  2. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 9, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) Obama wants to change the subject from his character and judgement to issues that matter. He should be careful what he asks for. The RNC takes him up on his offer. He has a very limited record due to lack of experience on issues that matter though, so I don't know how he goes at doing that. The only record we know of with Obama is he's the most liberal member of congress, and that won't appeal to independents as much as a lifetime moderate like McCain. Plus, if he thinks that character and judgement don't matter to the American voters, he's making a terrible mistake because they do. Most politicians at least wait until they are in office before showing bad judgement and questionable character, whereas he did it long before that.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ May 9, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) According to general manager Bill Smith, Pat Neshek is expected to miss at least three months and may be sidelined for the remainder of the season with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament. Smith said that Neshek won't be allowed to throw for at least three months and added that getting him healthy in time for spring training is the Twins' current goal. Losing Neshek is a huge blow to the Twins' bullpen, as he's gone 11-5 with a 2.91 ERA and 142/37 K/BB ratio in 120 2/3 career innings. Matt Guerrier and Juan Rincon will split setup duties in front of Joe Nathan. Sad to see, but not surprising. All of us in the gamethread at the time the injury occured kind of figured it was really bad based on the looks of it, and unfortunately we were right. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 9, 2008 -> 02:20 PM) TRAVIS HAFNER - what gives? Is this guy just slumping or did he have a fluke season? Pronk appears to be one of many victims of the tough and somewhat legit drug testing policies instituted by major league baseball in the last few years. Just doesn't have that extra "juice" off the bat. He needs to call Geovany Soto and ask for some of his HGH.
  4. Shelby is at .323/.364/.548/.912, has 4 homers, and is 7/7 in steals for W-S right now after missing the 2nd half of April due to injury. It also appears he's being used exclusively in the OF/as a DH these days.
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 10, 2008 -> 01:58 AM) The next time will be the first. Ozzie obviously disagrees with this philosophy considering he hasn't done it once this season. I know it's never going to happen, and it's bad managing. We'll probably lose a game or two (or three) this year because of Ozzie's stubborness on this subject. If Anderson isn't out there on the Sexson ball tonight, as I look at the situation in the box score, this game might have gone completely different and been a loss because Swisher never catches that. Obviously that was in the 4th and isn't that relevant here in that sense, but there will be a ball or two (or three) like that in the 8th or 9th in close games later this year, and Anderson being out there instead of Swisher could be the difference between the game going to the left column or the right one.
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ May 9, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) That Cubs song is super ghey. Yeah, that song fits that franchise and fan base perfectly: Terrible and gay. I have mentioned all the Cubs due for a regression to the means. And although Ted Lilly as a #2 starter still won't win the Cubs anything, he got off to an AWFUL start this year. So he's going through the opposite of regression to the means (sucession?) right now, because he is still a decent starter.
  7. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ May 9, 2008 -> 11:43 PM) How about those fighting fish? 21-14, best start in franchise history. I actually really enjoy watching their games. I set up my laptop with a Sox game and then put the Marlins on the TV since we get all of their games. I never really watched any games before last year (last year was my first summer down here), but I love their announcers. Even when they sucked last year, they still made it very enjoyable to watch. Rich Waltz and Tommy Hutton are glorious. I've been watching them since 2003 though, I got into them a bit that year with Cabrera and Willis, of course they did their thing against the Cubs, and I have friends down there so I've followed them for a while now. They used to have Kasper before he went to the Cubs and he and Hutton were great too doing the games. They entered this year with a payroll of 24 million, less than A-Rod makes by himself this season. I'm not sure how that's affected with today's news, but they locked up baseball's best all around player, Hanley Ramirez, for 6 years and 72 million and he'll be on the team when their new stadium opens in 2011. So yeah, love the fighting fish. Btw, off topic, but are closers blowing more games than usual so far this year? Sure as hell seems like it, this is me calling for help. I know you'll see this post Kalapse, can you find out if closers are struggling more than usual this year ie blown saves around baseball?
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 10, 2008 -> 01:37 AM) I know what day it is. The point of that post was to point out that no matter what anybody has to say about Pods, he hit the biggest HR in White Sox history. For that, he'll always have a special place in White Sox lore. You could argue it was the 3rd biggest home run of that series. Without Paulie's grand slam, we never even have the chance to have a lead, blow it, and get the game to Pods. Then, of course, Blum's home run was the reason that series only lasted 4 games instead of us perhaps losing that game and having a drawn out series. As for Pods, he could steal 100 bases this year and he's still not 1/3 the player Carlos Quentin is. So thanks for 2005, and enjoy Colorado.
  9. Brian Anderson is an ideal 4th outfielder. He still hits for no power, but he's maintaining a .270 average, is giving good at bats, and playing incredible defense. He should be in for the 8th and/or 9th of every game on defense when we have a lead.
  10. Always nice to come home to a winner. After seeing the highlights, that catch by Anderson is as good at a catch as I've ever seen a Sox OF make, wow. Anybody that says Anderson doesn't catch the double by Mauer to break up the no hitter needs to look no further than BA tonight to see that's false. As bad as we are out west, Seattle and San Francisco are AWFUL right now. Let's get a series win tomorrow and work towards that 6-4 range on this trip.
  11. QUOTE (The Critic @ May 9, 2008 -> 06:06 PM) The media and some of the posters here/sox fans with no perspective seriously makes me sick sometimes. Fixed. The media being stupid and looking to sell stuff didn't surprise me. Some of the posters here/sox fans did. Swisher and Toby Hall were two of the guys that probably were behind the doll stunt when you consider how goofy they are, yet they paint their facial hair pink for breast cancer awareness? Sexist pigs!!
  12. I usually say to pay heed to the intent more than the action itself. But when the action is this blatant in it's breaking of the law, I must say I hope the kid enjoys the clink.
  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 9, 2008 -> 12:52 PM) I did hear an interview with a white college kid who was on shore and said benson seemed to be cooperating and was sprayed when he was already on the ground. Yeah I just went to espn.com and saw a story which forced me to edit that post.
  14. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 9, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) I'm going to bring it up: Is this a race arrest? I'm not going there yet. All the people on that boat that are defending Cedric are his friends, fans, family, or groupies. So in that sense, of course they are going to defend him. I don't deny for a second that there are quite a few crooked cops out there, but I'm not going to change my mind over a case when biased witnesses that were hanging out with Cedric take his side. If they can find somebody from another boat to take his side though, that'd be different. EDIT: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3388183 With that, I take back what I just said in this post. Hopefully others were on Patch's boat and agree with what he says, the more the merrier. However, seeing that makes me seriously wonder if the police were way out of line here.
  15. This story is sad and disturbing, even by the lofty standards that the "skip every class" conference has set with their band of goons they call student/athletes over the years. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3388268
  16. Q had one of the best months I've ever seen by a Sox hitter not named Frank Thomas, so he's obvious. I'd give Danks a slight edge over Floyd for pitching.
  17. Sorry I didn't post in here earlier, I've been putting it off the last few days. In all seriousness though, senioritis is normal. You'll be fine.
  18. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...8050703932.html Obama blames the Indiana loss on Rush Limbaugh. So much for the people who scoffed at Operation Chaos. Actually I doubt Limbaugh is causing anything here, but since he started this "Operation", a lot of stuff that has made Obama look bad has happened. Not sure it it'll be enough to help McCain beat him in November though.
  19. QUOTE (scenario @ May 8, 2008 -> 04:48 PM) So... the fact that Linebrink has a career .219 BAA against lefties shouldn't factor into it, eh? Go for the left/left matchup... Thornton = career .254 against lefties Logan = career .255 vs. lefties Yeah, Ozzie... what an idiot He was being sarcastic. Your point is certainly valid, but Mauer and Morneau in their careers have hit NOWHERE NEAR as well against lefties as righties, which is the issue me and many others had. Luckily, it worked out.
  20. Ozzie is doing a good job in regards to our young starters, I will say that. He got Floyd out immediately after giving up a hit the other night, and today he could have tried to push Danks for another inning, but let him settle for a solid 5 inning, 2 run, 88 pitch outing and he even got the win. Not pushing guys that are starting to look like the future in our rotation and screwing up their arms with too much work is key and Ozzie is doing well handling that.
  21. Dye and A.J. are both showing signs they are coming out of it, and Quentin is still on fire while even Juan is hitting around .300 this month. Still too many easy outs in our lineup, but things are starting to look A LITTLE better.
  22. This could end up the rare cliche "works out for both teams" trade.
  23. Needed it BADLY with the long road trip coming up, lack of home games in May, and Minnesota being the opponent. Big win today.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 8, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) Yes, but when you're a pitcher, and you know you don't have the velocity you're accustomed to, it's easy to lose confidence. Yeah, but if your up 0-2 like he was to Young and was to Roberts at Baltimore, you can throw the fastball up high out of the zone and hope he chases it. Jenks hasn't even tried that. Hooray series win!!
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ May 8, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) Horrible hanger with 2 strikes by Jenks there. Delmon has struggled all series against fastballs...terrible pitch selection. He hasn't trusted the fastball all year, and i'm more concerned with his lack of trusting the fastball than I am the velocity of the fastball itself, if that makes sense.
