  1. #1 Drake vs. #4 Creighton #2 Illinois State vs. #6 Northern Iowa Matt Shaw went out playing well, but it's just hard to win when you can't even make it to 50 points. Big break for the Redbirds drawing UNI tomorrow, they aren't the strongest team and the huge SIU crowds will be gone.
  2. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) Well.. you've always hated Thomas. You know my stance on the guy (S-T-U-D) I'll keep saying this. If we trade T2, we will seriously regret it. (3X worse than Chandler, who many claim is great) Talentwise, I agree with you. However, contrary to popular belief, Tyson had a very good attitude and seemed like a legit good guy in the locker room, whereas Tyrus is causing all kinds of hell and skipping practice just because he feels like it. Tyrus hasn't earned the right to be a little b**** like that (to say the least), so although I think his talent might haunt us in a trade, you could make the case for dumping him due to his attitude alone (which again, contrary to popular belief, wasn't the case with Tyson at all).
  3. What a terrible decision by Bradley to go for 2 there, they deserved what they got in losing just for doing something that stupid alone. Creighton, as usual, looking dangerous in Arch Madness, and in this case, they are desperately trying to get wins as they are firmly on the bubble. I'd say they were done if they lost today, and they'll still have to beat Drake now on Saturday to have any shot at getting in IMO. But yeah, Creighton 74, Bradley 70 is the final.
  4. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) Am I wrong or is Massett showing good stuff this spring? 4 IP, 5 hits, 1 walk, ZERO strikeouts today. Those periphials just don't get it done.
  5. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 08:04 AM) I'm really hoping UNC-Asheville and Alabama State make the tourney for simple reasons. I really wanna see Kenny George b/c he's 7'8" and i really want to hear the commentators have to talk about Chief Kickingstallion-Sims for the name alone. HA same here on both counts, I've been rooting for those 2 teams since I saw them on ESPNU in January. I don't think we are alone either, although you know they'll just call him "Big Chief" if Alabama State makes the tournament, despite the fact Big Chief might offend native americans.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 01:09 AM) Diamond Taylor from St. Joes in Chicago commits to Wisconsin. Very solid player and recruit for Wisconsin. Typical Wisconsin recruit, very solid player and very underrated. He'll fit right in there. Also, Illinois got a verbal from JUCO PF Dominique Keller from Texas. He's the #19 JUCO in the nation on juco express and #12 on hoopsmasters. I have no idea if this kid is any good, but he's a front line player which Illinois badly needs, and he is just taking what was an open scholarship (due to Carlwell leaving) for the 2 years he'll be on campus. Thus it's a low risk and high reward move worth a shot. Link to Keller commit: http://media.www.dailyillini.com/media/sto...s-3258358.shtml
  7. To be fair, I thought Stanford got away with a clear charge with 7 seconds left on the basket that gave them the lead, but yeah that foul with 2 seconds left was nonsense. Stanford is legit though, this is the first time they impressed me in the few times I've seen them, even in defeat, and Trent Johnson is a good coach (even though he looks like an ax murderer). But UCLA wins the best league in America outright, and #7, #8, and #24 lost today, as well as Clemson to horrid Georgia Tech. Also, 7'8 Kenny George had 19 and 11 and UNC Asheville will play Winthrop for a Tourney bid Saturday, and USC survived a must win game against Cal in OT at the Galen Center.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 07:12 AM) Call me silly, but when something happens 4 of 6 years, I don't necesarily call that a bold prediction Going from The Cell and the AL Central to the AL West and Anaheim should in theory help him a lot. Ok, his ERA will be 5 or more. Is that better?
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 11:03 PM) Someone compared Carl Landry to a poor man's Charles Barkley, and that's actually a pretty good comparison. I think after Yao went down, they'd struggle, but Dikembe Mutombo has come in, and they haven't missed a beat. Rick Adelman is a damn good coach. Also, I'm getting sick of experts saying only 3 teams can win the East, Boston, Detroit or Cleveland. Orlando has 2-1 records over Boston and Detroit, while Cleveland's struggling to fit all of the new guys in. If Turk and Lewis are knocking down 3 pointers in the playoffs, why can't they win the East? Ehh, the experts are naturally going to ignore you guys because Cleveland and Detroit have been there, and Boston has the big 3. But of course you guys can win, with 3 point shooting and a dominant big, who knows. And I have no idea what I'd want for Tyrus, I have no clue what his value is.
  10. Colorado beats Anaheim 1-0 in regulation. Montreal wins 4-2 at Phoenix. Vancouver up 5-2 in the 3rd vs. Nashville. EDIT: Vancouver wins, 6-2.
  11. It's unfathomable what has happened to the Houston Rockets. About to make it 17 in a row (5 without Yao), as they are up 20 on the Mavericks IN DALLAS in the 4th quarter.
  12. It'll come down to Ohio and Florida, as it seems to always do nowadays.
  13. Bulls beat Cleveland 107-96, go figure. LeBron had 39 points, but was lazy otherwise as his team played horrid defense, and he had only 3 rebounds, 1 dime, and 4 turnovers. Joakim Noah, amazingly, had 13 points and 20 rebounds (10 offensive), and Gordon and Deng had 23 apiece.
  14. Random thought, but Duncan Keith looks EXACTLY Heath Ledger. Well not like Heath Ledger now, but you know what I mean.
  15. Shan Foster reminds me A LOT of Josh Howard. Howard, like Foster, stayed all 4 years and was GREAT as a senior. Both are about 6'7, but were way underrated nationally in college. Howard ended up going on the last pick of the first round and being a steal, and I see a similar fate for Foster, who is projected to go in a similar range to Howard in the draft, and will be a very good NBA player IMO.
  16. Well regardless of how this works out, this season has reminded me how much fun hockey is to watch when your team is actually at least modestly good. I still can't just watch any hockey game like other sports, and I admit I am bandwagon-ee when it comes to how much I follow the Hawks, but man....when they are good and the UC is rocking, it's great to watch.
  17. Best Christmas lights display EVER.
  18. Bertrand with 38 tonight, Sterling wins. NIU recruit Tyler Storm with 34, Geneseo wins. Good times. And Mt. Carmel BLEW OUT De La Salle, what got into the boys from Mt. Carmel?
  19. Question for those smarter than I: Is Crawford a young fill in type at goalie, or is he somebody the Hawks think can eventually be a solid and legit, consistent starter in the NHL?
  20. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 11:43 PM) Look, I don't have Final Four aspirations, but if they make it to the Sweet 16, I'd be satisfied. Elite 8, I'd be thrilled! Well you are right about one thing, Notre Dame has an elite offense in terms of the national picture. McAlarney and Harangody alone can win games against superior teams with their ability to put the ball in the basket, which is a lost art nationally.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 10:00 PM) Stone and I seem to differ in opinion (not that he or anyone else should give a s*** what I think) but his knowledge and insight are second to none. It'll be nice to have an alternative to turn to when I'm forced to mute Hawk. If the TV and radio are in sync properly on directv with Sox games like they are for Hawks games, I won't watch a game all year with the TV volume on. Hawk is intolerable, and with Stoney as an alternative, it's an easy choice.
  22. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 11:19 PM) that trade is pissing me off more and more. Every time I watch Ramirez play I keep think this guy is the real deal, and could be a great surprise at SS. Instead, we have Cabrera who is 33 and going on the downside of his career. I hated the trade at the time, and I hate it even more now. I will make this prediction, and somebody can sig it if they want: Jon Garland's ERA will end up north of 4.50 this year.
  23. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 11:34 PM) Their road losses: Baylor (L by 4) Georgia Tech (L by 1) Marquette (L by 26) Georgetown (L by 19) Connecticut (L by 6) Louisville (L by 5) Only two bad losses of six, and all those teams sans Georgia Tech will probably be in the NCAA. Defensively; in my opinion, as long as you outscore your opponent, who cares? The Louisville game was nowhere near that close, and Georgia Tech is AWFUL. Anyways, tournament games, especially when you get past the first weekend, are won by defense and point guard play, and ND is horrible in regards to the former and mediocre with Tory Jackson in regards to the latter (he's basically a slightly better Chester Frazier).
  24. Obama is going to have huge issues in Pennsylvania. If people thought the demographics were favorable for Clinton in Ohio, they've seen nothing yet. Pennsylvania has an even higher union working/steel mill type demographic (ala it's sister across the state line in Youngstown, Ohio), and an even smaller african american base than Ohio. Obama will certainly do well in Philly and State College, but I can't see him doing much elsewhere or winning that state. He's going to have to do something incredible to even make it closer than Ohio was IMO, 7 weeks doesn't change demographics.
  25. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 11:23 PM) Notre Dame just finished its second straight season of being undefeated at home. No losses at home since the 2005- 2006 season. That includes all the Big East. They are still mediocre on the road and can't play defense.
