I'm convinced the only reason we didn't trade him is he's going to re-sign, because if we kept him AND we lose him this offseason, then Kenny is even dumber than anybody here could ever imagine.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 11:42 PM) I'd love to see Erstad released and Jason Bourgeois recalled from Charlotte. As a matter of fact outside of KW/Ozzie's love for Erstad I have no idea why this move has yet to be made. He brings nothing to the team, at least with Bourgeois we'd get a glimpse of a possible Cintron replacement. Agreed times infinity. If Fields plays everyday next year and stay healthy, lock him in for 30 to 35 home runs. Paulie said last night that Fields has more power than he or Dye do (he said the only guy with more power on the team is Thome), and in our ballpark, psh. The scary part of it is the only home run I've seen Josh hit where I thought he got all of it was the one into the UD at Pittsburgh, he hasn't even scratched the surface yet.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 11:28 PM) I''ll only say this once....Paul Konerko gets full days off, he wasn't going to pinch hit (ozzie wanted to give him a rest and a full rest in baseball means you don't play at all in the game...even a pinch hit appearance). For guys that sit more often he's happy to pinch hit, but in Paulie's case you will rarely if ever see it because he takes a day off so rarely. Hell I'm surprised Ozzie's even managing at this point, if I were running the team the only thing I'd be managing is the development of the team and whatever served me best for 2008 (and I actually think Ozzie has done a good job with that). Fair enough, it was moreso me wanting to not see Erstad hit to be honest, hell I'd have rather seen A.J. hit for Erstad and leave Cintron on deck. I'm sure Andy can play 1st, he's done everything else. Even Uribe is a threat lately to hit the ball long. It was just a spot where with 2 outs, odds are VERY low you string together hits against somebody as good as Putz, so you want a HR threat up, that's all.

I really hope we let Gavin pitch enough the rest of the year to decide yes or no on him, because if he's as bad as he's looked in most of his time on the mound so far, I don't want to waste the time next season. Fields is the man, Count looking great out of the pen again is a REALLY good sign. Also, Richar had some GREAT at bats, and seperately here, when you consider the fact that we needed a solo HR (or at the least, a man on base) and Erstad entered the at bat 4 for his last 25 including leaving them loaded earlier tonight, I am confused why we didn't pinch hit Paulie for him with 2 outs in the 9th. We got what we deserved tonight though, here's to a series win against the punching bag Jeff Weaver.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 10:03 AM) scott suggs may announce monday not a lot of encouraging smoke around this one for illinois fans. big surprise. That would be an impressive failure, even for Bruce, to lose Suggs. He was all but a lock for several months. What a disaster this class is turning out to be, Bruce is going to end up begging people to back out of their verbals to D2 schools to come to Illinois. -

QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) Illini.Juice.Bowl. That is all. Juice to Benn and win the Big Ten, as they say. Anyways, Iowa is in trouble at Soldier Field in the season opener. They were fortunate to hold on and beat NIU last year at the IC, this time we are taking them to get our season off to a good start. We did lose Wolfe and Free, but have basically everybody else back and a really good defense. Oh, and the scariest part of Pat White and Steve Slaton, besides the obvious of their general awesomeness and being a year older, is WVU added video legend Noel Devine from Fort Myers, Florida in recruiting. Between those 3, West Virginia doesn't even need to throw the ball. -
I'm glad we didn't trade this man like most of the board wanted to. He's a freaking beast people. Congrats to him on tying the AL record, time to tie and break the MLB one too.

Really fun game to watch. I can't decide what the hell I want us to do about Dye this winter, but damn you beast Josh Fields. Also, 2nd straight 7 inning, 3 run outing for Javy. The importance of that is both outings were against very good teams, and Javy didn't have his best stuff in either outing, yet pitched good games both times. That is a great sign, if he can keep finding ways to get outs when he stuff ISN'T there, he's a solid #3, if not borderline #2 starter.

Final pitching lines on what appeared to be big name starting pitcher night in our organization: Broadway: 8.1 IP, 5 hits, 1 run (earned), 2 walks, 5 k's, 12 GO, 8 AO, 103 pitches, 69 strikes. And he improved to 7-6 with a 3.83 with this outing as he beat 1st place Richmond, 3-1, in 101 degree heat at the bandbox in Charlotte. That's about the best start I've seen him have in our system, all things considered. Wing: 5.2 IP, 4 hits, 1 run (earned), 1 walk, 6 k's, 5 GO, 6 AO, and improved to 6-5 with a 3.14 in the victory. DLS: 5 IP, 4 hits, 1 run (earned), 1 walk, 6 k's, 5 GO, 3 AO, and a win in his A advanced debut. Not bad. Rice: 5 IP, 1 hit, 1 run (earned), 5 walks, 4 k's 5 GO and AO in a win in his first decision since being sent down to Kanny. Poreda: 5 IP, 2 hits, no runs, 2 walks, 7 k's, 7 GO, only 1 AO, and a win in his first decison at GF. He's been dominant down there, he needs to STAY HEALTHY. Lin: 5 IP, 10 hits, 3 runs (earned), 1 walk, 7 k's, 5 GO, 2 AO, and got the win to move to 5-3 with a 3.16 at Bristol. Lin needs to pitch well down the stretch, he's been a bit up and down lately. Noteable hitting performances tonight include: David Cook going 2 for 5 with a 2 run homer as he continues to be on fire since the call up to B-Ham Getz 4 for 5 as he starts to look healthy again at B-Ham Sweeney is back and went 1 for 4 with a run for Charlotte Bourgeois was 2 for 4 with an RBI, run, and stolen base for Charlotte Alex Sanchez 2 for 4 with a run and triple for Charlotte Paulo Orlando was 4 for 4 with 3 runs and a double for W-S Shelby hit a 2 run homer for Kanny Really encouraging night from our big name arms tonight is the story though. And hey, a 7-0 night for the system, everybody from Chicago to Bristol gets a win, wewt.

I'd definitely take a flier if I were Kenny on this one.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:19 AM) Nothing against white people is ever racist. Very little against black people is ever racist either, they just cry slavery and racism anytime something goes wrong. That's not cold either, it's a fact that I've talked about with my african-american friends, and they all agree with me. There is FAR more religious prejudice than racial in this country.

Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)
whitesoxfan101 replied to Linnwood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd be shocked if Pods isn't a Cub at this time next week, and I'll leave it at that. -

witesoxfan's post is a classic of ignorance. First of all, the Bonds 756 has been appraised for 500 k tops, so millions my ass. Second, your post on players and age.....lmao. Do you watch baseball? The reason Bonds OPS+ in his younger years was his total bases were so high due to all of his doubles, stolen bases, speed, and hitters around him on some really good Pirates teams. Doesn't explain his home run explosion in his late 30's and early 40's. But it was a good try.

QUOTE(vandy125 @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 11:42 PM) Good to see Jose looking good!! It's too damn late for the trade deadline, but let's see the 94 MPH gas the rest of the year and dump him this offseason.

Stone rules. We should be going for a sweep tomorrow night, but let's get 2 out of 3 anyways. With that pitching matchup, I like our chances.

What the hell was Ozzie doing, volume 80 billion
whitesoxfan101 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) Still wanna defend Ozzie there? Owens proves he can make the battery of Borowski/Martinez look like the girls from A League of Their Own, but Ozzie hasn't even let him attempt to get into second with nobody out. It deserved it's own, 2nd thread, and it got it. -
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. It was even tied tonight, and Fields is on fire. But no, let's bunt!?!? On the first pitch!?! With Owens at 1st, Borowski on the hill, and V-Mart catching? First of all, Joe Blow had nothing tonight and Fields was raking, so to bunt at all is borderline insanity. But then, you don't even let Owens still 2nd first, and of course, karma plays out and the bunt is botched and of course later, Owens steals 2nd AND 3rd without a throw. I hope we win tonight, but this should have already been over with us winning, just like last nights game should have went extras. Amazing Ozzie, and sorry but back to back nights deserve back to back threads, and I'd have about gone crazy if we were still in the race with this ignorance from #13. (Note: Title of thread was volume 80 billion and 1 btw. )

I wish we'd at some point let most everybody pitch in Charlotte simply since Birmingham is such a pitchers haven, nothing like The Cell, and Charlotte is much more like The Cell in regards to being brutal on pitchers.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) booty That's the same garbage that guys like wack-ass A-Rod and Gary Sheffield requested. Yep, I put together a compilation of instrumentals from 1982-1986, and that's the first track on the disc. Mack ain't all there, but he has his moments. Kinda like you, bro. HA just as I posted that, I remembered the Ice Cube song it lists for Rob uses the beat from "The Message". But they never played the lyric part when Rob batted, so it could be either actually. And yeah, I'm working on walking the fine line between genius and insanity. I got a lot of work to do, to say the least. Although to be fair, it lists "this is why i'm cold" as another of his songs listed on wiki, which could explain why "this is why i'm hot" isn't there. But "This is why i'm cold" really is bad, lol.
-
HA Mackowiak's list is freaking awesome and does give away his roots, and it doesn't even include his most prominent AB song from this year "This Is Why I'm Hot" by Mims which is pretty good and a show of personal confidence, or last years song, which brings me to my next point. Mack's AB song last year, which was the legendary Grandmaster Flash jam "The Message", is my all time favorite personalized song for any athlete ever. That was OUTSTANDING that he had the balls to pull it out as his AB song in 2006, and it's a great song too. But all his songs listed there are great too. Then again, now as I think about it, "Check Yo Self" by Ice Cube had the same beat as The Message, but they never got to the lyrics when Rob came up, so it could be either, and that explains the wikipedia reference to the Ice Cube jam only. But now I'm thinking too hard.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 03:24 PM) Lots of folks suspect Pujols of being assisted as it is. If ARod stays this productive for the next 6 years people will absolutely cry foul. I wouldn't bet on it, unless he goes from a 30 homer or so a year guy to hitting 49, than 73, than 40 a year while walking 200 times a year and having OPS's in the 1.200 or so range starting at age 37 and into his 40's, all the while having a moutain of evidence connecting him to a state of the art steroid factory and having his shoe size go up by 3 and head size by 1 and a half. To clarify, I mean that about A-Rod. I'm very suspecious of Pujols on the other hand, and there is reason to be.
