QUOTE (almagest @ May 6, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) Tigers ahead of us this year by ~18 mil. They're number 2 in all of baseball. I was referring to 2001-2005, before the payroll went way up, should have been more clear. Sorry for that, but anyways, we've had the highest payroll in the division and/or a very high payroll in general every year of KW's tenure is my point.

QUOTE (Texsox @ May 6, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) So why is it that baseball players have to be able to simulate perverted sex acts with an inflatible doll to do their jobs? That's a seperate debate, especially since it was before last nights game, and obviously didn't work. The fact that this was a pointless act in the sense it will do nothing to affect our offense is not debateable. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 6, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) People just don't understand this Tex. They all think women shouldn't be allowed in the "locker room" nor to pursue their career goals, and that it's perfectly acceptable to subject any woman who's just- doing her job to blow up dolls and the like, showing a blatant disrespect for women and their comfort. Other than the fact that I know two female sports writers, and both have told me today they understand going in that weird s*** like this comes with the territory of the job, your dead on. Look, if these guys were flauting naked in front of the reporters, or hitting on female reporters, that's a way way different story. But again, it's a doll. Until it's not a doll, the level of offense people are taking will baffle me. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 6, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) Some of you guys need to check your math. The Sox didn't have a top half payroll, let alone a Top 5 one like they have now, until 2006. The 2001-2005 campaigns, the Sox had average or below average payrolls. And in 2006, he assembled a team that won 90 games. The only complete season that you can point at and say "the team performed below payroll" is 2007. That's ONE. We've had the top payroll in the division every year of KW's regime.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 6, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) It's not Sox fans, it's the national media and the American public. It's embarrassing to see. Like the Ligue boys, like Disco Demolition, like the Black Sox scandal, like the old neighborhood, like our foul-mouthed manager. More reason for the nation to look down their noses at the Sox and their fans. The Ligue boys actually attacked somebody, disco demolition actually put people in danger with stuff blowing up, the black sox broke laws and lost on purpose, the old neighborhood was a hell hole, and our manager often says things that are specifically attacking specific groups, particularly gays. To compare all of that to a stupid blow up doll (again, a doll) with some bats around it is pretty extreme. To be honest, I never have or will own or have even seen a blow up doll in person. It's stupid and childish, but to say it's offensive is a bit of a leap since it's not and doesn't affect actual, real people. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 6, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) Not making the playoffs 87.5% of the time with a substantial payroll is failure for a GM in my book. That is really all that needs to be said. Missing the playoffs almost 90 percent of the time with a significant payroll is unacceptable.

I must admit I'm shocked at how easily offended Sox fans are. Despite the fact the polling on the sun times website says the vast majority of Sox fans don't care about this, and despite the fact that I've asked half a dozen women about this today and none cared, some people seem to have a passion about this. I'm sure the Sox have learned this lesson though: Don't do this when the locker room opens to the press. I'd bet the house this kind of stuff will continue, but it will be gone when those doors open to the press. Not sure if that will make those offended happy, but that is how it works. Things like these don't go away, they are just hidden better after controversy arises. I am just baffled that a blow up doll (not a real woman, a doll) can cause this much angst, as I am baffled that people are comparing the common workplace to a clubhouse, which you guys know better than to do. Baseball players are womanizing, cheating, trifling pigs for the most part. It's been that way since Babe Ruth was on the beer, hot dogs, and women diet, and it's never changed. People one day might learn to seperate who players are on the field and who they are off of it, and the sooner the better. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 6, 2008 -> 11:13 AM) And sorry, the yeehaw's wasn't what I think anyone who disagrees with me is like. It's what I think outsider's perceptions of Sox fans might become, which would group me into it. Why would the perception of fans become that over something the team did? And that's besides the bigger point which is our fans have a lousy perception anyways, so too late. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 6, 2008 -> 11:09 AM) I really hope they keep the radio broadcast in tact. The Weideman-Murray duo was great last season. I would agree 100 percent, especially with all 82 games on TV now so it doesn't mean your missing out on any Foley by having him on TV. -

Current poll on the sun times website: 50 percent aren't offended by the doll 32 percent are more concerned about the losing streak 18 percent are offended Just for the sake of discussion, and that was with a couple thousand votes in. -

What should be done? I see a lot of people are very angry right now, and that's your right, but what should be done to "fix" this? Complaining and being offended doesn't fix or change anything. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 6, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) I hope one day when you are doing well at a job and your boss calls you in and says, you know you have been doing a very good job, but im frustrated with our company's bad week so you are let go, that you remember thats the only way constructive change will occur. If I work somewhere for 7 years (soon to be 8), and fail at my job every year but 1, I'd sure as hell hope somebody would be smart enough to fire me. People just don't seen to get that Kenny's great success one year doesn't overshadow his failures in every single other year. You can't give yourself a lifetime of immunity with a World Championship, especially when your team is getting WORSE every year after winning it. I'd wait until the end of the season to be perfectly honest, but if we end up around .500 or worse and miss the playoffs again, with an old roster and no farm system, Kenny has to go. He won't sadly, but he should.

I will say that, regardless of if your offended by this or not (and I'm not), the guys should know better than to throw out a stunt like this. That is, unless they enjoy controversy, because the fact is everybody knew this was going to "blow up" (pardon the pun) into a big story. Carol Slezak should still be ashamed for writing that cliche ridden, predictable, mail it in column though. No new perspective in that at all. -

I've heard that within a week of the end of the Wolves season, there will be a presser to announce Foley is coming back. I can only hope such information is accurate, but that is what is making the rounds. -

That column was incredibly unoriginal and predictable. She mailed it in on that one. It's not a real woman, it's a DOLL. Even one of the biggest Sox fans I know, who is a female, thought it was funny. -
Uribe not scoring on the groundball early in the game may have been his last straw.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=ApQ....p&type=lgns This guy any good? -
Any offense that can put up a week like that has NO SHOT at making the AL playoffs, regardless of how good the pitching is (and it was very good on this trip). Welcome to 2007 except more frusterating since the pitching is at least good.
-
Until you fire the GM that built this mess, not much constructive change will occur. I give KW credit for the pitching, but this offense makes last years look like the '27 Yankees. This season is already lost, can't win with no offense, especially in the AL. Too bad we didn't realize last year our team showed it was old, and it wasn't a fluke year as many thought offensively.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2008 -> 07:34 PM) I'd do anything for the Sox to have the Cubs lineup. Even in games they lose, they find ways to get men on base. I believe they're 3rd in baseball in walks. Too bad they can't pitch, and when they do pitch, they can't defend. 8 losses out of 11 for the baby Bears as they gradually continue to come back to earth. Too bad we suck ass and thus I can't even remotely enjoy it.

GTA IV pulls Jack Thompson out of woodwork again
whitesoxfan101 replied to juddling's topic in The Filibuster
This whole thing is stupid. For example, I have literally played every single GTA game that has ever been released, right down to GTA I which came out when Playstation 1 was the cool new thing and I was only a kid. And although I can't say a ton bragging about myself, I am probably the least violent person you will ever find, despite playing every single version of this game and beating the game on most of them, which takes hours of play to do in each case. Heck, I was playing these games when I shouldn't have been (12, 13, 15, 16 years old), and it's had no real affect on me other than I enjoy the game. If you can't decipher real life from video game, your just a looney anyways. Quit blaming the video game makers for people being crazy and parents not doing their job of keeping this game out of the hands of kids.
