I know one was off the wall, but let me say this: If there were 2 hops as AWFUL as the Reyes "double" and the Ichiro inside the park HR on a Roger Bossard field AT ALL, let alone in a showcase like the ASG, you would find Bossard hanging somewhere under the stands after the game. That was ATROCIOUS and had a huge impact on the game.

Well, with all due respect to the pope, he can go screw himself. We should do our best to be tolerant and respectful of all religions (outside of the violent extremists of course), and to not only say screw that but ALSO be arrogant enough to say your church is the only true church is asinine. How about you actually show some effort to get the child molestors away and clean your* own closet before you go and try and clean others, asshole? Somewhere up there, Jesus is looking down and shaking his head at this guy.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 11:23 AM) He's quite possibly the least knowledgeable radio personality I have ever heard. He's also a complete asshole who should have been fired long ago. I don't know how anyone who knows anything about any sport could stand that guy. He's completely clueless. Yeah, people like Colin Cowherd are strong influences as to why there are people out there that want to blow everything in this country up they can find. He's not only a moron beyond belief, but a miserable prick of a human being. -
Offensively, Collaro reminds me a lot of Pedro Feliz, and taking a quick glance at Feliz's minor league numbers I am starting to think maybe that comparison holds some water. I wouldn't mind that, Feliz is nothing special but a guy like that can be a dangerous power bat off the bench as a spot player.

I will say Prince wins, but I am rooting for Alex Rios as I have been telling everybody he'd be an all star player since the day the Blue Jays drated him and my baseball fan friends are nice enough to always give me props for that. Also, Ryan Howard is going to hit the longest home run tonight, probably to an area Bonds has never even visited in that park.

He was giving Javy the inside strike, which was VERY important to how he pitched well. When Javy throws the fastball inside and keeps his release point flat and over the top on the breaking stuff to allow natural movement, he's almost impossible to hit. His problems are almost always caused when he becomes afraid to keep the hitters honest with inside fastballs and hitters dive over the plate and go the other way with the heaters and ESPECIALLY when he has more of a sideward angle on the release of his breaking stuff, which tips off the hitters AND leads to more flat hangers that end up turning into a lot of pull home runs.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 09:31 AM) Glenn Foster commits to the Illini--yet another outstanding athlete at a defensive position...whom also happens to be teammates with Mr. Filer. Well done, Zooker. Foster is a good get, but Filer is down to tOSU and ND so this has no relevance in that regard.

I know he's working on some pitches and such, but Broadway HAS to stop walking people, or he's going to get killed. He doesn't strike out nearly enough people to get away with that.

Mark Buehrle Agrees to 4-yr, 56 mil with escalator clause
whitesoxfan101 replied to Brian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think most around here agreed that the Sox were in a unique position for a while now in that they were both close to trading AND re-signing Buehrle at the same time, which is very rare. As for those 3 teams: 1. Dodgers 2. Red Sox 3. Mystery Team/Made Up Team (Mets? Padres?) Just my $0.02 -
QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 09:23 PM) and sliding across the tarp. That's a great point, maybe he had it put into the deal that he can slide on the tarp again during rain delays. Perhaps that was what REALLY was holding this deal up.

Javy Vazquez.....now what do we do??
whitesoxfan101 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 08:47 PM) If the Sox can find a way to ink Garland to an extension then I'd have no problem with Vazquez being dealt but if Garland is going to be traded sometime soon or walks after '08 I think Vazquez needs to stick around as the #2 starter. So I guess this is pretty simple from my standpoint. Garland Extended = Trade Vazquez (if there's a GREAT offer out there) Garland Traded = Vazquez Stays Those are my thoughts. My thoughts also are that I think Jon is going to be looking for a HUGE payday and won't sign an extension. Plus, we have a lot of money invested in Mark and Javy, and Danks youth in the rotation (with Boras as an agent), Gio on the farm, and they still like Masset (no idea why) and Floyd. And then of course there are wild cards like Derek Rodriguez, DLS, Broadway, and Russell/Egbert. My guess is Javy will stay, and Garland and Jose will be traded. -
Hunter Ponders Future With Sox
whitesoxfan101 replied to Chisox_fan's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Call me back on August 1st and I'll tell you my thoughts on Ichiro and Hunter. The one thing to keep in mind though is his inflated offensive numbers the last 2 years would get a padded landing in the "regression to the means" department if he plays 81 games at The Cell. Plus, our CF and gaps are as small as any in the game, so not as much ground to cover. -
Well I think most would agree that had the Buehrle stuff fallen through and he were traded, you for sure keep Javy. Thing is, they didn't and Mark isn't going anywhere. Vazquez is having a pretty damn good year at 6-5 with a 3.63 ERA, he's thrown 17 starts and 116 innings at the AS break, and has a WHIP below 1.10, batting average against under .230, and 108 k's to only 26 walks. He's also only 30 years old, throws 200 innings a year, and is signed through 2010 at a very fair for this market 11.5 million a year. Thing is, a guy signed for that long at that price, with Javy's credentials and stuff, fair age, and having a run like this as we near July 31st could bring A TON to a team that needs A TON like us, more than even Jon Garland. And although W/L for a starting pitcher is overrated, he still is 106-110 in his career for a reason and has almost 2,000 innings of MLB wear and tear on his arm. This kind of stuff is why I'm not a GM though, what would you do?
-
For him to take that contract in this day in age proves that he's a VERY rare case in sports: a guy who thinks it's not all about the money and is willing to do whatever it takes to be loyal to his organization and fans and stay with them. He's showing his worth in a contract year (5th in the AL with an ERA around 3 even at the All Star Break), was treated pretty rough by our FO during negotiations, and still signed. Other than Frank and Konerko, I think he might now be my fav White Sox of all time.

The bullpen is a bit of a crapshoot, but we have to at least have 3 arms down there that can be good on a consistent basis, which is something that certainly can be accomplished this offseason. We also will have a starting pitching staff good enough to win some ballgames. The key to 2008 is from now until July 31st, we have to make several trades to get rid of older players/payroll and get something back, as well as figure out a way to improve our everyday player talent going into next year. HOPEFULLY Fields has a really good 2nd half, we call up Richar and he shows us some things, and Ryan Sweeney keeps getting better. Combine that with a few mid level free agent signees a la Jermaine Dye and A.J. a few years back, and that is how we can be in the race again next year. It's possible, and I hope Kenny proves me wrong and gets the job done.

I gotta admit I feel good for a guy like Fausto Carmona. Went 1-10 with a 5.42 ERA in 2006, was 0 for 3 in saves and blew all 3 of those saves in 6 days, his only win was his very first game in April. But this year, he's rebounded to head into the All Star Break with 10 wins at 10-4 with a 3.85 ERA and one of the best GO/AO's in the league at still only age 23. I know he's on a big rival, but a lot of young players would never be the same after the year Carmona had last year, so to see him rebound and be a guy that looks like he'll win 16 to 18 games is nice.

QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) Your so accountable I admitted I was wrong, do you want me to kiss your old ass too? Quit being a grump and b****ing and be happy something good happened. Nobody is going to give you any credit for your internet brilliance, ask your imaginary friends to do it if that's what you want. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) Ah yes, another vintage Jerry Reinsdorf hardcore negotiation is in the books. To those who said it was too close not to happen, kudos. The team knew they could cave at anytime, and really not give up that much more, and they got away with it as usual. Welcome to being a legend in Chicago Mark Also the line for Kenny Williams apolgies starts here---> : I apologize for calling JR a cheap bastard. KW has a long way to go to get an apology, mainly having an organization that isn't bereft of overall talent. -

QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) Let me say this there is no doubt garland goes now, along with Contraras, I am one that didn't really care if they signed buerhle and still don't but this means others will not get signed and will put a crimp in what we spend in the offseason. The payroll will stay the same as this year so again math needs to be done. Now for those who slammed JR and KW. For all the people swearing on the board and cussing at sox management please put some mustard on those crap sandwiches your about to eat. He gave you teenagers what you wanted, I hope a million dollars a win is good enough, and please try to get to the park more often to spend your macdonalds money OH AND MAKE SURE YOU STRAIGHTEN YOUR NAME TAGS. Please.....get your old ass off the high horse. I will never take back what I said about KW, that doesn't change at all. I give JR credit though. -
