  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 05:00 PM) How are Obama's Christian minister's statements causing anti-Islam backlash? They won't, maybe I should have said more people in this country believe Obama is of Islam in faith that people realize. I know it lacks any merit, but people believe what they want to.
  2. If the campaign involves religion as a topic for either Obama or McCain, it's a bad thing. They both have what could be best descriped as sketchy and what could worst be descriped as flat our scary backgrounds with their religious beliefs. However, there will be MUCH more backlash over what Obama's pastor said than what McCain's spiritual advisor said, because there are a lot more anti-Islam people in America than I think most realize (which is pretty sad).
  3. Arkansas just defeated Vanderbilt in a mild upset, 81-75. If there was any doubt before, this win ends it and Arkansas is for sure in the field of 65 IMO.
  4. QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) Victimless crime. Legalize it along with prostitution, hard drugs, gambling, ticket scalping etc. Its ridiculous how much we pay in taxes to imprison marijuana offenders. Who the hell are you, Robert Downey Jr?
  5. Wisconsin won an ugly one earlier by a comfortable margin, and Ohio State just went pop. Even with the events of yesterday, I just don't think you can justify the idea that Ohio State is one of the 34 best teams to not win their conference tournament.
  6. Virginia Tech gets their must win game today. They can assure themselves a spot with a win against UNC tomorrow, however if they do what I'd expect and lose a respectable, 8 to 10 point decision.......they are firmly on the bubble. However, with all these other bubble teams losing, they'd still have a shot.
  7. Once again, the referees decide a game. Tennessee is up two with under 5 seconds left, and South Carolina misses a three pointer. On the rebound, Tyler Smith of Tennessee shoves a USC player literally out of bounds. But, instead of Carolina having 2 free throws with about 2 seconds left that could tie it, no call, Tennessee wins. The refs should all be fired nationwide after this season, what a joke. This call might have been the worst and most obvious miss of them all in the past week or so, which is saying a lot.
  8. That dunk is just NASTY, Stanley Robinson is one of the best athletes in the country and Alexander just made him his b**** right there. I've always enjoyed watching Alexander's game as he has surefire NBA ability, but he's really stepping up the last month, and not surprisingly with that in mind, so is West Virginia.
  9. I'd be willing to guess that at least a couple or few people here will bid on things in this, so I just want to say that everybody at NIU is greatly appreciative of support from all the biders, as well as the White Sox themselves. Every little gesture, any donation, it all means a lot and it all helps.
  10. More bubbles potentially busting tonight: Oregon Arizona Mississippi Maryland Massachuesetts New Mexico The committee has a VERY tough job ahead of them, moreso than any year I can remember because so many bubble teams are blowing great chances to distinguish themselves. I'd bet one or two of those teams might still end up getting in even with their losses today. EDIT: The Bones beat me to it. Ah well.
  11. Notre Dame actually got some legit point guard play from Jackson tonight (9 times, 2 turnovers)....but it's just hard to win when you don't even care on defense.
  12. The defending national champs see their bubble go pop, as Alabama defeats Florida. I'd be beyond shocked if the Gators make it in.
  13. Well I thought Baylor, like Miami of Florida, was going to just ease into a win over a lousy #12 seed today and lock themselves into the tournament by getting another win/avoiding a bad loss. However, Baylor loses, and now I have no idea where the hell they are except firmly on the bubble after this bad of a loss. The other interesting point here is Colorado won their only meeting with Oklahoma, who they will play tomorrow with this upset today, by 14. Go figure. Anyways, Baylor was a 9 before today in bracketology, so perhaps they will still make it, but they have to sweat it out big time now.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 04:27 PM) I honestly wouldn't be so sure either way with them. Too many bubble teams are losing right now to completely disregard Nova imo. When a bubble team decides they want to win a game then I might be with you but until than, Nova still has a shot. That's true, but it's going to take a lot of weird s*** for Nova to make it even still. Then again, Baylor is down 4 with 30 seconds left to Colorado, so maybe I shouldn't rule such things out.
  15. Villanova is done, they had to get a win today and losing by 19 only makes things worse.
  16. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) I guess I just can't recall the last time a team making the tourney who had a record below .500. Yes I do know the ivy league has no tourney, their season was over last week or something. It's very rare you see a team under .500 win a league tourney, and when it does happen it's almost always in a mid major league, so your not that far off track.
  17. I think they were in anyways, but the win today locks Miami of Florida into the field of 65 IMO.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) Arizona St. got screwed. What a f***ing joke that over the back call was. Officiating around college basketball is beyond atrocious. Agreed on the second part. I didn't see the game so I can't comment on the first part, but I'll take your word for it with the way UCLA's last two games were officiated at the end. Seems like the PAC 10 officials has a thing for the LA teams. Arizona State is in trouble now, they were firmly on the bubble before today, and I think this loss might put them into the NIT. Oregon and Arizona need wins in the worst way later.
  19. The only league that doesn't determine their automatic bid based on who wins their league tournament is the Ivy League, because they are the only one that doesn't have a tournament. I thought everybody knew that though.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) I dont know how you can blame todays game on the coaching. He has absolute no talent on this team and the seniors are a bunch of idiots and I cant wait for them to all be gone. Last year we atleast had Carter and McBride. They were up 10 on a mediocre team without their two best players with under 5 minutes to go, and had to get a blown assignment aided layup to win the game by one. If the players are good enough to build a 10 point lead in the first 36 minutes, they should at least be able to hold on for the last 4, except for the fact Bruce had them go into the quasi four corners look which already lost them the Washington and Va Tech games the last two seasons. I'm just glad they found a way to win though, seeing them lose every game like this is horrible.
  21. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) Coaching had nothing to do with them almost blowing that game. They missed wide open looks and FTs. There isn't any talent and that is on Weber but the coaching was not an issue. There isn't any talent on this team obviously, but you can't just magically turn it off up double digits like Illinois did today with 4:30 left. Just like they turned it off with 5 minutes left against Washington in 2006 up double digits, just like they turned it off last year against Virginia Tech up double digits with 4 minutes remaining. You've watched all those games, you know the trend. Yeah the talent isn't there, but for you to outplay your oppnent for 35 or 36 mintues by double digits, and then just go four corners and shut it off like Bruce's teams do every year in March, it's just amazingly bad coaching to me. Now FOURTUNATELY.....Penn State blew an assignment on defense and gave the layup up today, so Illinois didn't lose like they did in those other two examples, but it doesn't change the fact that the coaching down the stretch was awful (although to be fair, the level of play by the players was too, but it still does not excuse Bruce). The one thing I will say though is a win like that is beneficial to all the players coming back next season. Just to get over that mental stigma of losing every single close game except Missouri and get a win like that in a league game is a plus going into the offseason, even if they lose tomorrow.
  22. If not for that layup, Illinois would have had their season ending loss be a game in which they blew a double digit lead with under 5 minutes left, FOR THE THIRD STRAIGHT SEASON. I'm glad they won, but it just amazes me how poorly coached they are. Hopefully they at least give Purdue a game.
  23. I forgot to mention in the point guard debate the other day that Mike North does think Deron Williams is the best player in the NBA. I know that has no relevance, I just love the idea that somebody can actually be dumb enough to think that.
  24. I know the PAC-10 is the best league in America, but there is NO EXCUSE for Arizona to have finished 7th in that league with the talent they have. They have 2 no doubt lottery picks in their starting 5 with Budinger and Bayless, a solid/versatile veteran in Jawann McClellan, one of America'a most explosive guards under 6' in Nic Wise, and Jordan Hill, another future 1st round pick, maybe even another lottery pick. I know they've had injuries, but they are WAY better than 7th in the PAC-10, and I think they could be dangerous in the big dance if they make it that far.
  25. http://www.nypost.com/seven/03122008/news/...ley/photo01.htm Pics of Spitzer's hooker, identifed as Ashley Dupre. If that is a "seven dimaond girl", then the business must not be great. I'm underwhelemed. The paper also says that Spitzer has used hookers for 10 years!! http://www.nypost.com/seven/03112008/news/...__so_101444.htm
