QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 06:37 PM) Contrary to popular belief, 10 and 5 rights DO kick in the middle of the season and Buehrle will become eligible for those 10 and 5 rights at some point during the 2010 season. Correct, the 2011 stuff makes no sense at all. He came up in July of 2000 and hasn't been to the DL or AAA since, so July of 2010 is when 10/5 kicks in. Duh.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 07:19 PM) umm very few people have even brought up the thought of trading Jenks and those that have were quickly verbally abused for such a though, so what exactly is this thread trying to prove? Read the boards, a ton of people want to trade him, and it completely bewilders me. And as much as I love Bobby, he's not bringing 3 quality prospects back. No way.
-
I know this will get me jumped on, since I'm weird for not seeing 94 on the JUGS gun and panicking when Jenks is in this year. But the numbers do not lie: 2007: 22 for 24 in saves (all star) 2006: 41 for 45 in saves (all star) 2005: 6 for 8 in saves 2005 postseason: 4 for 5 in saves For those of you not gifted in mathematics, he's 69 for 77 in saves, or 89.6 (rounded to 90) percent in regular season saves, plus he went 4 for 5 in the 2005 postseason and closed out the ALDS and World Series, as a rookie, on the road (plus he of course closed out the division clinching win, on the road, as a rookie). He's also 26 years old and averages about 10 strikeouts per 9 innings and less than a hit per inning for his career. Now say what you will about how much Bobby is used, his velocity, how closers are a dime a dozen, whatever....but to just trade that now and trust you can find somebody else who will match those numbers in one of the most important roles in the game of baseball is asking for trouble IMO.

Congrats.

Doesn't it figure? We've probably lost a division title or maybe even 2 since 2001 because of not being able to beat KC and TB, particularly on the road, and this year we go 6-1 on a week of road games against them. The recipe was pretty simple in that our offense was just plain bad, instead of epically bad like it usually is, outside of Danks first start, our starting pitcher went at least 7 innings in every win so we avoided the pen quite a bit, and when we did use the pen, they were ok. Of note: Ryan Bukvich in his first 2 outings gave up 3 earned runs and 5 hits in 1 inning. In his 8.2 innings since, he's only allowed 2 earned runs on 6 hits, and Thornton threw 4.2 scoreless on the trip. Also, Boone Logan and Bobby Jenks are good. Paul Konerko walked only 60 times in 152 games last year. Through exactly half as many games (76) this year, he's already just over 2/3 of the way to last years total with 41 walks. That's what happens when you don't have lineup protection, and just imagine how many walks he'd have if Paulie had hit at all before Memorial Day. Jim Thome hit .233 in both May and June, but his OBP took a staggering dive from .425 in May to .337 in June. He's hurt, he can't hit nearly as well as normal, and other teams figured that out and started to pitch to him more in June. Is a DL trip necessary? For all the love Buehrle is getting here for his bounceback year, Jon Garland is actually slightly better in ERA (3.15 to 3.33), has a similar record at 6-5 to Mark's 5-4, and similar WHIP at 1.16 to Mark's 1.10. And unlike Mark, Jon is coming off an 18 win season. One day he'll get the credit he deserves among Sox fans.

Another Paxson "treadmill" season ahead

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Maybe I read a different article, but where did it say the Bulls were standing pat? It's not a secret there isn't a lot of cap space, but it also isn't a secret Pax knows the teams needs, and has said he will address them this off-season. Well I'm not saying they are standing pat, but among that list of mid level exception potential big men are a bunch of veterans who can't shoot at all. This team needs somebody that can play up front and actually make a shot. Everything else doens't matter until they have that. -

The Bulls don't have anybody that plays the 4 or 5 that I don't think I could beat in a game of horse (Nocioni is a 3) and they are standing pat? Yikes. -
People, we have a bad GM and this is another example of it. The 2005 season was not a fluke, but the fact our GM built such a good team that year considering the type of job he usually does WAS a fluke. Sad.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 06:10 PM) It's always Germany Or Florida.... I have a really good friend who was born in Germany but now lives in Florida. That should explain a lot about me.... -
You pick option C and draft Francisco Cordero, J.J. Putz, and Kevin Gregg before the season in all 4 of your yahoo leagues like I did .

The Cubs deal with the devil appears to have run out today, and there is no Big Z to save them and win the series tomorrow. Oops.

Official Love for the Milwaukee Brewers Thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to Greg The Bull Luzinski's topic in The Diamond Club
The Cub luck clock ran out last night, we are seeing today the true colors of both squads. Tomorrow will be another exposition of Jason Marquis. I hope the baby bears enjoy the century celebration next season. -
I still think it is probably best for us to trade him in the long run, but to have it be this public and then negotiations break down over this is awful. And it sure as heck looks like they wanted to sign him just so they could end up trading him, which is even worse.

Charlotte is at Pawtucket at 5:05. The rehabbing and pitching very well Jon Lester goes for the Saux, and TBD for the Knights. And for those of you who thought the same thing I did when they saw that, no Gavin's rotation spot doesn't come up until tomorrow when he'd be on regular 4 day rest. Heath is supposed to go today, and he was actually very good his last start, so hmmm..... Birmingham is at Montgomery at 7:05. GREAT pitching matchup as Jack Egbert (7-6, 3.00) takes on Chris Mason (10-3, 2.59). Winston-Salem hosts Kinston at 6. W-S are the bastards that don't tell you on their site who is pitching, but Omogrosso made his first start on the 25th and they have had a game everyday since so I'd assume he will be taking the bump. Kanny hosts Greensboro at 6:05. Matt Long pitches for the good guys against Cristhian Martinez. Great Falls hosts Billings at 8. Anthony Carter pitches for the Sox against Joshua Ravin Bristol plays at Kingsport at 6. The starters are TBD on both sides, as last nights game between the 2 teams was suspended due to rain in the bottom of the 2nd. So both sides will finish that game at 6 and then play a 7 inning game immediately after that.

Rotator Cuff tendinitis? Yikes, they better be real careful with that or surgery may end up being needed.

QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) You may already know this or may have implied this with your post, but to clarify: A 10/5 guy can be traded, he just has to give his permission. It does happen. It is not a guy who's been in the system for 10 years, but 10 active years on a major league 25 man roster with the last 5 being with one team. It includes DL stints by the way, not that DL has been an issue for Buehrle. Again, you may have implied this by your post, just wanted to clarify. Yeah I knew that, but probably should have been more clear. All NTC's just mean you can reject trades, they don't mean you can't be traded at all.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) Why? Bruce had an in home visit with Julian that didn't go very well. Fathom would be able to tell you about that better than I would....but yeah.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/06/30/...fourth-of-july/ He'll be there after all. Good!! He finally has a challege, should be fun.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) Why the face? You can't trade 10/5 guys, so by your logic if we have a veteran that's been here for 5 years or a guy that's been in our system for 10 years, we can't ever keep them because hey, we can't trade them!!
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) So, in effect, Mark would have to give the Sox his permission to be traded throughout the duration of his contract. Again, I can see why KW and JR would have a problem with that. You can never re-sign a guy with or near 10/5 then ever. Sounds logical to me.
-
So in other words, Buehrle's camp is telling the Sox he wants the extra year and half of NTC rights as they gave Garland and Contreras the one year (and after 2 and a half of it for Mark he'd be 10/5), and in return he'll sign for just the 4 years and just the 56 million. That seems MORE than fair to me towards the Sox.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) I can't blame Kenny and JR for having a problem with that. Two or even three years of a NTC is reasonable, but the ENTIRE duration of the contract is not. As of July 2010 he'd have a NTC anyways by Union rules, so realistically he wants 2 and a half years of NTC (2008, 2009, and about half of 2010 until he becomes a 10 and 5) and then the rules say he has it anyways. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 01:07 PM) Buehrle will reach 7 years of service time just after the All-Star break. He came up July 17th (i believe) of 2000, and has been here ever since. The 10/5 rights would kick in on July 17th (i think) of 2010, the third year of the contract. Yeah my brain is not working properly today, his debut was July 2000 and he never left so July of 2010 is when 10/5 would kick in obviously.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) Eh, I think you're right about that. Yeah now that I think about it his 10 and 5 would kick in something in July of 2010, since he debut was July of 2000 and he's been here ever since.
-
That is really indefensible. If Buehrle pitches like we think he should, you'd never trade a lefty in his prime signed that cheap anyways and if he pitched bad enough that we'd want to trade him, it's not like we'd get anything in return (and that's unlikely anyways). Just pathetic, I mean I wanted us to trade Buehrle and now i'm mad at the organization. Only the Sox could f*** this up.
