  1. I might believe Rose would have never gone to Illinois except that his brother works for Nike and Memphis is an Adidas school. Other than that small fact, I guess Illini fans can keep blaming Reggie when they should blame Bruce, but hey who needs facts.
  2. I can't blame Roy for taking out the big three at the same time there with 8 minutes left in the half, not with the way they were playing. I will say this, I think that coaching in general in terms of what happens in the game is overrated. Most of these high calibur coaches that get the big time talent are just awful in game coaches, I'm not sure if getting talent makes them lazy but the coaches with the great talent just don't coach well in game for the most part IMO. I thought Tyler Hansbrough was a letdown tonight too, for an "effort" guy, he was outworked quite a bit by Cole Aldrich. I'm so pleased the title game is KU/Memphis though. Maybe some of the absolutely idiotic Bruce Weber defenders that somehow still exist will see the error of their ways when two great Chicago point guards that Bruce failed to get are going at it for the title on Monday. I just hope Kansas wins however, I've always been a big fan of Rose but I want to see Bill Self silence the last of the fools that still say he can't coach on Monday (they still exist, although most of them wear orange). That's not a diss at the Illini fans here though, MOST of them seem to at least grasp reality.
  3. QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) He's not as great as Derrick Rose, but the Chicago media should start giving Collins some love. Not the right night to bring that up, as Collins had a terrible game up until those final 5 minutes (7 turnovers, out of control all game), but he's a very good player. On a random note btw, does Roy Williams EVER call timeouts when his team is playing poorly? He's even worse than Phil Jackson in that regard. Anyways.....UCLA and Carolina really should be ashamed, they both just played embarassing basketball not worthy of note besides that Kansas panic-aided run by UNC in the early/mid 2nd. Memphis and Kansas are great teams though, should be a wonderful final, but UNC and UCLA distinguished themselves both as beyond overrated tonight. I'll say Memphis wins Monday night since I picked Kansas to win it all before the tournament and the team that I picked to win it all before the tournament hast lost the title game 3 years in a row.
  4. I don't mind throwing in the towel. There are only 2 games left, and you don't want a freak injury to occur that leads to a full offseason of rehab during a game that doesn't matter.
  5. White Sox beat the Tigers, Cubs lose, Brewers are up 9 in the 7th and going to win.....if we can just get those darned red hot Royals to lose, this is close to a perfect day.
  6. QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) I don't think Lenzelle will make a decision anytime soon. It sounds like he is gonna go through the process thoroughly and weigh his options. Lenzelle is a straight A student and good kid, kind of sad he is hanging out with Richmond who doesn't even know where he is playing high school ball at next year. I still say Lenzelle ends up somewhere bigger than Illinois. Just a guess. Smith's decision is interesting since he can go wherever he wants to with his play and grades (a rare comb), but I don't know if "bigger than Illinois" makes much sense unless you mean academically or something. Even the most anti-Bruce person like me knows that with all of the recruits they have lined up, they are going to be pretty good by the time Smith would arrive. Smith obviously has plenty of time to decide though, so recruiting is not an issue unless he wants it to be. He does seem like the prototype kind of player Duke would go after, except for the fact that he's black and athletic.
  7. Unfortunately I didn't see the game since I just got back, but always great to win at Detroit. As I check out the box score. Bullpen Pierzynski Konerko Dye Quentin As long as we can split the next 2 and at least come home 3-3 after a tough start playing at Cleveland and Detroit, I'll take it.
  8. Vancouver lost tonight in regulation as well, only makes it hurt worse.
  9. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...514/1004/SPORTS Gordon going pro. The end of what as, as expected, a glorious era for him in Bloomington.
  10. My brother is a big Reds fan (weird I know, but he's been that way since he was a little kid and it's better than the Cubs) and he's been telling me about Cueto for probably 2 or 3 years now. The Cubs better get their fun now, because Cueto, Volquez, Bailey, Votto, and Bruce ain't nothing to f*** with. Even Edwin Encarnacion, who hit the walk off last night, coud still be pretty good. If they can figure out a way to keep Dunn (I think Harang is locked up long term already), those guys are going to be scary.
  11. It hurts far more, IMO, because they'd have played Detroit, who not only is a main rival but is a team the Hawks have owned this year. A first round upset of them, or even a great series, would have been another huge step for the sports revitilization here. Ah well, they'll be playing in the postseason next year. It's just a shame that next year is so far away.
  12. An absolutely crushing win for the Bulls as they outscore Cleveland 24-13 in the 4th to win on the road 101-98. They finally gain an impressive victory, and of course by the time they do (tonight) it only hurts them. I hate this team.
  13. http://blackhawks.nhl.com/team/app/?servic...rticleid=358783 All 82 games on TV, in HD, between Comcast, WGN, Versus, and NBC. Up to 20 of the games could be on WGN, which is very interesting. Overall it's a 3 year deal. (I figured this deserved it's own thread with the presser going on right now).
  14. All I can say about them is they better hit, because their pitching is garbage. When your relying on a revival from Dontrelle Willis as he moves to the real league this year to aid your staff, it's a big problem. And their bullpen might be even worse than ours.
  15. Somehow Lou has determined in 2 games that it's time to change the lineup back, as he'll now hit Soriano 1st and Theriot 2nd. If he had a clue what he was doing, he'd hit Soriano 5th, Theriot 7th or 8th (depending on how long Pie lasts, since he can't hit), and move Fukodome to the 2nd spot. Problem for the Cubs is they don't have a leadoff hitter. Cubs need a win tomorrow though, to be immediately swept at home by your main rival in the division race isn't a good thing.
  16. It's a very good hire when you consider the spot Indiana is in already (plus Gordon will go pro and then the sanctions will come down in June). But, in his 6 years without Dwyane Wade, Crean won a grand total of one game in the NCAA Tournament in his victory over Kentucky in the 1st round this year. He is as hard working of a recruiter as there is in the country though, so if Indiana is patient for a few years as the probation/sanctions and shock factor of losing 4 starters is able to wear off from this year, Crean will more than replenish the program with talent, and talent is what wins games, not coaching. Overall, I'd say it's a pretty good hire. As for Weber, I can only hope he'd leave for Marquette, and I guess it's possible with his ties to Wisconsin and Milwaukee, but i'm not holding my breath. That news is just too good to be true, and Illinois would keep these recruiting classes together as long as Jerrance Howard stayed around.
  17. fathom is happy. Sure we lost, but so did the Cubs. As for Riske, he'll be fine. He has shown he can get AL hitters out over the years, so getting to face those pathetic NL lineups should be a revival for him.
  18. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) AHEM. POSITIVE THREAD. Huh? I was complementing this years team and ripping last years. We lost because of the umpiries, that's not me ripping on any our players. And I'm not sure how you argue against 2 pitchers giving up 10 runs while recording 8 outs being bad. Buehrle will be fine I think though.
  19. QUOTE(G&T @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 05:46 PM) I think it's safe to say there will be a game this year that goes our way based on bad calls. That stuff evens out. Not like that. But whatever, can't change it now. Now they have to sweep the Indians in Cleveland just to get a series win.
  20. Giving up 10 runs is unacceptable by Buehrle and Dotel, but it's hard to blame the team itself for the loss. They did what was necessary to win the game and had it taken away by poor employee performance. Maybe it will be different this year, we probably just quit after it gets to 7-2 in a game like this last year.
  21. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) Thats why your posting here and in chats .. while Ozzie is on the bench and Kenny the GM. Huh? Masset was good in a similar spot early last year and turned out to be garbage. What does this have to do with anything? If we go 72-90 again, will you post this? Ignorance is bliss I suppose.
  22. I am aware the whining isn't going to do anything, but we still lost a game directly due to the umpires on opening day. If your not expecting anger over that, then your being a bit silly.
  23. QUOTE(The Beast @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 05:30 PM) Say we scored the 2 runs or what have you, would we have won if Dotel imploded like he did? I will never blame a baseball game on an umpire like that. Ever. Hold me to that. That's pretty ignorant to say if you saw todays game. It's irrevocable fact that 3 missed calls cost us 3 runs, not to mention the fact that we'd have still been batting after 3 of the missed calls so it could have been more. The umpires decided todays game. It might be the first time I've actually seen that undeniably happen today, so your theory on umps is usually sound, but that's what happened today.
  24. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 05:28 PM) I grow tired of scoring 7 and 8 runs and losing 90% of the time! We scored (at least) 11 runs today. Hard to win a game when the people who control the rules and pace of the game are wearing the opponents jerseys.
  25. I probably won't even watch another game in this series. I can't watch knowing we are really 1-0, and I really can't watch that crew.
