My bracket looks awfully good except for this region. Screw you NCAA Selection Crew for putting together this embarassing group of teams. Although, on a realistic, me not being bitter note.......UConn vs. UCLA is the real regional championship here IMO, I don't think anybody in this region can even stay within 10 points of UCLA other than the Huskies (and they have been mediocre lately too).

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) Easily the best defensive effort I've seen from K-State all year. I thought USC was a mortal lock for 80 against them given their good efficiency and KSU's propensity for allowing big totals, but they really stepped up. Yeah, if they play D like that again Saturday, Wisconsin is done. Of course, K State is super inconsistent so I'd be surprised if they do.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) It's the way it goes. Duke is given a win in the 1st round and now will make a tourney run. I'm used to this s***. That's different though. Those Duke teams were actually good and had legit, solid NBA players on it, whereas this Duke team doesn't have a single guy that will sniff long term starting, let alone an all star game, and is very mediocre in terms of interior players. They will be done Saturday.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) What the hell does Michigan's current coach have anything to do with any of this????? You read, right? He's been nothing but shady since he left West Virginia, so for a Michigan fan to call shenanigans towards an Ohio State fan right now is hypocrisy at it's finest. -
It is AMAZING how bad this region is. If not for the gift of 13-3 in fouls from the refs in the first half for Duke, Belmont is moving on. I might be wrong on Arizona, but the winner of Arizona/West Virginia is beating Duke either way.

Amusing story about Wrigley Field naming rights

Haha a branch of the Cubs actually does something right for once, nice. I'm glad to see it though, that whole anti-Tribune campaign the Sun-Times is doing to try and sell papers is obnoxious. -
Baylor proved in their last 2 games they aren't all that good, but they'd have won 10 or 11 games within the Big 10 just because they can score points, something most teams within the league can't do. Problem for them is, they ran into a Purdue team today that can score points too.

Well I'll say this: Those picks will win you a lot of money if they are right and your in any pools, because nobody else will have picks anything like that. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) I almost went all chalk for the most part just because most of these teams are seeded pretty good this year. I went outside of chalk for almost all Big 10 games because I dont believe that the Big 10 is as bad as people think. So you have 3 or 4 Big ten teams in the sweet 16? Wow. -
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 03:53 PM) Big 10 is the worst conference, I hope everyone picked them all to lose in the first round.... ;> Bah it's still a horrid league, the seeds are just holding. I'd be shocked if more than one Big 10 team is still around on Monday morning.

Wish I had just been boring and took both 6 seeds right now. A lot of people filled out chalk brackets this year and I think they are going to be the ones doing well, which is a shame because that is just boring to do. -
Two former Illini coaches in the 2nd round, interesting. KU will blow UNLV away though.
-
One of these days, I'm going to be boring and pick chalk like the people that win these things every year. On a side note, Marquette could beat Stanford. They'll get killed by their bigs, but Stanford's guards are a joke. The Golden Eagles should just press all game.

lol @ the bitter Michigan fan accusing Ohio State of payout. You do know who your current coach is, right? Well that, and you do know the history of your basketball program, right? -
I can't put into words how dumb a Fields for Roberts deal would be. I am sure even Kenny wouldn't do that.
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) BTW if this is true, it gives less credibility to front office saying crede will start...cuz 1 week ago they said uribe had the upper hand at 2b, and here we are letting him go Well of course you are correct there, but people here are just panicking about the Crede/Fields thing because starting Joe and sending Fields to AAA is exactly the type of thing our organization would do. As for a Roberts trade......this does point towards that, but what the hell can we give them? We have nothing.
-
If this move means it's Ramirez's job like I am reading from this.............I just hope he's ready.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) Buehrle is overrated? Based on the way he's being looked at going into this season compared to the way he's pitched the last two seasons (although he was a lot better last year), I'd say he is. And Buehrle might be my favorite player, but he's a #3 starter right now on a good team, and is regarded as a 1 and a half but a lot of people.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) If we offered up Quentin, he might well be more valuable than anything the Cubs have remaining that they could offer. And it would be an idiotic move on the Sox part. That's true, but I agree it would be an idiotic move by us so I'm hoping that's not on the table.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) Do you consider Mark Buehrle, Bobby Jenks, and Paul Konerko to be overrated? Buehrle yes, Jenks no, Konerko is dependent on who you ask.
-
If the Cubs don't have the horses to trade for Roberts, we sure as hell don't. And I wasn't aware that the claimer would have to pay Uribe's salary. In that case, I would think he will clear unless there is one team out there dumber than I'd expect (I can't even imagine Baltimore is that dumb).
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) Its not our money. Whatever, it's just sad to see a GM spend 9.5 million dollars on two guys for a season's payroll, and all he's going to get for it is a B level prospect and/or costing major league time for the future 3rd baseman in the process of trying to get that B level prospect.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) Well...I wasn't willing to say that renegotiating Uribe's contract before trading for Cabrera was a mistake a few months ago when that all went down. But today, this officially moves me into the camp of saying it was a mistake to re-up with Uribe. How can you re-up with a guy and then 4 months later cut him before he's played a game of baseball? Because Kenny Williams is your gm. That's 9.5 million dollars now on Crede and Uribe for this year alone, we DFA'd one within four months, and we can't beg anybody to trade for the other. Now that is excellence in management right there. On a side note, hopefully this means they think Ramirez is ready to roll, and hopefully if so they are right.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) Man, if only people outside of Sox fans could see how much as a fanbase we overrate Joe Crede. Im not sure theres any fan of another team that would trade their 3B for Crede. As long as there are members of the 2005 team remaining, this problem will exist. Sox fans simple overrate anybody in connection with that team, from KW to Ozzie to the players, and nobody is more overrated perhaps from that squad that Joe Crede.
