  1. I've never seen that one before, gotta love baseball. I guess when your 2-9 and soon to be 2-10, stuff like that happens.
  2. Bad at bat by Swisher, not good. Coulda used another run there, gotta shut it down Javy.
  3. QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) JD's got "happy feet" out there.... Wind is very tough today, although it has been all series long.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) Do you at all seem to think that Quentin tries to hit too many homers? It just doesn't seem like he ever hits any line drives...all pop ups and ground balls. Not that he doesn't hit the ball hard, but just doesn't seem to hit too many liners...his swing seems a bit loopy to me. Sounds like a perfect fit for us, no wonder Kenny wanted him. And there it is, nice and very easy inning. Keep it up Javy.
  5. Ehhh......Quentin just missed it and Crede hit it hard. Tough luck.
  6. Javy's stuff looks crisp so far, hopefully that appearance is accurate and he can get into a groove in the next few innings.
  7. Oneli spent the full season at Birmingham last year, and although he wasn't a sub 1 ERA pitcher like he was at 3 levels in 2006, he had a solid year. Oneli was 6-2 with a 2.10 ERA at Birmingham in 59 games out of the pen. He had 16 saves, while allowing 62 hits in 77 innings. He allowed only 5 home runs in 77 innings, with 20 walks, 89 k's, and a .219 average against. Impressive numbers, although he did it in pitchers heaven. However Perez was called up to not so pitcher friendly AAA Charlotte to begin this season. Very early on, he has struggled. He has a 9 ERA in 5 games (4 innings), allowing 9 hits already with 3 walks, 5 k's, and a .429 average against. Hopefully he gets it going.
  8. The home plate umps have been very pitcher friendly all series.
  9. PK hasn't been great either, but he's drawing walks and seeing the ball a bit better than Jim, and that was a badly needed hit and run for us.
  10. After a very solid year at W-S last year, Derek was promoted to Birmingham to begin this season but is coming out of the bullpen. He's been very good early on, with a 2-0 record and 1.50 ERA in his first 4 games. He's allowed only 1 hit and 1 run in 6 innings, with 5 walks, 11 k's, and an .056 average against.
  11. http://www.thedailygreen.com/environmental...?src=rss?kw=ist I'm shocked to see that some of the science involved with global warming has proven to be inaccurate.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 07:48 PM) Looks like they're going to sweep the Pirates. The Cubs have just enough talent to handle these terrible teams in the NL. And nowhere near enough talent to handle the real teams in that league, such as what is happening to them this weekend. It is going to be tough for them to beat out Milwaukee in that division, especially if Sheets or Gallardo (yes even if only one stays healthy) in the 2nd half. If both were to somehow stay healthy in the 2nd half though, the Cubs are dead. And the wildcard isn't coming from the central this year either. Their biggest problem right now is the fluke season their 2 mediocre lefty SP's had last year are coming to roost as a mass regression to the means is in process. And Ryan Dempster's ERA won't stay below 1 all year (or below 4 IMO).
  13. My friends and I have been doing a fantasy league on yahoo since 2000 and have used holds every year as a scoring category, while always wondering why it wasn't a widely regarded stat to give some props to the middle relievers. Now that the mainstream (and especially agents who can use it to get their clients more money) has gotten their hands on the hold stat, I expect it to become more and more known every year.
  14. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) Apparently the Yankess went into full panic mode regarding the Red Sox jersey buried in the foundation by a dumbass worker who blabbed about it, and they have now found and unearthed the jersey. I wouldn't call it panic mode. If the Sox were building a new stadium and somebody put a Tigers or Cubs jersey in the foundation, I'd expect us to do the same thing to get rid of the poison.
  15. Terrible thread, just as the Joe Crede thread was a terrible thread. The season is 162 games and 6 months, and just as you can't gauge teams until Memorial Day at the very earliest, the same can be said for players. If we get to June 1st and Gavin Floyd's ERA is in the 3.75 to 4.25 range with Joe Crede's OPS in the mid 800's, I'll start to reevaluate my position. But until then, these threads are just picking fights when there is nothing proven yet.
  16. Although I'm old school and a member of the "don't even look at the standings until Memorial Day" crowd, always nice to be in the spot of which this thread is titled. Hopefully this thread ends up being about 50 pages and lasts throughout the balance of the season.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) I still contend Santana is on the decline. His home run totals last year were alarming, and they've continued to be high so far this year. It's certainly possible. He's a small fellow for a pitcher at 6'0 and 200 pounds, he's not old but 29 years of age isn't young either by pitching standards, and he's already thrown over 1300 innings in the majors this decade. Gave up 3 long balls today as well.
