5/12 White Sox (18-18) vs LA Angels (22-17)

QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) 3-4, 2b, homer for Berkman tonight. He has 24 hits in last 9 games. I went to a game in full Sox gear in 2006 in Houston, and he still threw me a ball during BP. I can't speak to the character of a man I haven't met or known personally, but that act says it if any one act can. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ May 12, 2008 -> 11:14 PM) lol. thats funny. I cant wait until Phil Steele's magazine comes out. I have hope that NIU and Illinois will both have decent teams in the same year for only the 2nd time in my life (the first being 2001). Hopefully they don't let me down like the Sox have the last few years now if you count this year as a lost cause already. -

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ May 12, 2008 -> 11:11 PM) Late 2006? You mean the only truly rough time Buerhle probably ever had? Seems like poor judgment on your part to me. Buerhle has been very consistent over the course of his career, and you've had this attitude for this amount of time now over a PART of one year? Wow. Sadly, I watch the games and Buehrle's hot streak last year and Crede's home run binge in 2006 were both mirages. It was obvious at the time, and it's REALLY obvious now. -

It's ok, Crede's error only directly lead to 4 runs. Just as it led to two runs at Toronto in one game, and three in another. Gold glove baby!! -

This feels like a game at Oakland right now. -

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:56 PM) All based on a few bad starts early into the season after he's had a lot of success and has been a consistent pitcher? Seriously, what the hell crawled into your ass? What exactly gave you reason to believe all of this before this season? And that thing about "long past their peak" thing made me chuckle a little bit. Huh? I've been saying that stuff about Crede and Mark since late in 2006. I might be one day proven wrong, but I doubt it, and it's not a case of something "crawling up my ass" when I've been saying it for a while now. -

I can't believe i'm saying this, but get Wassermann's ass back to Charlotte and call up MacDougal already!! -

QUOTE (daa84 @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:53 PM) yeah, frankly i think hamilton is the more likely player to keep this up too Hamilton's past has done significant damage to his body, which is why Cincy wanted to trade him so much. He has hall of fame talent, but will struggle to stay healthy long term (he didn't stay healthy much last year in fact). -

The fact Joe Crede and Mark Buehrle are still on this team proves: 1. The fans can be pretty dumb. 2. Our GM generally is pretty dumb. 3. We like to keep players long past their peak value on the trade market. 4. All of the above. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) Remember when we crushed him in 2005, second game of a doubleheader? Dye hit some bombs off of him, and McCarthy was great. Ahh yes, better days those were. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:48 PM) Gold Glove Crede nears double digits in errors. Speaking of cases where fans got what they asked for ie somebody not traded, and now I say be careful what you ask for. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:48 PM) Volquez wasn't an absolute blue chip talent though...it was quite the risk for Cincy. Volquez has always had a big reputation, but with his advanced age, it's not like he was a Kershaw or Jay Bruce. Volquez I thought would for sure be very good with Cincy, he was just badly mismanaged by the Rangers (big shocker there). -

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:47 PM) And I don't care if Josh breaks Hack Wilson's RBI record this year; you don't trade Volquez, especially when your rotation includes names like Ponson, Padilla, Gabbard, Feldman, etc. You don't trade Volquez period, even if you have 4 other great starters, his stuff is just phenominal. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:45 PM) I guarantee we could have got Hamilton for the Swisher package. Volquez alone is better than what that package is and will be, but bah your probably right it'd have gotten Cincy to pull the trigger. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:35 PM) As Swisher fails to deliver, Josh Hamilton collects his 43rd RBI of the season. We didn't have anything 1/10th as good as Volquez to give up. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:42 PM) Well, that was a horrific at bat. I absolutely despise Orlando Cabrera. What a terrible trade! Those two (if we even get two at this rate) draft picks better be a couple of freaking studs. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:32 PM) Hindsight at its absolute finest Except for the fact that I and a lot of others here (probably the majority in fact) thought it would have been the right move to trade him at the time. It's not hinsight when you said it as it happened.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) lol. Like who? ...And give me one good reason why re-signing Buehrle was a bad idea at the time. He's been losing velocity (of which he never had much) for going on 3 years now (aka since after 2005), and contrary to what KW thinks, this team should have been rebuilding last offseason and last July. So not only was it dumb because we should have been rebuilding, it was dumb because we gave a pitcher obviously in decline after a lot of innings a huge extension.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) For anyone that lives on the west coast and might see the Angels more than I do....have you ever seen a team pitch to Vlad with runners on 2nd and 3rd? It was an awful choice, but Buehrle is just bad. They'd have got him eventually, and you can't assume Hunter does the same thing (grounder to SS) with the bases loaded, 1 out as he did after a 3 run homer to put them up. Ozzie and Mark both deserve the blame. -

QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) Say what you want, and yeah we shoulda been out of the inning long before that, but Mark Buehrle circa 2008 is pretty asstastic. Remember all the fans clamoring and begging us to keep Buehrle last July? The ones who threatened to give up their season tickets if we had traded him? Be careful what you wish for. -
Instead of trading him for prospects that could have helped us, we give Buehrle a huge extension last July. Looks like this will be a move that we will regret for a long time, Buehrle looks washed up.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 11, 2008 -> 09:53 AM) I know, hard to believe, right? These athletes are getting bold and dumb, though. And now they dont care who they trash in their wake. Reggie Bush and OJ Mayo are getting paid, why should they care that USC is getting dragged through the mud? Indeed, and when you consider how many guys are only staying one year and how desperate schools are getting to get them, schools getting caught doing this will become more and more common in college basketball in my opinion. -
Javy deserved the win tonight. For the games this year we didn't do s*** for him when he pitched great, he deserved a win on a night where he didn't throw his best game. Anderson just loves hitting in Seattle, great job bullpen, and Q is a stud of course. I don't believe in kicking a man when he's down, I instead believe in robbing him, beating his ass, and throwing him in an alley. In other words, let's sweep these chumps tomorrow. EDIT: Uribe walked twice tonight? Has hell frozen over?
