Official Recruiting Thread II
whitesoxfan101 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Boy I would hope that is a sign that Jamar is gone. I'd be more than happy to eat crow on that subject, much better than the option of having a felon on the Illini (even though Bruce WANTS him back, so if Jamar is gone, the credit will go to Ron Guenther, who would for once have done something right). -
QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Both -assuming one of the outfield starters will be Owens or Sweeney. I would assume if you get both, Fields is in LF and Crede at 3B.
-
Poreda has been too good so far for me to dread this. If Poreda can stay healthy (yes, a big if), I can see why we took him. A power sinker at 95 MPH from a 6'5 lefty doesn't grow on trees. Here's to Poreda continuing to make a lot of us look stupid.
-
Yeah if I had to pick, I keep JD and try and figure out a way to have whoever your leadoff hitter is going to be playing CF if it comes down to that choice.
-
If we could somehow keep Dye, and get Greene and Rowand, that puts us back into contention with our pitching IMO. Also, I'd like to see Bourgeois get a shot to make the team as a bench player as well. The only problem with my idea (which would move Fields to LF, put Crede at 3B, Greene at SS, Rowand in CF, Dye in RF, Kong at 1B, Thome at DH, Richar at 2B, A.J. at C) is you don't really have a leadoff man though, so who knows. As for the pitching.....trade Contreras, and make the #5 spot an open competition again IMO, whoever is ready. That bullpen is kinda a crapshoot, as always. Since we don't keep Dye AND sign Crash though, keep Dye and figure out a way to get/have a leadoff hitter to play CF.

This question might just come to fruition, and the 2008 White Sox thread made me think of this. If we're choosing between keeping Jermaine and bring back Rowand, and only have the one money to do 1, what do you do?

Michael Vick Accepts Plea Deal Per ESPN
whitesoxfan101 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
All of his co-defendants have taken pleas now. Vick has until Friday to plea or else he'll get even more charges filed against him as well. If he doesn't plea by Friday, he's a complete fool. Expect this to be over (at least the legal part of it) by the end of the week. -

Rowand wouldn't blow smoke guys, so I'd trust him. I'm not sure what he knows about Miller, but apparently Suggs to UW is out of the question because Washington doesn't have a scholly for him. If that's true, I think Illinois has Suggs because Mizzou isn't going to swoop in and get him. I just hope Illinois gets Suggs, he's been an Illini lean for almost a year now and he's a really good player. If they get Suggs and Miller, I owe Bruce Weber a big time apology, but we'll see. And CWSGUY, it's down to Marquette and UNC for Shumpert apparently. Shumpert is loving the idea of playing at somewhere like UNC, but he seems to favor Marquette right now since Crean was one of the very first high major coaches to go after him. You guys have a pretty good shot. -
I think the players hate doing a team golf thing like a couple weeks ago a lot more than they do singing for kids. Don't make excuses for A.J. here by saying a lot of players feel that way, I tend to agree with the "this quote doesn't surprise me" group. And as for Ozzie.....lol, as delusional as usual.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 01:27 AM) I think the crowd will be about 75% Iowa fans fwiw. I doubt it. They'll have about a 60/40 edge though. There were 25 thousand NIU fans my freshman year when we were at Northwestern, had them greatly outnumbered at their own place, but people seem to underestimate the amount of NIU fans there are so to each his own. Although I am sure the Iowa fans will be coming from all over Wrigleyville in their Cub hats, Cub fans and Iowa fans really do go hand in hand often times, and I'll just leave it at they are about similar in intelligence usually. -
Rove, like all of Bush's cronies, is a pretty lousy individual and supreme liar and nobody can take that away from the administration, as they are worse than even the usual politicians in that regard. HOWEVER, the man got a complete idiot into the highest office in the land not once, but TWICE, so to say Karl Rove is anything short of brilliant in that regard would be inaccurate.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 03:55 PM) So this entire time, you've been b****ing because he could possibly make this same mistake next year, when we could possibly be in the hunt for the playoffs? Yet, you know right now, any decision or move he makes means absolutely nothing. How dumb do you think Ozzie is? Dumb enough to play Mackowiak in CF time and time again last year when we WERE in a race, a move which cost us a few wins in itself. He's not making these dumb moves because we're out of the race, he did the same s*** last year when we were in a race.

590 The Fan - OF Rick Ankiel Gets The Call
whitesoxfan101 replied to CardsJimEdmonds15's topic in The Diamond Club
Ankiel appears done for the day, as he made the last out of the 7th and it's 10-2 Cardinals. He went 1 for 4 with a double, run scored, and drew a walk. Off day by his standards lately, but the Cards looking good and he still had a nice game. -
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) Can you elaborate on this more? I think we'll be good enough to have a shot at making the playoffs next year, thus at this time next year, the games will obviously mean a lot more if I'm right. And a stupid move or two by Ozzie right now means nothing, but if your in a race where a game or two might decide who goes to October like I think we will be in 2008, these silly mistakes could be fatal. That's all.

White Sox vs. Mariners, 8/12/07 (L)
whitesoxfan101 replied to South Side Fireworks Man's topic in 2007 Season in Review
Congrats to Bobby, but that was maybe the most pathetic game we've had all year outside of #45. Yikes. -
CONGRATS to Bobby. I'm just glad he did it today, you know if he had tried to tie this in Oakland something weird would happen like somebody ghost riding onto the field, causing an infield single, and costing Bobby the record. Let's just hope he gets the leadoff man next time he's out there and can be all alone in the record books.
-
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) At this point Ozzie shouldn't get any blame or praise for his actions. This season is KW's fault, but I'm sorry, it's hard to not get pissed at some of his moves earlier this week. Yeah these games mean little, but these moves are things that bother me when you consider we damn well could be right in the middle of the race this time next year. That's all.
-
Ok Ozzie fans, want us to stop bashing? Well we will when Ozzie does stuff as brilliant as today. First of all, obviously I think just about everybody here would agree Ozzie's best quality is the way he handles the pen, but today was the best example yet. We're down 6-0 in the 9th, so Seattle isn't too desperate AND has the bottom 3 of their order up, who only had 1 of their 9 hits. Plus, we're heading on the road for 4 games after today and Bobby had a day off yesterday. So to Ozzie, WELL DONE. He gets Bobby in there in a GREAT situation to be successful, and Bobby gets it done, although it wasn't obviously all that easy. Hopefully Tuesday night, Bobby retires the leadoff man in the 9th to break that tie he's in right now for the all time record, and gets a 1-2-3 save to start a rare good series in Oakland.

White Sox vs. Mariners, 8/12/07 (L)
whitesoxfan101 replied to South Side Fireworks Man's topic in 2007 Season in Review
We better not lose a game and a series to freaking Jeff Weaver. Get the bats ready, boys. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) For as much as Gavin not deserving the fifth spot, either does Haeger. And none of our 3 guys at the front of the line in the minors (Gio, Egbert, Broadway) are ready IMO. In fact, the only guy you could even make a case for being ready right now is Eggy, so it's an interesting situation.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 09:53 AM) or because the value of the potential two draft picks was better than anything we would have gotten for dye No chance in hell, unless you want to assume that we hit it big on both picks, which the odds of are slim since very few teams ever do that (although we may have in 2004 with Fields in the 1st and Gio as a sandwich).
-
It just kinda clicked in my brain that both teams hit a grand slam tonight, that doesn't happen too often, especially in a not extraordinarily high scoring 7-6 game (although I think it might have just last night in that 16-10 Oakland game at Detroit, but still).
-
He's going to have one of his classic robotic rounds similar to today's and win tomorrow I'm sure. Probably like 15 pars, a bogey, and 2 birdies to win by 3 or 4 shots, typical Sunday Tiger in his red Nike shirt. He's amazing.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 12:06 AM) Dammit Gavin, come on... We really could use this kid to grow up faster. He just doesn't have that "it" it seems like. At least we got Gio back out of the deal and dumped Freddy and his destroyed shoulder.
-
Mabee needs to get sent to Kanny ASAP, he's thrown 13 scoreless now at GF with a GO/AO of 11.50 and .111 average against him. Also, what the hell got into David Cook? He was having a nice year at W-S, but the man is on fire. He's 26 which is a damn shame though, but it's hard to ignore his power and ability to draw walks, 2 things this system is lacking right now badly. I'd hope and assume Cook starts at Charlotte next year and we see how it goes. Also, McCulloch was good for B-Ham (6 IP, 4 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, 3 k's 8/6 GO/AO, win) and Cook's official game was this: home run, hit by pitch, single, walk, walk, outfield assist on defense. Hey, he is 2 years younger than Ankiel and doesn't have the traumatic past of pitching disaster...Also, Sisco pitching well against a 1st place team but lost, and Richard pitched well but went against a guy that almost threw a perfect game tonight, so yeah he lost too. Ely got the crap kicked outta him.
