  1. lefties are hitting .212 against Logan this year with 14 hits and 15 k's in 18 innings and only 1 home run. Myers did have a 2.66 ERA in 41 innings for NY yes, but he's 38 and the only reason this is happening is he's from around here. Also, lefties hit .312 against Myers in 18 innings and righties hit .182 in 22 innings, and lefties hit him better last year too. This singing is almost as confusing as those numbers, we already have our LOOGY in Boone (although he's not used right by Ozzie) and Myers is old and not even getting lefties out anymore. What we need is the true lefty that gets everybody out, and with the way Matt Thornton has looked this season, we don't have him yet.
  2. This division isn't as good as people think. We won't make the playoffs next year IMO, but this divisions greatness is a myth that will be exposed in 2008.
  3. If this leads to Dye as the DH and trading Thome to a contender needing a bat/DH for something pretty this offseason like I have a gut feeling it might, people will like this a lot more IMHO.
  4. Heath is a pretty simple guy. Last year, he walked very few and was great, his last dozen or so starts he's walked very few and been great, but in between that he walked a ton of guys and was horrid. It's weird to say this about a lefty that throws about 86 tops, but he simply doesn't get hit as long as he throws strikes. Still a 4A pitcher, but he needs to always throw strikes so we can get something for him in a trade someday. And good to see Shirek in the fold officially btw. Also, the hot streak John Shelby is on right now is amazing, has the average up to .301 now with the slugging near .500 and OPS of .850, to go along with 18 steals. Still wish he walked just a bit more, but John might need to start next year at W-S, he seems to have outgrown Kanny and his power/speed combo is intriguing. And I'm starting to like Gartrell more and more by the day, he's doing well since the promotion.
  5. No chance in hell, but Paulie is still a wonderful player and will set a 2nd place standard that will be tough to beat.
  6. Well, maybe a dead last finish and a top 5 pick in the draft will get SOMEBODY'S attention. I want no false hope for next year, none. It is awfully embarassing though, so it sucks.

    i am drunk

All headaches, drunk induced or not, can be fixed by 3 advil, drinking a ton of orange juice, and chicken tenders/nuggets. And no, don't ask me why that works, just do it because it does. And I have to agree with most of Heads posts last night, except I don't endorse the spelling and to say socks are better than bare foot on carpet is asinine. Great thread still though.
  8. I think the average will go up, but I don't expect the isodisipline to do so. That's why I say he's a lot like Brandon Phillips of the Reds as a hitter, but hey if he's going to hit .270 and go 30/30 while playing solid defense in CF, you can live with not walking.
  9. I think I trust Jenks, Logan, MacDougal, even Wassermann and Bukvich more than Thornton right now. Matt has only 1 pitch, and people have figured it out. He's like a lefty David Aardsma it seems like, only it took them way longer to figure out Matt since he's a lefty. And Masset, Aardsma, and Sisco showed me enough to not trust them this year. Sisco and Masset are starters and starters only it seems like, and Aardsma has only 1 pitch.
  10. Derek threw a gem last night for W-S, a 2 hit complete game shutout at Salem, with 2 walks and 7 k's. He's now 11-5 with a 4.00 ERA this year, and a solid 2.00 GO/AO. 141.2 IP, 146 hits, only 8 homers, 48 walks, 107 k's, .271 average against. Hopefully he starts out at Birmingham next year with Egbert and/or Gio in Charlotte.
  11. I'd like to see us trade pitching to get something in CF and then try and find a cheap, average player type option at SS who will play defense. We can afford to trade pitching for a CF and be fine there, and then at SS we kinda gotta get lucky I think.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) IT is more that they are not going to play him at LF right now because they don't know whether Crede can play, plus they are going to want as much leverage as they can. Plus, moving to left isn't going to be that difficult. A full spring training, plus some off-season drills and he'll be serviceable in little time (He's a good enough athlete). However, if Fields makes defensive strides as the remainder of the season progresses they could decide they are better off going after a FA outfielder (or trading for one). The problem is if they do that than they really have two pickups left because I don't think they have any other ML starting outfielders on the current roster (that is if Fields is at 3rd). If you stick with Crede, than all you got to do is find a CFer (and I realize that isn't easy) and than swap someone at SS for Uribe. The more I see it the more I see the pen staying pretty much the same (give or take an in-house swap) with Contreras probably on his way out (and possibly Garland). ^^^^^^^^ That about sums it up right there.
  13. The only reason anybody even brings up this trade is the fact we don't have a CF. The quality of Javy as a starting pitcher and the money we have him locked up for >>>> Chris Young, and it's not even close. Young has Brandon Phillips written all over him in terms of at the plate (high slugging, steal bases, mediocre batting average, abominable on base) and hey, that's not bad, but it's not nearly as good as most here think it is either.
  14. DH: Thome 1B: Konerko 2B: Richar SS: ? 3B: Crede playing for a contract LF: Fields CF: ? RF: Dye That doesn't make my eyes bleed at least, but we still have 2 glaring holes we need to figure something out about. Better than I thought we'd be at this point looking towards 2008 though, I like our pitching still. I don't mind this extension either, 2 years for JD at 11 million is worth it if he can be a 30 homer guy the next 2 years and hit .270, and I think he can. And what Rowand said about eating his words about not trading Dye, I echo those sentiments.
  15. Cardinals only 2 behind the blue losers and 3.5 behind the chokers 90 miles north. The World Champs are going to be back in the playoffs, so be ready. On a side note, I love the Reds. They ALWAYS screw the Cubs over late in the year, especially when they are in a race (SEE: 2004). Get the sweep done tomorrow Cincinnati.
  16. Scott Suggs to Washington is official, Bruce Weber strikes again!! I can't tell you how bad a job he had to do to lose Suggs, this team is going to have Northwestern-esque talent within a couple years now. Amazing.
  17. Good God. First of all, what a typical bull s*** ending to a loss at Oakland, figures. And DAMN I didn't see it live, but that Fields homer easily cleared that all 388 sign out there, another 415 foot or so home run. He doesn't get cheated on his bombs at all. Great job once again by the bullpen too, they are really showing some encouraging signs for 2008.
  18. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 07:11 PM) How the hell does Carlos Zambrano have issues with the Chicago heat? Dude's from Venezuela. And it wasn't even remotely hot today, and I live way out in the western burbs, so I bet it was nice by the lake.
  19. All I can say to the Brewers and Cubs is to beware, because that object with red feathers in the rear-view mirror is closer than it appears, and getting closer by the day. I have a sneaking suspecion those 2 clubs will regret letting the defending champs hang around.
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 04:17 PM) I heard a quote by his attny (sic) "this offer does not change the way we plan to defend the case..." So if he's true to his word, then they fight. And I do believe he is that stupid. He's a cocky sports "superstar". They are invincible don't ya know. Oh trust me I know that HE is that dumb, I just don't think his attorney(s) are that dumb. His attorney is probably talking tough to try and get a bit more leverage in the plea deal. It's not like he can rely on the the jury he'll get either, this isn't happening in Atlanta and the part of Virginia where the jury pool would come from is very white.
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) That's the same thing as reported this morning, correct? I hope he doesn't deal and tries to fight it. I'm looking forward to seeing him cry when he's told he'll be spending some significant time behind bars. I have no idea if that is what was reported this morning, I just know those are Vick's choices. And I can't put into words how dumb he'd have to be to not plea, he will literally save himself years of jail time by pleaing out.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) Same thing where he has until Friday to make up his mind or is this something new? He has until Friday no matter what, because if he doesn't plea by then all accounts indicate a superseding indictment will be filed and he'll face at least 2 more federal dogfighting charges and be screwed even worse than he is now.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2972161 looks like they're talking to the Feds now If he were a regular person, Vick would have taken the plea already. The only reason he hasn't taken the plea is he figures if he does, he never plays in the NFL again. Problem is, he gets 6 months to a year by taking the plea, but if he doesn't and is found guilty (which he would be, everybody else plead to testify against him), he gets at least 3 years in all likelihood and wouldn't be able to play when he gets out anyways. To me, it's a no brainer for him to plea out, but either way I don't see him playing in the NFL ever again.
  24. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 01:11 PM) If he gets out of jail time I'll pitch a fit. No chance. If he's lucky, he'll get a good plea and 6 months. And with the reputation of this judge, I don't think he's going to get that good a deal.
  25. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) Could it be CJ converting to football opening a spot? Not with the lack of an impression he's left on Zook this summer IMO. Plus, the timing doesn't make sense since the CJ to football stuff has been known for months. I just think a decision was made on Jamar, and that timing makes more sense with school starting up again as the decision was due to be made before classes all started up again. In fact, I bet the decision was already made and just hasn't been announced.
