As for McCarthy, he pitched well on his 24th birthday (6 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 2 walks, 3 k's, allowed a solo homer, quality start) but fell to 4-6 as Texas lost 2-0 to Baltimore. Erik Bedard pitched what might be the most dominant non no-hitter/perfect game I've ever seen. He threw the CG SHO, allowing no walks or hit by pitches with no errors behind him. He allowed only 2 hits, and had 15 strikeouts. The only 2 baserunners (the 2 hits, both singles) were eliminated by the next batter having GIDP, so Bedard faced the minimum 27 guys. He threw 110 pitches, 80 for strikes, and all but 4 of his outs were on the ground or a k in his best outing of 2007 after his worst outing of 2007 last start against us. WOW.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 10:01 PM) I wouldn't blame Williams, I am sure Reinsdorf gets the final call. I'd normally agree with this, but they agreed on the years and money. The NTC thing sounds surely like something KW is being insistent on.

They need to rename Dallas "choke city". First the Mavs, now the 15-1 Dallas Desperados lose, at home, in their first playoff game, to the under .500 #6 seed Columbus. Oops.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:51 PM) This is the lowest I've ever thought of the Sox organization. They claim to reward there own but if they were never interested in coming to terms with Mark than why even bother negotiating with him. Why not just tell him he's not in the clubs plans. Doesn't Mark deserve at least that as opposed to him and his life getting completely dicked around for the past two weeks as the Sox put together meaningless negotiations. Sure this deal could turn out fine for the Sox but the way they handled this situation embarrasses me as a fan. This ranks right there with the complete embarrassment that was the White Flag trade (and while that deal worked out talent wise, it is still one of the most embarrassing moments in this teams franchise and to a point baseball history). So Kenny, as one of your biggest supporters I just want to say f*** you for continuing to be classless with the way you handle the organizations own. Please prove me wrong, but I'm sure you won't. And if the org wanted to move Konerko they could and they would get an absolute ransom for him. Overpaid, bad contract...maybe a couple years ago when he's in his last year you could make that case but not right now. That about sums it up.
-
I don't get your point......Konerko had a really good year last year and is now on his way to have a really good year again this year. Buehrle is 28 and has a 3 even ERA at the all star break. Our problem isn't paying really good players a lot, our problem is we have a ton of payroll spent on useless crap. To say Konerko has been a bum this year.....wow. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) Even though I'm mad now, I'll be ok with everything if we get good value in return. So would I, but we won't.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:36 PM) hmmm, i read that like it was supposed to be sarcastic. Maybe i looked at it wrong Well he's refering to a signing where we "bent our rules", Paulie was bad for a while this year, and he keeps saying "sell, sell, sell" so I can't tell. Needs to use some green if he's being sarcastic and it's not obvious.
-
QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:27 PM) In fact I am sure KW and JR are kicking themselves at signing konerko. Right now he is worthless. They won't make that mistake again. LMAO!!! Do you watch our games? Paulie is on fire, now at .263/.360/.495, and his OBP and SLG are both back to his career norms. He's on pace to set a career high for walks and have at 30 plus doubles (maybe set a new career high in that) and still on pace to hit about 30 homers (and climbing by the day). And he has had NO lineup protection behind him all season. Pass the crack over here, please.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) They got my money all day yesterday, and they should be f***ing ashamed of themselves. KW basically lucked into the 2005 offseason.....hell, he traded Carlos Lee for Barbaro. Yep, the 2005 team wasn't lucky but the fact KW built a team that good for 1 year was TOTAL luck. He's proven overall to be a horrid GM.

Former Sox farmhand Aaron Miles had a rough night tonight. 0 for 5 at the plate, but that doesn't even begin to tell the story. Tonight's game in St. Louis was 3-3 entering the 7th against the Giants. The Giants had 2nd and 3rd, 1 out, and this happened: Mark Sweeney reaches on throwing error by Miles, 1 runs scores, another man to 3rd, 1 out. A bunt out to the pitcher, 2nd and 3rd 2 outs. Randy Winn reaches on fielders error by Miles that would have ended inning, 2 runs score. Ray Durham reaches on throwing error by Miles, Winn scores. Bonds pops out to catcher to end inning. The Cardinals scored 3 in the 8th, making the 7-6 loss hurt even more for them.

QUOTE(TheHolyBovine @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) You know what's unfortunate? That we won't become the Marlins. I'm serious. The Marlins have one of the best scouting departments in the game, and even though they're owned by a cheap bastard too, they're occasionally brilliant when that young talent matures. Our problem is that we don't have the balls to be a championship franchise, and we don't have the balls to start over from scratch. What we have is an owner who forces (either explicitly or implicitly) his GM to rely on mediocre veteran talent with the hope that we'll get lucky. Sack up, start paying people, or at least have the balls to rebuild like men. I can't believe I'm saying this, but agreed on all counts.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) ... it would have only worked if it were a perfect game. ... What if somebody stole the World Series trophy, and Mark just happened to rescue it and return it to Mr. Reinsdorf personally. Now we're getting somewhere.....BRAINSTORM!!!
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) I said ... oh about 60 pages ago in this thread, this situation needs to be like the Konerko deal, where Mr. Reinsdorf tells the B-team ( Williams, Hahn, etc), "Thanks guys, but I will take it over from here before you further embarass the organization." If Mark had just given Jerry the ball from the no hitter in front of the parade fans, he'd already have a new deal.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) thats not what you said. you said "Enjoy 2005, it isnt going to happen again until we get a new GM and a new Owner" Knee Jerk Over Reaction Which is where I started teasing you about Chicken little and the sky is falling. I never once said I support this decision, I dont. But I also dont believe that the Sox will all the sudden become the Pittsburgh Pirates after having one bad half of a season and (possibly) trading away Buehrle When did I say we'd become the Pirates? I'm just saying you can't win a World Series by ignoring the biggest agent in baseball and not giving any no trade clauses. That isn't to say we'll suck, but if we go that route we have to win by drafting well and making a lot of good trades, and although we've done part 2 of that under KW, we have not done part 1. Plus, we're in a pretty good division, so I'm not counting on success unless policies change, and that goes for the GM and Owner. Those 2 could win, but policies must change and 2 men that stubborn don't strike me as types that will adjust to a changing market.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:01 PM) You know what this whole situation reminds me of? When Scott Skiles got his extension in 2005. All sides hated each other and then a deal magically appeared when Skiles met with Reinsdorf. Its why I am holding out hope Skiles didn't want a no trade clause.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) Listen man, enough with the jabs. You are a self admitted over-reactionist, dont start slinging crap because I dont agree with you that the world just ended because the Sox are considering, not even concluded with, trading Mark buehrle. we all have to read your stuff every day, but we dont have to agree with it. I have known you on this site for a long time and you should know that I am messing with you, Chicken little. Deal with it or keep yelling the sky is falling, but dont get mad at me because I dont agree Hey if you are going to agree with the organization basically saying they don't want any high draft picks or top free agents ever, that's your problem. But if your going to call me out personally for having the opinion that basically everybody on this board except you and a few other people with a....different perspective have, I'm not just going to ignore it. Call out all the people that agree with me on this too, it's not like I'm being a chicken little to say not signing an elite lefty for below market price is being unreasonable.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) It was a picture of chicken little until a second ago. Woe is me, woe is you, the sky is falling! So you think avoiding baseball's most important agent and not giving your best pitcher a really cheap deal over a NTC that only matters until 2010, and refusing to give any NTC's is a direction toward success? If you do, that's fine and your problem, but don't blame me for having enough of a brain to know what direction we are heading in.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:45 PM) Nice Red X. Do you work for the organization? Your posts are suddenly make me wonder. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:46 PM) Right. New owner. New GM. That all equals a world series /waits for sky to fall some more No it doesn't, but if you refuse to talk to the biggest agent in the game and give no trade clauses, you can't win.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:42 PM) did you break your jaw with that kneejerk, Mariotti? Can you read or see, Hellen Keller? I've admitted I wanted us to trade Mark UNTIL I saw 4/56 and a NTC is all he wanted. To not give somebody that good 4/56 a NTC, AND THEN when he gives in still say no means you don't want him. And we will NEVER win if we refuse to give any players a NTC or talk to Boras clients. It's not that hard to understand.
-
The Sox obviously don't want Mark Buehrle back, AND they won't give NTC's or talk to Boras. Enjoy 2005 everybody, it won't happen again until we have a new GM and Owner.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) Carlos Marmol has been doing his best K-Rod impersonation lately. This Cubs team is pretty damn good right now. IF he has the mental makeup to do it, he's going to be a really good closer. He has 2 unhittable and dominating pitches in his fastball and slider that he can locate. I am not sold on the Cubs overall, but Marmol is no joke.

Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder have both homered again tonight, those 2 are just insane. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) And how many times do people say...don't worry, he'll regain it as the season goes on. I just want to know how you lose 5 to 6 mph in a year and a half? 70 for 78 in saves in his career. I'm sorry he didn't blow it though so you could keep saying he sucks, he only throws 93.

With Mauer on deck? THROW. STRIKES. Wewt, victory. Phew.
-
PHEW he JUST missed that one.
