AAA and been generally dominant. His stuff is not close to as good as Gavin's, but the improvement Broadway has shown, combined with his start for the Sox late last year gives some hope with Lance.
  15. Way to go Brandon Allen, gotta love those people born on 02/12/1986. Actually, he's been on fire lately and is up to .305/.346/.594/.939 this year. He still doesn't walk enough (especially with as much as he strikes out), but he hits for pretty good average and has very good power as a big, lefty batting 1st basemen. As for Getz, I thought last year that he'd be a better option that Richar long term once he was ready, so yeah i'm a huge fan. He doesn't stand out as much, but he's a very solid all around player, and we don't really have many guys like that. Steady influences up the middle are always a plus, and I think he'll be ready to provide that by next year, if not earlier.
  16. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 14, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) so, does edwards head straight to Kentucky to close the gap on Clinton? Or is this just a symbolic speech and he goes back to his regular life? Not worth the time. They could gain a few, maybe several points in Kentucky with Edwards help I guess, but Clinton is still going to win big and Obama is still going to be the nominee in November. Everything Obama does should look towards November, including using Edwards to help gain the support of more male white voters.
  17. The endorsement of Edwards could help Obama with all the trouble he's had with white men voters. Edwards had a strong base of white male voters, and a lot of them went to Clinton when he dropped out. I still think Obama gets beat badly in KY, and this doesn't mean a lot when you consider he's going to be the nominee no matter what, but anything that might help Obama with any branch of white voters can't hurt, he needs it and needs to mend some fences with white voters before the November election.
  18. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 14, 2008 -> 08:15 AM) I want to say first that I love listening to B&B, they really crack me up. But they also dont believe in anything that is unquantifiable(sp?). Bernstein rips on anyone who mentions anything to do with momentum, he just doesnt believe that there is such a force in sports. So when they make their arguments, they are mostly based on something that they can quantify, ie. the cubs will destroy the nationals because the nationals are 10 games under .500 and the Cubs are really good, the Cubs will destroy Livan Hernandez because he is a mediocre pitcher at this stage in his life and the Cubs feast on those types of pitchers. There are no such thing as big game pitchers or hitters that live for the big moments in their eyes, only a guy who was waiting for the right pitch at the right time. And it isnt something that someone can explain to them. Peope have tried and have been shot down summarily. Its just one of their quirks It's one of the things that makes them look dumb a lot too. I agree with a lot of what they say in regards to the numbers don't lie and sports aren't as complicated as people make them seem. However, the unquantifiable happens a lot in sports, that's why it's almost impossible to gamble really well on them, and it's also why people watch. If sports were limited to the quantifiable exclusively, they'd be easy to predict and there'd be no point to watch. The weird s*** that happens in sports are why we love them, it's the truest and best form of reality television. I listen to B&B quite a bit and they are good and pretty funny, but their immediate dismissal of many senarios in sport are both stupid and make them look dumb, a lot. As for Jim Edmonds.....he's beyond done. That move will crash and burn times 10, even if Pie can't hit, he's arguably a better hitter than the current, old Jim Edmonds and at least Pie can run and field well. Makes no sense to me at all, and that's even if I look at this with a fair perspective. I don't like the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but you don't send down your best defensive OF (by far) to sign a washed up and mediocre player when your in first place and lead the league in offense.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 14, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) Before Illinois fans get worried about Griffey's ranking, he is not concentrating on AAU ball this summer and his AAU team is freaking terrible even when he does play. This isn't a Semrau situation. Yeah, the fact he stayed comfortably within the 150 despite not playing AAU and being on an awful AAU team as is would actually be something to be taken as a positive. As far as I remember, Richardson and Bertrand are right where they were before this ranking came out, and Brandon Paul continues to rise.
  20. Wolves win 4-1 in game 7 and take a great series over the Ice Hogs to advance to the West Finals. The Pat Foley annoucement will have to wait at least another week and a half, if not more. Also, Pittsburgh and Detroit are both up 3-0 in the NHL and look to be on a collison course for a meeting in the Finals.
  21. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 13, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) LMAO, who chooses the singers of the seventh inning stretch? Seriously, one of the Duran Duran lead singers? How random It was funny because I was watching the game with a friend I went to an 80's party with this weekend for about 5 innings. She was all dressed for it and I told her she "looked like a Duran Duran groupie". We both laughed and agreed that was rude of me to say, since Duran Duran was irrelevant even by 80's standards. So the game is on tonight, and shortly after I leave to go home, they show it's Duran Duran doing the 7th inning stretch. Immediately my phone rings and we laugh for about 10 minutes. /random story Anyways, Boers and Bernstein have been masters of Cub predictions this season. First they said how the Cubs would sweep Washington, and they lost 2 of 3. Then they said they'd sweep Cincy and they lost 2 of 3. Now, they say "Shawn Estes will get an ass waxing tonight" and the Cubs lose 4-3. Stay hot, fellas.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 11:55 PM) I'm absolutely a Sox fan, and I think Ozzie's time with the organization should be done. There's very little energy displayed by the team, even though they supposedly brought in more spark to the clubhouse. Besides that, his decisions to pitch to Vlad tonight were inexcusable. This team needs all the help it can get to win games, and they don't get that from their manager. I can't argue your Ozzie comments, but KW deserves the ax before Ozzie.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 11:36 PM) Terrible article by a terrible writer. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...2.column?page=2 I've said for years the reason I believe the Cubs are so popular is that more people are dumb than are smart in this world. Articles like this by Cub mouth pieces in the media make me think that statement was dead on.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 11:23 PM) If the Sox score again, one could argue Crede's fielding cost the Sox for the 3rd time in two weeks. Bootcheck is gone if they hadn't added those 4 IMO.
  25. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ May 12, 2008 -> 11:21 PM) How about 2005? Because Buerhle pitched very well then, as well. As I said, he's BEEN consistent. 05 and 06 were no mirages. Crede I disagree with to some degree, as he's had some good patches of hitting since 05. I can accept that point of view about Joe, though. But calling Beurhle's 2007 a "mirage" when he's had a lot of success seems kind of ridiculous to me. The reason I say Buehrle's 2007 was a mirage is his stuff wasn't there. His stuff has never been great, but his stuff was 200 percent better in 2005 than 2007. You just can't get people out with the stuff Buehrle is throwing now long term. He was able to somehow do it last year, but it's getting him now.
