  1. As long as Hunter doesn't hit a home run, we're fine. But that would not surprise me.
  2. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) Wait, it's only 18 months? Everybody keeps debating it, but Buehrle will have been a White Sox for exactly 10 years in July of 2010, at which point he becomes a 10 and 5. So yes, it's a year and a half IMO. And Jenks, if he holds this, would have his 70th regular season save as a White Sox in 78 chances.
  3. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 05:04 PM) Do you see me disagreeing with that? Buehrle is what Hawk would call a pitcher. He goes out there, attacks hitters, and gets outs. But if you look at pure stuff, Garland has the edge. Currently 1-9 Devil Rays pitcher Edwin Jackson EASILY has better raw stuff than Greg Maddux ever did in his wildest dreams. Stuff isn't everything.
  4. Thome does not hit lefties, but they have the heart of the order up and Thome could easily still make it 5-0. That is beyond inexcuseable to be picked off.
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 05:01 PM) Watching Buehrle tip the cap and hug Ozzie made me very, very sad. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 05:01 PM) All I can say is KW better hope he gets a hell of a package for Buehrle. I said for a while not trading Crede this offseason will turn out to be KW's biggest mistake, and I still believe that, but if he doesn't make a GREAT trade involving MB if we do indeed trade him, that will be the one that costs him his job in due time.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) Are the Dodgers not in the NL West? That's what I am referring to. He'd be great in the NL. Yeah that's a good point, although he hasn't been giving up many homers the last 2 years, so that number won't get too much lower.
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) So now if a GM likes Garland better then Buehrle they are bad ones? I would bet that there are more GM's that like Garland better then Buehrle... call me crazy, but whatever. That would be correct. I'm not sure what possibly tells somebody that Garland is anywhere near better other than Buehrle's off year last year (and Jon had a 6 ERA into June in that same year) as well as the overrated "win" stat.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:54 PM) Keeps the ball down, Dodger Stadium is more of a pitchers park anyway, an ERA under 4 in the AL is a low 3 in the NL. I'd agree if he went to the NL West. That statement is debateable if he went to the NL East though (other than Florida, who'd never pay him anyways). Great job Mark.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) Well, that was the reasoning everyone gave us for why the Rockies got a lot more for Jennings than the Sox did for Garcia. Yeah, and as time has went on we've seen the REAL reason we got what we did for Garcia.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:51 PM) Garland would dominate the NL, and we would get more for him than Buehrle, unless there is a 72 hour re-sign window. Why would Garland dominate the NL? That's a pretty blanket statement to make about a low strikeout guy.
  11. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) Buehrle would be a 3 month rental and said he won't sing with the team he's traded to. Garland would be around for 9 months of baseball and would be able to be signed to an extension with that team. Plus, it wouldn't surprise me if more GM's liked Garland better as a pitcher (aside from yesterday). I'm one of the biggest Garland fans on this board, but the only GM's in baseball that like him better than Buehrle are ones who are soon to be and/or should be unemployed. The fact that Garland is signed through 2008 might get him around equal value on the market as Buehrle, but that's it (and that's even a stretch).
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) Garcia commanded a starting C, a top prospect and a middle prospect. We figured we'd resign him, but if I remember right, he was a FA at the end of the year. I know Buehrle says he won't extend with a team he's traded to, but I'd like a similar package for Mark. It was pretty well known Garcia was going to re-sign with us because of his relationship with Ozzie, and IIRC it was only a week or two after the trade that he signed the extension. That was kind of a unique situation though, as it wasn't a rent a player but it wasn't an immediate extension either.
  13. Punto is making some great picks at 3rd. Of course, it's because he's playing the ball poorly and into some bad hops, but still he's picking it. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) Uhhh helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll yes. Garland is a righty, hasn't had nearly the career that Buehrle has, and he'll get us that much more because he's signed 1 extra year? Umm
  14. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) Only Garland could get us a package like that... Garland has more trade value than MB because he's signed through 2008 instead of 2007? Uhhh hellllllllllllllllllllll no.
  15. What a gem by MB. 7 innings, 5 hits (all singles), with 2 walks, 3 double plays, and a k. He's at 99 pitches with 8-9-1 due up in the 8th and after yesterday, I'd assume he does pitch the 8th, which I agree with for the record.
  16. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:37 PM) I am sure we could get a Kemp and Betemit package out of LA for Buehrle... would any of you guys be opposed to that package? I want Kemp and Billingsley or Broxton. I bet KW does too, and that's why we haven't traded MB yet though.
  17. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) Buehrle's ERA at 3.09 Frank Thomas is a hall of famer, f***tards. He's been a hall of famer for a while now. The numbers he put up in his prime are the best in the history of the game sans Babe Ruth (and yes, I do not count OF #25's chemically enhanced years).
  18. Buehrle is killing me. His trade value is so high (and going higher) that our depleted organization NEEDS to trade him since we need the guys he'd bring back. But he's so likeable and will sign for so cheap if we just give him a little old NTC. I have learned to USUALLY keep my heart out of sports decisions/opinions, but it's not working here. At all.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 11:29 AM) Ruben Mateo, Jason Kendall, Robin Ventura even Mike Mussina. Just to name a few. I forgot the Mussina one, but this one bothered me more than those other ones. With leg/knee injuries (Jermaine Dye in the playoffs for Oakland is another one), they are ugly but not life threatening. At the moment this happened I thought this could do serious and permanent damage to Redmond, so it bothered me more.
  20. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 11:25 AM) I have never heard a duck "snort" before. I have heard them quack, but not snort. There was a lot of quacking going on in that DH. Well the actual saying from Hawk's playing days is "duck s***" but he changed it to snort to make it TV friendly. Although in the last year or so, he's been saying "duck fart" a lot more and seems to have found a happy medium with that.
  21. Buehrle's last start in a White Sox uniform will also be the only game we win in this series. Also, the picks to click today have to be #7 Owens and #27 Fields /meaningless predictions
  22. Outside of the comebacker to the face Bryce Florie took for the Red Sox and the 2 injuries that lefty Saunders suffered for Tampa Bay, that was about the ugliest thing I've ever seen in a baseball game. I'm glad Redmond wasn't seriously hurt, he's lucky that wasn't the case.
  23. QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:57 AM) Damaso Marte: 26.1 IP, 10 BB, 30 K, 1.71 ERA LT To be fair, I can't blame him for getting rid of Marte after the 2005 disaster (for Marte, not the team obviously lol), and Mackowiak has been a decent player for us.
  24. Due to my disguist with the Sox and my interest in International Soccer (I am bored by club/league games, but love to watch International matches), I watched this entire game. To be fair, Adu made an AMAZING play to get past 2 defenders and help set up the game winning goal, but that kid Altidore seems like a great finisher. Adu also had a hat trick when the U.S. blew out Poland like 5 or 6-1 (and Poland also beat Brazil and qualifed for the final 16). The U.S. was supposedly in the tougest group by far, so for them to win the group is pretty cool to see, hopefully they go far in the knockout rounds. Obviously not everybody has all their best players in this, but I'd assume it's a good sign for our soccer that we're doing well in this tournament since it's all kids playing basically. Also, that goalie for the U.S. is really good, he was a big reason why they tied South Korea and played an awesome game against Brazil last night.
