Thank God the Bulls are done playing Cleveland (who SUCKS, sorry LeBron). Despite being outscored 30-18 in the 4th as the Bulls often do suck in that period, the losers in red and white won an unfortunate affair 100-95. Every win hurts, and could be the difference between a good player and garbage.

When you consider the players are in their late teens and early twenties, I think it's fair that we rarely hear about the reasons why they are suspended and it's just referred to as "a violation of teams rules". But yeah, if you hear the term "violated team rules", it almost always means: 1. Failed a drug test 2. Failed/failing a class 3. Failed to make it to practice on time (or at all) 4. Got into some trouble at the bar/club Only so much trouble you can get into at college for the most part, since schools are often in smaller to medium sized towns. -
Bush Memo Allowing Torture Surfaces

I'm not sure if this is the smoking gun since it was posted there almost a full day ago and I haven't seen anything on it yet until this thread. Then again, it could be and the news media just hasn't picked up on it yet. Agreed on the war crimes part though since the war itself was started on the basis of lies that could be considered war crimes. -

This is so not shocking that the only reason I'd even consider it news is because it might be proof he did this. If John McCain can get elected to the presidency after what this clown has done to ruin the party (and country) the last 8 years, we might never see another democrat as president. -
Last year a game against Tampa Bay I was going to was called off due to rain about an hour and a half before gametime. It stopped raining by scheduled game time and didn't rain again that day (you could even see the sunset). Game was rescheduled for a Monday afternoon in late August/early September and I couldn't go because of school and couldn't get tickets for a different game. What a brutal screw job by the Sox that was.

Oh come on balta, that video is clearly fake. You should know better than that.

I think K/BB is far more important than K's alone. However, in general, just give me a pitcher that throws ground balls since you can't ground one over the fence, and ground balls can get you out of jams via the double play. The best kind of pitcher is a guy that can whiff people and get ground balls though, which is why I'd love to see Felix Hernandez stay healthy eventually.

I have no problem with Roy rooting for Kansas. I don't even have a problem with him being there in a Kansas shirt. The problem is the combination of the two. I'm not sure if it's fair to put it that way since circumstances worked out the way they did, but I just don't like a person in the crowd rooting for a team that kicked the ass of the team he coached only 2 nights earlier. That just sits the wrong way with me, regardless of Roy's past. -

Not sure I post around here enough to piss anybody off, but I have read and agreed to the terms of this thread. -
That's part of it, but the other part is that although he's healthy now, Joe is still going to turn 30 in three weeks and has a history of back problems, and thus I think his defensive skills are going to start to wane in due time. Whenever his defense falls to even an average level, he becomes a below value player because he just doesn't hit at an acceptable level for a 3B unless he's fielding great.

The Fields Era ~ Developing a young talent
whitesoxfan101 replied to Texsox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) While putting the ball in play may lead to good things, most of the time and out is an out. Certainly you need to look at why he is striking out, poor pitch selection, getting fooled, etc. But I'm more interested in obp and ba. Indeed, and a prime example of that is Crede. He overdoes the making contact with 2 strikes thing and it leads to his legendarily high number of weak pop ups. I'd rather as a whole see Joe swing harder with 2 strikes. He'd strikeout more, but he'd also make more authoritative contact when he did hit the ball. -
My reason for bias against Joe actually isn't Josh Fields as much as it's I don't like having a 3rd basemen with a .306 career on base and .754 career OPS. I know he's clutch and a great fielder, but you have to overcompensate at other positions offensively to make up for a typical Joe Crede season. Then again, maybe we've done that this year when you look at our lineup, assuming Quentin and Swisher play everyday all year.

The Fields Era ~ Developing a young talent
whitesoxfan101 replied to Texsox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's hard to say. He needs the work on fielding ground balls, but the quality of fields in triple a and the major leagues aren't comparable so that's not a great foreshadower for him, although the works helps anywhere. Being in triple a definitely won't help him at the dish though. His biggest weakness is hitting good pitches (especially fastballs) and he won't be seeing many of those anywhere except at the major league level. -
Guess who led baseball in RBI after the first week of the 2006 season. Chris Shelton. That's why you don't overreact to the first week like everybody here is.

The OFFICIAL "I was wrong about Joe Crede" thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to shawnhillegas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He's still a great fielder and a great clutch hitter. Just as he should have been traded at peak value after the 2006 season and just as he's holding up the progress of a future stud in Josh Fields right now. These aren't mutually exclusive things, you can enjoy the good things Joe Crede brings to the team and realize mistakes have been made. -
Between the Illinois recruiting revival and Self's exorcism of the final demon that wasn't on his coaching resume (winning it all), to me the Self/Illinois thing should be dead and buried now for good (although it should have been a while before this). As for the game, yeah it was lost and not won, but a large number of college games (especially ones with great comebacks) are lost more than they are won. That's what happens when 18 to 22 year old kids decide the outcome, and it's in part what makes the college game so great to watch. That shot by Chalmers will still live on forever as one of the greatest in the history of sport though.

Both coaches had a rough night tonight. Memphis blew it open when Kansas decided for some reason to switch to a box and 1 despite the fact they were already playing good defense. Then, Memphis blows a 9 point lead with 2 minutes left somehow and doesn't foul at the end up 3. I give Self credit though, a lot of people thought he was not a good enough coach to ever win it all and that's now proven false. The other thing I'll say is I actually feel bad for the Memphis kids and fans, which tells you just how great a title game I think it was because I never feel that way.

My bracket was so bad that I didn't win anything even though I picked Kansas to win it all, lol. Anyways, what a fantastic game. Congrats to Kansas and even all grudges aside, I kinda feel good for Coach Self. I just can't believe a team with Derrick Rose on it lost a huge game. I picked Kansas in November and before the tournament, but it just still amazes me Rose missed that free throw (although that all was CDR's fault overall that it went to OT). Also, I know Coach Cal said they were trying to, but that was yet another example why you HAVE TO FOUL when your up 3 at the end. It's just a common sense play.

Vazquez (0-1) vs. Blackburn (0-1): HOME OPENER!
whitesoxfan101 replied to TitoMB345's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) Morneau, Mauer and Young arent power hitters? I beg to differ Well obviously they are, but the Twins still have as little power as any team in the AL overall, and do this small ball stuff because their offense isn't very good as a whole and they have to. They win because of their pitching, not because they play grinderball. It's one of my pet peeves with the love Hawk and DJ show them, just say their offense outside of 3 guys sucks, they once in a while manufacture a run, they win because they pitch. -

whitesoxfan101 replied to TitoMB345's topic in 2008 Season in Review
One day Hawk and DJ will realize that there is a reason this "good, fundenmental, Twins style" hasn't won in the playoffs this decade but for one series, and that is that they do it because they have no power hitters. I'll take the 3 run home run thank you. -
Doesn't surprise me at all. I don't think people realize how different doing a game and doing studio work is, but they are just different animals. With the studio work, you have time to be prepared and you know what your going to say and can even read off a prompter often times. With doing the games, you have to be able to improvise and go as it happens and that is a lot more difficult for some people. I don't think Chris is great at the going with the flow yet (he might yet turn out to be though, still a young guy) and if you combine that with being thrown into the fire of working with Ed Farmer as your first gig and he was in a tough spot. I am not surprised to hear he's doing well at ESPN so far and I think he'll only get better with more experience.

Jay Marriotti is probably the worst journalist in America, but he's not dumb. He has clearly sold out whatever writing skill and common sense he has in order to be a pest who gets a lot of attention and a lot of money. So I will say this: If he's a shameless bum who just wants money, Marriotti does exactly what he wants.
