To be fair, Semrau and Carlwell are both coming off life threatening injuries that took away the vast majority of their offseason, and Jordan is a walk on. But even once McCamey takes his spot in the starting lineup, a bench of Meacham, Cole, Tisdale, Brock, and TBD based on matchups isn't a bad thing. It's a shame Mike Davis didn't redshirt though, we'll regret it ala Shaun Pruitt and Warren Carter in a few years IMO. -
John McDonough in as Blackhawks President

This is a great move twofold, first it's obviously a GREAT get for the Hawks, and second it gets one of the few people who "get it" out of the Cubs organization. Rocky Wirtz continues to impress and excite me for the future of hockey in our beloved city. Also, this is a sign IMO that Jim Hendry will be gone soon from the Cubs, and that's a shame. -
Remember all those people that made fun of the Rashard Lewis signing by Orlando? Yeah, good call guys, he's only the best offseason acquistion this side of Kevin Garnett.

Reda was better than both of them, but Illinois cleaned up in the awards so I can't complain. And would somebody like to explain to me why MIKE HART (consensus Big 10 2nd team) is a Doak Walker award finalist over consensus Big 10 offensive player of the year Rashard Mendenhall, who unlike Hart stayed healthy for his team all season and generally had a better season? Talk about pathetic. -

Impressive performance by the Illini, although when you consider it was Arizona State's maiden voyage this year and they start 3 freshman, you SHOULD do that. I think ASU has a lot of talent though, that is a win that could look better and better as the season goes on. It was nice to get a win that easily too, ease the minutes burden on the players and help avoid fatigue (hopefully) with 3 games in 3 days. I think this team could be the best one yet defensively for Illinois under Bruce when you consider the depth and athletic ability, and in fact I think this team could prove me wrong and go back to the NCAA Tourney IF Brian Randle stays healthy, especially when you consider how down the Big 10 is this year. -
OF COURSE we are a mess, we're the AL San Francisco Giants. The sooner people realize 2005 was an anomoly and our GM is terrible at his job, the better, especially when it comes to the owner. Me (along with many others) said the dark ages are nigh last season, and it continues to look that way. We are old, in a b**** of a division, and have no farm system while having a huge payroll full of overpaid 30 somethings. I guess that's reason for optimism. Come October of 2008, it will be 8 years of KW with 7 Octobers at home, and a system that is a mess. Great.

McCamey is going to be a good one, I wish Illinois would do what I suggested in June and start Frazier and McCamey at the guard spots. Yes neither is a true 2, but the motion offense looks much more fluid with 2 creators on the floor like that. It was nice to see them get a comeback win on the road though, and people have had trouble at Hawaii in the past. Defense has to be way better if Illinois wants to beat Arizona State tonight though. Also, Brock looks like a nice bench option, I think Alexander will be fine as the starting 3, Davis and Tisdale should have redshirted, and Randle HAS to stay out of foul trouble, but I see no reason to believe he's capable of doing that. -
That Bulls game was PATHETIC last night. The Lakers appeared to give full effort for about a total of 12 minutes out of 48, Kobe didn't do much, and the Lakers STILL won by 28. Not much else to say except blow the thing up, what a joke.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) Tennessee-Martin junior guard Lester Hudson recorded what is believed to be the first quadruple-double in Division I men's basketball history on Tuesday night. The 6-foot-3 Hudson scored 25 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, had 10 assists and 10 steals in 31 minutes in a 116-74 victory over Central Baptist College. What if he had also had 10 blocks in that game, what would you call it then? Just a "five-double"? lol. -

Who the hell are the idiots agreeing to games like these: North Carolina vs. Davidson in Charlotte Iowa State at Bradley DePaul at Creighton Texas Tech at Sam Houston State I know UNC, unlike the other 3, was lucky to escape and live to tell their tale, but don't schedule games like that, ESPECIALLY in November!! Oh, and I can't top a quadruple double, but Justin Jonus of Troy scored 44 points in a 133-131 OT win. More impressive though is David Holston of Chicago State. The 5'8 guard scored 39 points on a mind boggling 11 of 13 from 3 point range and even had 7 dimes and 3 steals. Oh, and Raymar Morgan is a beast, another double double tonight with 13 points and 14 rebounds for Michigan State. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) I think this is the first time Wisconsin has ever had any real national recognition for recruiting. Going to be nice to see Bo Ryan with higher level talent. The 2003 class had Brian Butch, a consensus top 10 5 star recruit nationally and Mcd's All-America, as well as Kammron Taylor, who was a Rivals 150 and turned out pretty well (plus Morley was a decent JUCO) and the 2005 class had Krabbenhoft, who was a 5 star recruit as well as Landry, who was highly regarded. Then you get to 2006, which had three Rivals 150 players and was ranked #25 in the nation by rivals with Bohanon, Gavinski, and Hughes. Last years class had a pair of top 100 4 star recruits as well as 2 solid guys in Perry and Jarmusz, and now this year. Ryan recruits WAY better than people realize, he is a great coach but he gets his talent too. -

Anybody who has watched Zook coached teams at both Florida and Illinois know that things have worked out very well for him. He's a much different (better) coach now than he was at Florida, and still can recruit like hell. Florida also got a national championship out of a group with a lot of his recruits, and has a great coach who can recruit himself in Meyer. Both sides have ended up VERY happy in this situation and in good shape with their programs, and I don't get why people like to harp negatively on it and say people got screwed. Nobody got screwed here, and both parties are better off with the way it worked out. -

Watching Gordon a few times now between the exhibitions and tonight, he's a very unique player. I can't really think of anybody that he reminds me of actually, the closest thing I can come up with is he's kind of like a cross between Dwyane Wade and Mitch Richmond with his athletic ability (Wade), 3 point shooting (Richmond), and ability to slash to the basket despite being a bit undersized for a 2 guard (both). On another note, when people look back at the 2007-2007 all NCAA freshman team, they'll just be amazed at the 1 and done talent this year: G: Derrick Rose G: Eric Gordon G: O.J. Mayo F: Michael Beasley C: Kevin Love And hell, that doesn't even include guys like Jonny Flynn, who broke Carmelo's record for points in a Syracuse debut tonight, and Kousta Koufos, and Jerryd Bayless, etc etc. As for Ohio State, they seem to have a starting 5 that can really play, but they need to figure out who will make up/be good enough to be in the rotation and make up the bench. Jamar Butler losing weight and moving back to point is going to lead to a big year for him IMO, Lighty will get his chance to show why he was a 5 star recruit, and Koufos and Hunter inside is really solid, plus I like Diebler's ability to shoot (even though he was awful tonight). We will see beyond the starters, but I'm sure Thad will find a few guys that can contribute bench minutes with all the talent he has (Lauderdale, Terwillger, Turner, Hill). -

Having been to games at both stadiums, I'll never understand how anybody ever wins at LSU or Ohio State, and when you consider Zook has won at both stadiums against #1 teams (at eventual co-champ LSU in 2003 with Florida and yesterday of course), I give him a ton of credit. Illinois is going to be a problem for a while in the Big 10 though, Zook is building a team of all speed in a league that doesn't have teams with the personnel to handle it. Even Ohio State, at home, had problems with a Illinois roster that is still not nearly a finished product talentwise. -
I'm glad this solid core is being kept together, who needs Kobe.

Well, everyone was right. Illinois was the best team tOSU had played all year, tOSU was a fraud all along, and the Big 10 sucks. But damnit I don't care, Illinois won at #1 and they did it by shoving the ball down their f***ing throat in the 4th quarter. They played an almost perfect game, they overcame injuries, it was amazing. And that postgame interview with Zook is all you need to see to know why he recruits so well. Some general thoughts: -Outside of Leman, the defensive MVP was Marcus Thomas. The mighty mite true freshman played at the level of Vontae Davis, and perhaps exceeded it. His play was amazing. -The Iowa game taught Mike Locksley a lesson, and I'm glad he learned it. Against Iowa, Illinois lost due to sticking with the option all game, and Iowa's speed killed them. Today, it was inside running all game to neutralize the Ohio State speed and take advantage of Illinois' amazing O-line. Well done. -If Juice Williams can be accurate on the downfield pass like he was today, and on play action at the goal line, the Illinois offense is unstoppable. That's right, unstoppable. I don't know how any team in the country can stop the Illinois offense if Juice hits the big plays like he did today. -Ron Zook outcoached Jim Tressel, Illinois had the ball 13:45 of 15:00 in the 4th quarter, and Illinois outplayed and beat #1 on the road. Never thought I'd see any of those things, let alone all of them in one game. -Ohio State's wide receivers SUCK. Boeckman wasn't very good today, but he had NOWHERE to throw the ball, and outside of a blown coverage on the first play, the passing game of Ohio State was a laughable joke. It's hard to run on Illinois', but Tressel didn't try to do it enough, and a lot of the rushing yards were on Boeckman scrambles when the pass wasn't there. -It was nice that Ohio State came out for a fight after the game. I guess getting their ass kicked once all day by turnovers and the Illinois offense wasn't enough, they wanted to do it again after the game. Real classy guys, and don't give me the "block O" bull s***. Illinois just beat #1 on the road, they can celebrate, and if you don't like it, quit worrying about the Michigan game. -Ron Zook for Pope. Oh, and Charlie Weis is a fine coach. Does he still think his team has a "distinct tactical edge going into every game"?? At least he was able to win with Tyrone's bad recruits. -
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 05:14 PM) I havent been able to find anything that has come from the Bulls brass indicating that Tyrus Thomas has a poor work ethic(and you know Skiles would rip him up), the only place I have heard it is through the media, and that is only because he didnt come to Chicago for his offseason workouts. This doesnt mean he has a poor work ethic, for all we know he was in the gym for 12 hours a day and going over tape for the rest of the day, we just dont know. To assume he has a poor work ethic is wrong if you ask me. He is still young and raw, and he is still learning. There is plenty of gaps in his learning curve right now, but he still has a world of talent to make up for those gaps. The kid went from a street baller 4 years ago, to a starter on his high school basketball team, to a starter on his college basketball team which was the runner-up to the national champs( he was a huge reason for that), to a top 5 draft pick, and now he is a starter his second year into the league. If his work ethic was really that bad, I think his career path would look a little different right now. If you haven't heard about Tyrus' work ethic, your not listening. Even Skiles has said more than a few things about it, most noteably saying "I haven't seen him in the gym at all" at the beginning of camp. It's also known he's always the first player to leave practice.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 01:54 AM) Absolutely horrible news for Saluki fans. Josh Bone has seperated his shoulder and no one is really sure how long he is out for. He is our most talented guard and I've said before that I thought he'd be our leading scorer this year. This is bad, bad news for SIU fans. OUCH that hurts, Bone was going to be your 6th man/instant offense player wasn't he? He's certainly the best shooter you guys have either way. Will you move Carlton Fay into the starting lineup and go away from the 3 guard lineup now, because other than Clemmons, Mullins, and Green, you have very little at guard if Bone is not available. -

Now I know it was against Sacramento State, but this might be the best college debut I have ever seen in terms of numbers. Michael Beasley had 32 points on 12-20 shooting (7-11 at the line, 1-2 on 3's) and 24 rebounds (12 offensive), with 4 assists, 8 turnovers, 2 steals, 4 blocks, and 3 fouls in 32 minutes. Wow. Other more than noteable debuts for freshman: DeJuan Blair (Pitt): 20 points, 14 rebounds, 4 steals Kevin Love (UCLA): 22 points, 13 rebounds James Anderson (Oklahoma State): 29 points, 5 dimes, 4 rebounds, 3 steals Also, among non freshman, Richard Hendrix had 22 points and 23 rebounds for Alabama, and Junior Hairston had 26 points and 21 rebounds for Drexel. It was awesome box score night or something I think. Oh, and N.C. Greensboro won 83-74 at Georgia Tech thanks a to domiant 2nd half and Belmont won 86-75 at Cincinnati. Go figure. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) collectively they have plenty of talent without having a true go-to guy. And in all reality, they most likely wont win an NBA title. But they most definatley have the chance to make it to the finals. Last season if they get by Detroit, they go to the finals. Collectively they play defense as good if not better than most of the teams in the East. With Deng's development, Tyrus's apparent skill set evolving, and maybe another piece here or there, they could very well make a deep run into the playoffs. I understand that its easy to be extremely critical right now as they are starting out slow, but this team hasnt nearly lived up to the potential yet. Tyrus and Deng are the only 2 players that could be really good on this team. If you can keep those 2 and acquire a big time player somehow, then your getting somewhere. But it's even iffy on Tyrus and Deng, but at least they COULD get championship good I suppose. It's just relying on a guy with a poor work ethic and another who's a poor athlete makes me nervous.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) So tell how us you really feel. Look, I make a lot of dumb arguments, I'm wrong a lot, and quite frankly I'm often an idiot. But the people who can possibly see this group of players winning a title, I honesty have no idea what games they watch. The fact this team is as good as they are every year is a testament to Skiles coaching skill over an 82 game season and the character of the players, but talent wins championships and the Bulls are nowhere near having enough of it.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 03:08 PM) And you base this on what? They gave detroit a good run last year, and should again be in the mix this year. In the playoffs all it takes it a streaky team, otherwise Cle wouldnt have nearly gone as far as they did. They shouldnt have even been close to the championship. The Bulls don't have a single go to guy, player who can create his own shot, or top 25 NBA player on their roster. They don't get to the free throw line enough, have small guards, have bigs who are either too short (Wallace), old (Wallace again, Smith), or skinny (Tyrus, Noah). They also have only one true point guard and lockdown defender, and he's always in foul trouble, are too small as a team to guard Boston or Detroit, have nobody you have to double team, let opponents get to the free throw line too much, and always have at least one guy on the floor you don't have to guard unless Joe Smith and Tyrus are in at the same time. Other than that though, I could see this team winning a championship. After all, Ben Gordon could get taller, Hinrich could learn how to not foul, Luol could get more athletic, Ben Wallace might get younger, Tyrus might gain a work ethic, and Joakim Noah might stop shooting the ball sideways.

Not sure who is comparing Tucker to Wade. Tucker is a fine talent, but his game isn't like Wade's right now. DePaul has a couple awesome freshman though in Tucker and Koshwal, and when you combine that with Curry and a solid senior class, DePaul could have a real nice year, despite what the prognosticators say. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) The lost to the Pistons who have one of the best start 5's in basketball. And they'll lose again to Detroit or Boston in the semis this spring. People in Chicago accept the fact the Bulls are going to lose in the east semis every year though because they are high character and their GM hit a big shot in 1993 though, and that's sad. I wish Skiles had more talent to work with.
